Congratulations, NX. You saw what so many complacent Xbox fans refused to see, which is why Xbox continued down this disastrous path and now here we are.
Spot on with the dark knight trilogy too. Begins was always my favourite and a proper Batman film. We won’t talk about Rises. Not sure I’d want to go full camp going forward, but a lighter action adventure would be fun. The emo The Batman was absolutely awful and agree I’m fed up with it
I'm a massive fan of Phantom Menace, and the 2 afterwards, the pod racing scenes remains one of the most incredible film sequences I have ever laid eyes on, to see it in 4K with a full-fat surround set-up on my Pioneer Kuro Plasma is still jaw dropping.
So proud that a Brit is making such great content 👌🏽🇬🇧 Long time supporter. Love your insights and coming from a professional services background means I can appreciate your business commentary too. I can imagine you're very highly regarded in your place of work too. Excited to see where your channel goes mate. PS. Commodore 64 was our first gaming machine hehe loved Flimbo's Quest, Klax, Bubble Bobble, Fiendish Freddy lol the nostalgia. Then moved onto the Amiga 1200 and remember Desert Strike and Theme Park World, I sunk so many hours into that lol.
Thank you very much Sunny, means a great deal and I am always happy to see like minded, nostalgic peeps like yourself to those great times. The C64 was just amazing, from a good and easy basic, more advanced assembly and the games on it such as Impossible mission, Ghouls n ghosts, Exploding Fist, Last Ninja and all those AWESOME soundtracks from Rob Hubbard, Ben Dalglish, Tim Folin, Chris Hulsbeck and more. But the Amiga was, somehow, even better I loved that computer, what it could do and how much it taught me with assembly, parallel coding, hardware acceleration, sampling, video digitising and really my career as a whole came from these 2 machines. Cheers for the comment and the sub, means a great deal.
@@NXGamer sounds awesome, I'll RUclips those games. I'm excited for your next upload (just saw it dropped!), it has been a very busy couple of weeks in gaming and keen to get your insights and thoughts.
Man I so much wish that kingdom come deliverance 2 was a mafia remake!!! I think that studio is what became the kingdom come guys, mafia 1 remains my favourite mafia game in the series by far and oh wow I wish it looked as good as that kingdom come 2 trailer ❤
I'm a little behind on your videos, so disregard this if you've already covered this, but if not, I was curious about Xbox (and even Sony to a lesser extent) selling their games on other platforms. Clearly, if a game is exclusive to your own console, it increases the incentive to buy the console. While the console itself doesn't usually make these companies a ton of profit, what it does do is bring people into the ecosystem. These companies don't make the most of their money on their own games. They make the most of their money on the commission/licensing fees from third party games sold on their platform, including their DLC, as well as accessories. All of this money is going to total a much higher amount than their own first party game sales. So while selling on another platform means you increase the first party game sales, it means you have less people buying your box, which means you decrease the largest revenue source. It seems to me that the only way this works out to profit is if the vast majority of people you're selling to on PC or other platforms would NEVER buy your console, which seems incredibly unlikely to me. More realistically, it seems this would result in a drop in console sales, which would result in a drop to the largest revenue sources MS and Sony make. So I don't understand the math here. It doesn't seem worth it to increase first party game sales if you drop your main revenue sources by a larger amount (therefore, net loss), and make your boxes seem less necessary. Not to mention not allowing developers to fully focus their optimization on one specific hardware configuration.
You are right about the deconstruction craze. It's absolutely boring. In part because it's done by people that don't understand human beings at all. And it's done to death. I think, you're also right about Batman. I like the darker Batman films, animated shows and films, but a more light-hearted one would be a breath of fresh air. But there's a big problem with this. Current day Hollywood is mostly incapable of humour or light-heartedness. Comedy is mostly dead, and the reason is the same as above. Writers who don't understand normal people and only think in terms of identity checkboxes and whatnot, can't write anything good. The bankruptcy of Commodore was a shame. I started with a C64. Had an Amiga 500 and 4000, even a CD32. Fun times. You're right about the foundational things you learned with these machines. I, for one, like your ramblings.🙂Always interesting, you often bring a unique perspective on things.
19:20 I was part of a company, not game related, that was bought by Microsoft and now 5 years later almost all the tech they bought us for has been shelved!! I knew it would happen when they bought us, because they do it all the time. So not surprised they've started gutting the game studios they bought.
My attitude towards Gamepass has always been “take advantage of it while you can”. With the 1:1 Xbox Live conversion deals on top of other discounts it’s been a steal at times. It’s not the responsibility of the individual consumer how Microsoft (mis)manages it, or the sustainability of the model. The service is fairly no strings attached, and co-exists organically next to free Epic games and deep discounts on Steam, as well as used physical on consoles. The first party output has been severely lacking since 9th gen started but the mix of third party, AA, back compat entries and indies in addition to the decent first party stuff have been pretty good for my money. I still buy a lot of games for all kinds of systems old and new. I don’t think the average consumer go all inn on Gamepass like they do with Netflix and Spotify; it’s more supplemental to your normal purchasing routines. Now after the shutdown of the studios I certainly don’t feel like over-relying on the sub or the Xbox brand in general. I’d agree with the naysayers that the future of this post-ABK behemoth is looking rather grim.
Another great video. Spot on about Microsoft. It does look like the grown ups thete have looked at nearly $80 billion worth of acquisitions and questioned the returns on that with a 12 quid a month subscription. Yet when it was argued at the time this wasn't good for gaming a lot of people just cheered it on. Crazy. Developers like Ninja Theory must be terrified now after these closures. If you don't land a mega hit then you could be gone.
And I also wanted to say, with what you said about Phantom Menace and how media/writing has declined in quality, Id love to hear you tackle that topic specifically. I feel like the average game, tv show, or film is just not even close to the quality of something from 20-30 years ago.People usually attribute it in games to being caused by “wokeness”, but nothing is as simple as that and I bet you’d have an interesting answer.
I don't agree with the Batman VR take. First, it's absolutely OK to have a CGI trailer, to get the conversation going, when the gameplay trailer is less than a month away ( June 7th ). You seem so pissed you even missed that piece at the end. Second, if you care about VR, which I know you care, then you must recognize this is pushing adoptation. People are very slow to catch up, and this is EXACTLY the kind of stuff that needs to be done, to convince folks VR's really good for you! What else moves forward a platform than big impact software? If the problem is the exclusivity, then a quick reminder: VR is the Quest right now, every other platform is DEAD. This game is in the works for 4 years now, the studio owned by Meta, they have every right to be exclusive. This game wouldn't exist AT ALL without them, so don't think anybody lost anything, it's the opposite! This game will be available for anyone, the Quest3 is CHEAP, and by far the best value-for-money console/entertainment system. Also, you really pass judgement just from the concept, without seeing anything? It cannot be better than Arkham? Why not? The possibility is there, imagine someone said to Rocksteady before Asylum, they cannot make a better game than XY. Ridiculous. And Batman without the noir darkness? Are you really a fan? Noir is Batman's key characteristic, I cannot believe my ears! The 60s show was fun, sure, but in my opinion such spinoffs only had a place if we were drowning with mainline Batman titles. I think that you, a VR enthusiast, wouldn't touch it is very petty and sad. I hope this is just the heat of the moment, and you'll reconsider, this just makes no sense.
22:50 They closed more studios in the last 12 months than released 1st party games. Xbox fans refuse to hold Phil Spencer responsible. The Stockholm Syndrome is real!!
Nxgamer lfg!!! The whining on Helldivers 2 was too much I get it but wow way too aggressive... It's literally just a PSN account, the double standard against Sony on that is insane, and arrowhead knew Sony wanted that from the start too
You're missing the point. Some countries doesn't have PSN. And some countries you need a PS4 or PS5 to make an account. So you gotta shell out money on a Playstation first, before you can actually use your account on PC. If they didn't reverse this, around 177 countries would have lost access to Helldivers 2. They even removed it from Steam in those unsupported countries. The back-lash was justified.
@@DeadPhoenix86DP Yes, If the exact same situation happened with any other company the exact same backlash would've happened. It takes a silly fanboy's mind to think it wouldn't.
Please understand PSN isn't available in developing countries and some in the Caribbean. Alot of neighboring EU countries don't officially have PSN. You're forcing people to make an account for a service they can't access if they tried they get banned for violating TOS. Other launchers at least generalize your area and allow you to still make an account while restricting features. If what Sony did went through you literally couldn't buy the game on Steam because of that mandatory requirement. Which is bad because Steam itself doesn't have such strict restrictions in place.
You are missing my point and the issue, this is, as I said in the video, about the countries that purchased the game on PC in good faith with a Steam account NOW requiring a PSN account they cannot get in their country to play the game they own. This is a legal and consumer nightmare and should have never even been raised without going through an internal review where it would have been rejected.
To add to this, in some countries you need to buy a console to even make an account. If You're already struggling and have low income you'd be paying 460 for one game.
“…and that is failure and failure begins with an ‘X’, it seems.” Blunt but true, Michael. And you’re right, their brand cachet is virtually all gone, they’ve squandered it with repeated unforced errors.
Microsoft should've used the 100 billion to subsidize their premium console, selling it for 99$. Would have been sufficient for 250 million boxes and PlayStation would have lost the war.
Congratulations, NX. You saw what so many complacent Xbox fans refused to see, which is why Xbox continued down this disastrous path and now here we are.
You were right about Phil Spencer being the worst thing to happen to gaming.

I do like my Analogue NT Mini for playing (most) of my NES games.
My yardstick for if a movie was good/great or not is if I can remember it to any degree and The Dark Knight Rises fails: completely forgettable.
Any other game it would have been just a footnote on chip wrapping but removing HD2 was like locking up the only crack dealer in town
