I agree it isn't quite needed but it's good if console gamers want a higher end console towards the 2nd half of a console life cycle (also GTA 6 will be amazing on it). PS5 is incredibly capable, but when/if games are built from the ground up, more and more will be 30 fps. PS5 Pro should hopefully remedy that.
Mike, you said you don't see a point PS5 Pro while naming all those advantages. I mean.. it's going to be great. There's no other word for it.. Some of the consoles games run and look like crap and this is going to solve these issues, and beyond that it's going to bring some sort of ML image reconstruction and better RT. What is wrong with that? :D Just the fact that you have aaaall these sub 60 1080p-ish games that look like mud. Well, not anymore. At least that's how I see it. 🤷 While paving the road to smoother transition to PS6.
I agree 100%. Even the folks at Digital Foundry said the same thing and later recanted the statement and are now in support of it. Outside of that, great video
And also better visuals in PSVR2. Because the screens are far better than what you typically see in a PSVR2 game (look in the rear mirror in GT7 for example, the cars are crystal clear. But in front of you, at same distance "small" cars are not. Nothing to do with the headset)💟🌌☮️
I think its a split in mentality between people who simply wants a new generation of games, and people who want to push high visuals. When people say PS5 Pro is unecessary, it really just means its not needed to develop next gen games. Because generational leaps has less to do with graphics and more to do with gameplay. The complete removal of loading screens would be one such example of a generational leap in games, which is one of the things Sony aimed to do with the PS5 but has yet to properly achieve. Why introduce a PS5 Pro when the basics have not yet been fulfilled?
@9641 cuz the basic console is not capable of pushing visuals aswell as keeping a good looking 60fps mode, with games dropping to a staggering 720p. Ps5 pro enables much better image quality in performance modes.
But Xbox hasn't gone 'full Sega'... so the whole point is moot. It blows my mind how so many people have been doom-mongering on Xbox for two decades now.

The game isn't problem free of course, but it is far from a cyberpunk situation.
One thing I don’t understand, why so many folks say PS5 pro won’t do anything… I have never in all my years since Atari 2600 have I heard there is no need for a hardware upgrade. Will it load faster? Will the frames be more stable? Will it be an overall better experience? Yes to any or all of those, it’s a worthy machine.

Welcome back Michael. Miss you over at NeoGAF. As someone who has transitioned to PC from PS5- I love the idea of new hardware every 3 years or so. I'm very curious to see what happens with the AI cores.
What I don't get about a lot of this Sony/MS multiplatform discussion, nobody seems to acknowledge that the VAST majority of money those companies make is actually from the commissions they get from selling third party games on their own console. Anything they do to make their console look less necessary will reduce that, by a larger degree than any additional sales they'd make on the other platforms. Especially long term. Most of the people buying on PC or other consoles would be the people who would have otherwise bought your console if they had to in order to play the game. That means that user dropping your console is a net loss, not a gain. Even if they only bought your console for the first party stuff, you're still losing about $20 per game sale on them. The ONLY people that you make a profit from on these sales are people who would have absolutely NEVER bought your console. These sales are going to be such a tiny percentage of the multiplatform sales you make. It just doesn't make any financial sense. The way to grow a business for Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo isn't about increasing the total number of sales of THEIR games, it's by increasing the total number of sales of third party games on their platforms.
I, for one, like the new nVidia interface better. It's much more responsive and a bit better organized, the overlay is also better. But the speed was my only real gripe with the old interface. I would like to hear your take on RTX HDR, the nVidia version of AutoHDR. To me, it seems to be a bit better, but maybe it's specific to my monitor.

Another smashing database. It is refreshing to see another industry veteran breaking down what was actually said during MS’s press event. Couldn’t agree more. It is also quite telling that they felt they had to ensure the audience they are staying in the HW business. I agree that it was probably a needed message at this point, but beginning to hype the leap of your next generation, when the old one is barely three years old seemed downright desperate. And the line “biggest leap between generations ever” made me chuckle at the level of marketing speak going on.

Hi NXG ...I respect and love your insightful videos, but I have to disagree about the PS5 Pro not being necessary. You are missing a fundamental point about game consoles. The money is made off the games, not the console. Game sales drop over time as gamers start to show apathy, so a new console at a regular cadence rejuvenates the gamers to buy games again. The traditional 5 year gen cycle worked well to rebuild enthusiasm again, but as console grew more complex to make, gens grew longer, and it became clear a mid gen upgrade was required. The PS4 gen was designed to last 6 years which is way too long to stay on locked hardware. A mid gen upgrade at year 3 solved the problem and game sales got the required boost. The PS5 gen is designed to last 8 years which would dry up game sales completely, so another mid gen upgrade at year 4 is required to boost enthusiasm for buying games. That is the purpose of the PS5 Pro. Enhanced hardware to excite gamers and persuade them buy new games. The hype has a trickle down effect, so even if gamers do not upgrade, they see the new games running advanced tech on the PS5 Pro and feel the need to get in on the action with their base PS5. It just motivates game sales. Content is king.
I get that and agree, my point is from a cost vs return perspective ROI, may not be the best use of funds and right now pc GPU is not a big threat of moving forward. In addition it can create a mix of developers pushing hard OR just using the pro to say play that version. I am still looking forward to it and testing but I try to see all sides.
24:00 why do you think Indiana Jones is going to be massive? As an IP no one under the age of 35 lived through that golden age of Indy. And looking at the game it doesn't seem like its living up to the ideal fantasy of what an indiana jones video game would be for many of us. That would be Uncharted of course.
I think the games that have come out in the past few years, so long as this stays true to a FPS, action focused Indy game the market will enjoy that. I just hope it is not a mixed and disjointed affair deviating too far from the tropes and action it needs and shows in the trailer.
Helldivers 2 server issues have been solved and are old news by now. The main issue right now is this bizarre south-korean rootkit anti-cheat system they rely on that almost nobody uses and that has an extremely bad reputation.
PCVR lost 99% of HMDs and only have Quest left really so PCVR isn’t big. Also there’s not a feature match between the PSVR2 and the Quest. I kind of think PCVR not selling well makes PCVR games that aren’t Quest ports unlikely.
Your choice of display has never been more relevant in determining that your games look and play their best on your PS5, and FFVII Rebirth is no different. A fully HDMI 2.1 compliant Monitor or TV opens up a lot of extra game and display options to you. Make sure all the desired options are active in the PS5 system menus, and then check that you can turn these on and off inside the in-game menus. Of course you do need to test this functionality is active with a game title that you know makes use of these advanced features.
Interesting content, but there's a lot of technical rambling which could be conveyed better in a way it makes the jargon easier to understand. Please be more succinct.
5:00 if those are the PS5 Pro specs, it seems not as much as a leap from PS4 to PS4 Pro. I really hope it's bumped up higher. I would be willing to pay more if it's going to cost more to make.
Ignoring the PS5 pro, why is the series x not faster than it currently is? I keep thinking there is something wrong with the design or maybe its the virtualisation tech that microsoft are using which is causing too much overheads? GPU but limited to 192 bit after 10 GB has been used the issue?
Thats a good question My guess is they use a cut down (but not so different) version of Windows on Xbox, wich ends up being heavier than the bare bones OS on PS5. But again thats a guess
Not what I said, I said that the PS5 Pro DOES NOT make sense as the teams and development around the PS5 has not been maxed out yet. New hardware is really a commercial decision ignoring many factors of the logistics. Regards Game Pass, it ONLY makes sense if the games are cheap to make or old, so has a high margin on low cost. OR by doing what MS are now, subsidising the model with full cost, 3rd party games elsewhere.
lol you’re saying the ff7 image quality issues are overblown because it’s ps exclusive, that’s all. You constantly (and sometimes aren’t even correct) crap on Xbox and bend over for Sony
how can it be overblown when it looks blurrier than a switch game. Its a ps5 exclusive title made for one plattform. They should have really made sure the 60fps mode looked good.
"PS5 Pro is not needed because devs still have to cater to PS5", LOL. A 4090 isn't needed because devs have to cater to a 3080. Somehow, no one has a problem with tiered PC specs. Folks also didn't have a problem when Xbox had a pro console last-gen either. Now, however, it doesn't make sense because reasons. Playing games at higher resolution and/or framerates doesn't make sense. The tech media surely cannot get dumber than this. I'm disappointed that you're parroting this bs. Edit: Hi-Fi Rush on Switch? Where?

i don't think a console targeting release at the end of 2024 4 years after the PS5 will still use the came crap ZEN 2 cpu from 2019.ZEN 2 already is bottlenecked hard by all the latest gaming titles.See videos on youtube zen 2 vs latest zen 4 or intel cpus and the gap is already huge.I don't think Mark Cerny will make the same mistake as the PS4 PRO which had a gpu 2x times powerful as the PS4 but that gpu was bottlenecked by the crappy Jaguar Cpu the pro used!If PS5 PRO aims for 60 or 120 fps gaming the gpu alone isn't enough it will need at least a ZEN4C cpu to feed a gpu with 60CU at 2,4 ghz.See pc benchmarks and you can see that if you pair a 4090 or 4080 with a cpu 4 or 5 year old the fps difference vs a RYZEN with 3d cache or an intel 13 gen and above is over 50% even in high resolutions.

Yes ps5 pro if it helps in psvr2 front then I'm all for it.
Psvr2 is extremely niche
What PSVR2 needs is more games, not more power from the console
@@Azmodaeus49 Vr in general in niche but the power cones from the console itself so yeah I'm all for it
You can use pcvr2 on PC aswell.
@@dusermiginte4647 eventually yes I heard
Keep up the retro stuff…❤️👍❤️
Interesting content, but there's a lot of technical rambling which could be conveyed better in a way it makes the jargon easier to understand. Please be more succinct.
Thanks for the feedback, can you be more specific on your points though?
5:00 if those are the PS5 Pro specs, it seems not as much as a leap from PS4 to PS4 Pro. I really hope it's bumped up higher. I would be willing to pay more if it's going to cost more to make.
The issue is RX 480 that was in PS4 Pro was a $200 GPU in 2016, while a more powerful GPU for PS5 Pro is already $500 or more
Ignoring the PS5 pro, why is the series x not faster than it currently is? I keep thinking there is something wrong with the design or maybe its the virtualisation tech that microsoft are using which is causing too much overheads? GPU but limited to 192 bit after 10 GB has been used the issue?
Thats a good question
My guess is they use a cut down (but not so different) version of Windows on Xbox, wich ends up being heavier than the bare bones OS on PS5. But again thats a guess
xBox multiplat, _this is just the start of it_ ?
I'll believe it when I see it.
Ponies is full of bs..
so basically the ps5 pro specs are compareable to 7800 xt which cannot hit 60 fps 4k on most high tier graphic games unless u put it on medium
Remember though pc has poor optimization compared to Sony Nintendo or Xbox. It's just pure power.
That's why Sony is making their own DLSS for the Pro, who plays on native 4K on PC? Only 4090 users
To sum up: PS5 Pro and Gamepass are pointless! Seriously Michael? 😂
@@dante19890that’s what the comment is saying, nx gamer is saying it’s overblown when it actually isn’t.
@@TheBean87 ye, nx needs to tell it like it is and stop coping
How dev game build their game base of ps5 pro.
they arent, thats the thing. Ps5 will be the base plattform to develop for while ps5 pro just boost the performance and fidelity up.
Where?
Only problem I have with it is that it probably pushes the proper next gen leap to ps6 back a few years by releasing it. Will it?
@@MrLebowski1980 No, it won't.
@@BronasisEU Then I have no problem with it. Not sure if the gap between ps4 original and ps5 was longer because of the pro though.
@@MrLebowski1980the gap between PS3 and PS4 was around 7 years (2006 - 2013), the gap between PS4 and PS5 was also around 7 years (2013- 2020).
@@BronasisEU Ya I guess your right, I'll wait for the ps5 upgrade anyway. unless they somehow they get games like gta at 60 fps on the pro
No ff7 image problems are NOT overblown.
Npc faces look blurry af, ps3 era even
he is an extreme ps fanboy that's what he does related to playstation games..
facts. You cant even see the faces of the characters its so blurry. Even in switch games I can see the faces.
NX is coping hard
@@peattisma1489 he needs to be more honest about these issues
someone needs to tell this fella ms gaming(and pretty much every other major player in gamin) has higher margins than sony yet somehow sony is king according to him....
So no chance of gta 6 at 60 fps?..Was lookin forward to leaving 30 fps behind.
Well R.I.P Xbox.

PS5 pro , yay or nay?
I buy one.
I’m most certainly buying one and giving my current to my child.
Yay-ish, I already own a ps5.
Nay
Yay!
I don’t think the PS5 pro would be 18.66 TF…I’m thinking maybe somewhere around 14 or 15 TF. But I would love to be proven wrong.
18.66TF would be really bad actually. The ps4 pro had 2.5 times the power of the ps4 and came 3 years later. With the ps5 it's been 4 years.
On Techopedia and Tom's guide it's listed as 23.04 TFLOPs
Lmao no
i don't think a console targeting release at the end of 2024 4 years after the PS5 will still use the came crap ZEN 2 cpu from 2019.ZEN 2 already is bottlenecked hard by all the latest gaming titles.See videos on youtube zen 2 vs latest zen 4 or intel cpus and the gap is already huge.I don't think Mark Cerny will make the same mistake as the PS4 PRO which had a gpu 2x times powerful as the PS4 but that gpu was bottlenecked by the crappy Jaguar Cpu the pro used!If PS5 PRO aims for 60 or 120 fps gaming the gpu alone isn't enough it will need at least a ZEN4C cpu to feed a gpu with 60CU at 2,4 ghz.See pc benchmarks and you can see that if you pair a 4090 or 4080 with a cpu 4 or 5 year old the fps difference vs a RYZEN with 3d cache or an intel 13 gen and above is over 50% even in high resolutions.
playstation is also going multiplatform will ALL their games but you dont talk about that..
Xbox is only porting 4 games, no more.
😂
Got any proof of that?
No, it is not.
Xbox on the other hand straight multiplat!
