Hi, Gareth, thats another eggcelent video.a valiant attempt at trying new methods but after your extensive research its been concluded that sticking with the old ways is the best. Keep up the spot on work. Best wishes from Scotland.
I love these videos! My little brother works nights as a doorman and I've told him about the microwave roast dinners I saw on one of your videos and he loves them!
I made two in a pan the other day together; the trick is not to think it hasn’t worked when you see white all over the water, couple of minutes later you fish out two perfectly poached eggs.
I just put three quarters of a mug of boiling water in a mug, add a raw egg, heat for 40 seconds, turns out spot on. To be fair though doesn't take much longer in a saucepan on top of the oven. You need more water in I think so the egg literally poaches in the water.
YES, this is the best way to do it, boiled water half cup, place raw egg in BUT cover with a plate and 45 seconds, absolutely gorgeous, NO BUTTER AT ALL!!!
There is an art to this. My tip is to turn the power down to medium, and a little more water. People often forget they can turn the power down on microwaves, and eggs don't like intense bursts of heat. Good 2nd effort though, and I would have eaten the first one too!
I knew eggxactly what was going to happen but I did find it eggxiting and I'm a bit shell shocked over the situation 🤣🤣🤣sorry couldn't resist at least you tried it again so you didn't get egg on your face 🤣🤣brilliant video as usual made me smile have a good day young man from joff the trucker
You can't beat the old fashioned way of poaching eggs. A gentle simmer and 3-4 mins depending on the size. I tried some of those weird rubber/plastic poaching cup things once and they were bloody useless. About 15 mins in the eggs were still raw.
Well Gareth that really made me laugh,I saw it coming as soon as you stuck that cup in microwave with no cover and as you just said you’d just cleaned your microwave I’d already started laughing , then your face when you saw the mess and said I’m gonna have to clean it again , priceless, it took me back years ago when I was boiling a pan of eggs and forgot, they burnt dry I heard these explosions , the walls and ceiling were splattered, what a mess & a job cleaning it up. Need more laughs like that, I’ll watch it again, take care
@@BaldFoodieGuy i did that too but i did mine on the hob i forgot about them and they really did make one hell of a mess all over the ceiling it even burnt the pan it took me ages to get rid of the burnt egg spell
Have you tried the cling film method? Line a cup with cling film, grease the cling film with oil, crack the egg into the cling filmed cup, wrap the egg quite firmly to remove air, seal the cling film with a clip or elastic band then poach for 4-5 minutes in simmering, not boiling water. Almost the same as what you already do, but perfectly shaped every time when you get used to it. Plus you can do many at the same time because they won't stick to each other.
Great 'eggsperiment' Gareth, you're a scientist, 🥚🍳🍛 ! I've seen some the guys do this at work, however; I don't know what their secret is. It's all fun, enjoy pal.
The best method I found is to sous vide them but it's a bit of a palavah. Set temp to 74c then drop the eggs in still in the shell. Take them out after 15 mins or dump in them in freezing cold water to stop the cooking. You can keep them in the fridge for a few days that way. Then take them out of the shell and drop into boiled water for a minute.
No Gareth, do it the old way! I'm from Warrington and I'm a staunch rugby league fan. Your accent reminds me of all our excellent players gone by! The Cumbrian lads were absolutely spot on and such lovely blokes! We don't get many nowadays but omg, best players ever! 😘
you need to pierce the yolk to avoid the eggs exploding! Releases the tension around the yolk - try a silicon egg poacher - can be used for other small stuff
Saw your video this morning I thought I try it, omw I stick to a boiling a egg in pan. Yesterday I try this but in a big glass bowl with similar water to boiling a egg in a pan. I work so well should have suck to it. Never mind my microwave alot clean now 🤣 keep up the good work.
YES, this is the best way to do it, boiled water half cup, place raw egg in BUT cover with a plate and 45 seconds, absolutely gorgeous, NO BUTTER AT ALL!!!
@@steventeasdale9082 If I understand this right, water is boiling in the cup, you then add the egg, no microwave and in 45 seconds, it is perfectly poached without any chance of it exploding?
I think one is supposed to pop the yolk with a fork before cooking in the microwave. But I still stand by my method with a silicone poaching pod in a saucepan of water.
Gareth it turned out good in the end lol, after reading some of the messages l don't think it's worth doing microwave had a laugh thinking about my time scotch eggs in microwave was going party in park friend decided to knock while l was waiting forgot about them exploded really made mess never again, great video ♥️😂😂🤣
You have to prick the yolk with a pin - the yolk has a membrane around it and pressure builds up in it, causing an explosion... a tiny hole allows air to escape.
I usually melt some butter in a Ramekin. Then crack the egg in . Pierce the yolk with a cocktail stick. Cover with cling film and then put it in microwave for about 30 secs on full.
My wife once poached 2 eggs for me and served them on toast. She brought them to me, and I sprinkled a little salt on them. Then I prodded my fork into the first yolk.....WHOOSH........egg all over the ceiling. She hadn't pricked the yolks .
😆 Nice one Gaz... That gave me a good laugh mate... There wasn't enough water in the cup my friend... There's supposed to be 50% water in the cup with no butter either... Once the Egg is cracked into the cup... Use a toothpick or pointed sharp knife to pierce the Egg Yolk... This prevents a build-up of pressure in the Egg Yolk... This stops the Egg Yolk from exploding in the microwave... Your 800 Watt microwave needs to be set for one minute exactly... Once removed after cooking... If it's still slightly underdone just leave it in the hot water for another fifteen to twenty seconds or so... It should then be perfect... Once you try it a few times... You'll start to make them perfect every time... Don't give up on it mate... You'll eventually get there buddy... Remember there's plenty of (how to) videos on this platform... All the best... Cheers Gaz. 🍺
@@majiek1304 As soon as Gaz put a tiny amount of water in the cup... And didn't pierce the Egg Yolk... I knew what was about to happen... I was just waiting for the inevitable pop or bang... 😆😆😆

I've got one of those small pans you put water in, break the egg into a compartment and then put the glass lid on, Takes about 5 minutes when the water is boiling. Good effort though in the microwave, I once blew up a tin of spaghetti hoops, it took me ages to get all the remains out. 😂😂

If u break the egg in a bit of cling film so it's in a wee pouch then put a wee bit water in a ramekin do 30 seconds first check the white then usually only needs another 10 seconds and gives you the best results
Gareth what I do is fill the mug half full of waater then put the egg in and do the timer for 1 min 700w microwave, check it when its done and see if needs to be done for few seconds longer, I have had one egg explode on me but generally it works no need to butter the mug. Also depends on the size of the egg. Cheers Brian
As soon as a watched you put it in the microwave you was pretty lucky it didn't all come out. When putting a egg in a microwave you always need to just prick the Yoke to stop that happening as the yoke in in a sack and the steam can't escape we have all done it. As long as you prick the yoke with a skewer you can cook a egg on a plate comes out like a fried egg.
Hi from Florida, USA. I’m American and quite the foodie. Ok, I see a possible problem. Your microwave is 1200 watts. I have 1000 watts so about 50 seconds for a poached egg. Use a little more water like 30 ml not 20. We Americans refrigerate eggs so I leave it out at room temp but I think my UK friends do not refrigerate them. So I’m thinking you need to reduce the power from full to maybe half and give it another try. I just made a poached egg in a ceramic coffee cup. First try, perfection.
Smashing video mate, always enjoy. As soon as you put the first cup in the microwave, and didn’t cover the top in cling-film, I thought to myself “He’s gonna regret doing that!!”

Thanks for the tips! Cheers Stacy, all the best 👍
Smashing video mate, always enjoy.
As soon as you put the first cup in the microwave, and didn’t cover the top in cling-film, I thought to myself “He’s gonna regret doing that!!”
thanks 😊
Great video Gaz, I use more water and a few drops of vinegar
