    I remember your fotki too! I miss the old Fotki and LHCF crew. Sistaslick was the first person to set me on the straight and narrow with a regimen and great products over 7 years ago, and my chewed up hair eventually grew to an unbelievable length just above my waist. Seems like a lifetime ago, and look at her now! I was so grateful for her then and even more proud of her awesomeness now!

    Hey Audrey. I want to thank you. My hair was breaking and shedding excessively. I was so nervous because my hair density is so thin, and i was afraid i was going bald. Then i fell upon your channel and realize my error was that I definitely was not moisturizing my hair but oiling it. I honestly thought they were both the same. This vlog literally saved my hair. Once i applied a moisturizer and oil sealant, my hair became more flexible and soft. thank you

    When I lived in Atlanta, my hair had been doing really well and growing nicely. I shampooed with a moisturizing shampoo, conditioned and detangled, applied a coconut water based leave in, and voila. It grew a stretched inch in a year and was down past to my armpits, stretched, the longest it had been since I went natural. Then I moved to Virginia and went to a stylist who said my ends were dead and tangled, and he cut off so much, it didn't even reach my shoulders stretched. That was 9 months ago and since that time, it has only grown to my shoulder and the shrinkage has increased. I kept the same products and routine but for some reason they were no longer working. My hair and scalp were dry, twist outs didn't look the same. I was really at a loss and researching and trying several different methods and products to get my hair and scalp back healthy and moisturized again. Nothing and I mean NOTHING was working, so even though I didn't like oils, because they were promised to be my saving grace on several articles, I tried them. I went through different types, but the oils would literally just bead on top of my strands. Even when it was soft and shiny, it wasn't growing and my scalp was dry and flaking. I learned about how smooth cuticles of low porosity hair can give the misleading impression of health. I've been wearing protective styles (wigs, crochet braids, hair pieces, flat twists) since December because it's just gotten impossible to style in its current condition.
    I am so happy I stumbled upon this channel. 1:40 seconds in, I already solved one mystery: Using oils alone just made my hair worse. Shouldn't have trusted all those articles.

      InvisibleRen Omg. Same here. When my daughter and I lived in Georgia our hair was thriving. Her hair was long and thick. It grew to her waist. But baby when we moved to Texas our hair health went on a rapid decline. The water here is so horrible. I feel like it's a deliberate attempt to destroy naturals. I know that we might not be targeted, but it sure feels that way. The water became significantly worse, and we moved to another area. My one saving grave might be to buy a water filtering shower head. Anything is worth a try to save our brittle hair. I have cut and recut, but it's still hard and dry. Same as you, all my usual products stopped working. My hair didn't even like the same oils any more.

      @@theredrose777 I'm dealing with the same thing and been dealing with it for a whole year now. It's called hardwater damage. I'm a Texan and our water is extremely hard! You both should try chelating your hair with a chelating shampoo amd THEN deep condtion it like crazy, I mean don't just leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Leave it on until you see no more white residue. No lie, I left mine on for 6 hours and afterwards I saw how my limp curls spiraled again. A chelator is the only thing that can get hardwater buildup out of your hair but they are extremely drying to the hair so you'll have to deep condition like it's no tomorrow! Hardwater contains chlorine and stuff like calcium that a regular and clarifying shampoo can't get out of the hair. Basically lime scale is in your hair and scalp especially if your hair looks dull or is turning copper color. My hair is finally seeing results after looking up hardwater and how to stop the buildup. My hair has been completely stripped of it's moisture and just like you two NOTHING was working on my hair. I did an extreme protein treatment because my hair became limp and it didn't even penetrate my hair. I shampooed like crazy and that didn't work, I bought so many expensive products and that didn't work. That's called ambiguous hair, when nothing works on it. Also my ends seemed as if they always needed cutting even after I had cut them weeks before. Hardwater is the worst thing that has ever happened to my hair but shockingly it's still growing but it was shedding like crazy. When hair has a buildup or moisture loss no product will work on it! My hair used to be so sleek and shiny and now it's dull, frizzy, and dry but it's getting there. It'll take a while for me to restore the moisture back. I used the Mizani Phormula 7 shampoo which is harsh and can only be used once or twice a month so y'all might want to try the Malibu shampoo and conditioner which isn't drying. It's probably hardwater buildup and your moisture balance is completely knocked out of wack which is why no product will work on it. Nothing was working on my hair and my hair was limp and it looked like heat damage but now I'm seeing progress, I just have to restore the moisture so I'm going to try aloe vera which is supposed to be moisterizing and It's ph balanced. I too bought a shower filter. You can also use lemon to try to get that hardwater buildup out of your hair. I also ended up with an extremely itcy scalp because of this hard water. I hope I could help you too and sorry I typed so much.

      @@atheisticafemenina I know your comment was made 1 year ago but I live in Texas and have issue with dry, brittle hair too. I didn't consider hard water buildup. But normally signs of hard water is dry skin out of the shower. I was in Japan for 2 years and the water there dried out my skin out of the shower and eventually started affecting my hair. What part Texas are you in? I'm near Dallas where showers don't dry out my skin to indicate hard water. Also, I was wondering if I was using too many products with protein in it. So, I detox with bentonite clay and using protein free products, remoisturizing & sealing more frequently between shampoos.

    I will be tuning in to the moisture series! My protein/moisture balance was way off. I purchased the book & made the adjustments. Now my hair is soft & not brittle anymore. My concern is I'm trying to figure out when & how much protein I will need to add so it stays balanced. I'm going to follow the Zone 1 regiment that you mentioned in the book for now and slowly introduce protein back into my regiment. LOVE THIS CHANNEL!!!

    I need Help!!!! I've had protein overload for ever!!!! It's been about 4 months I'm losing hair like crazy little snapping strands every where!!! It seems like no matter what I do I can't get the moisture back!!! I thought I cut out protein but I still find traces of it in my Dc and leave in! My hair is weird cause I have about 4 inches of heat damage at the ends of my hair that gets gummy if I use too much moisture so far I'm in a green house method to try to restore the moisture balance I spritz my hair add raw shea butter and bag it every night should I keep doing this?

    • @tr7348
      @tr7348 10 лет назад +4

      Are you sure your experiencing protein overload? If you have gummy hair it seems that you may have over-moisturized and actually need protein. I would give it a try since you have already tried using everything for moisture. Use a light protein to start; Aphogee's Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer. Wash your hair and spray prior to roller setting (focus on your ends). If this doesn't work, use Joico Clarifying Shampoo (in case the breakage is due to hair product build-up). Also, trim your ends!! Goodluck.

    hello, I am just starting my hair journey on my relaxed hair , obviously the key is to moisturize and seal my hair everyday, but my question is how long the oil ( like coconut oil for a light one or castor oil for a heavy one) stay on the hair and does the job as a sealant?
    My concern is that my sealant oil from monday may prevent my tuesday moisture to penatrate the hair for example. Am I wrong?
    Otherwise, thanks for this video!

    • @theblacknezuko

      I think if you rinse the oil out and add some humectants on your hair, it will be ready to be moisturized again (: because oils don't have affinity with water, but they do have with conditioners. So working with conditioner before using your humectants again might help! Hope it makes sense!
