2019 update: Ok so reading some comments over the past 2 years, some of you have mentioned that some of the poached eggs were over cooked. When filming this video it was all done in multiple takes, as I moved the camera around to get the right shots for filming, which ultimately meant that some of the eggs were sitting around longer than I wanted, meaning they continued to cook a bit more in the residual heat. Also some of you are concerned about using clingfilm to poach the eggs. This is an age old chef's trick, but obviously you would use food safe cling film. If you are still concerned......simply don't use this method.
@@petuser1 it helps keep the egg whites together especially when you spin the water, when I just do straight up water I lose more egg whites and the egg doesn't look as smooth. Though some people don't agree
Just watched your youtube video. I've tried others ways on cooking poached eggs and watch vids on here and tried but yours is the easiest to understand. Loving the cling film method...simple and tidy....off to do it now as im super hungry now lol!. I'm subscribed to you now so I'll be watching for more tips and recipes. Thanks Adam 🤘😉🍽
Been using the cling film method for many years, easy to do multiple eggs in one go. A bit fiddly at first, but now it’s quick and easy with no floaty bits in the pan. And yes it’s a food safe product.
Hi Adam, I love the plastic wrap (cling film) way of poaching. I've used that at home. One of the ways, however, that I learned (no matter what method you use) is to crack your egg into a strainer to remove the very thin part of the white. Most eggs have a small amount of thin white and then a lot of thick white (raw, I mean). Once you strain off the watery, thin white, you don't have a lot of wispy areas floating in the water. Thanks so much for your great video!!!
It's overall the best thing to do, especially if you are wanting to make multiple eggs. If you use really fresh eggs (in the US, there is a number on the side of every egg carton, eggs collected on January 1st will have a 1, and December 31 will have 365) separate the outer white from the inner white with a fine mesh strainer, you can poach 4 eggs at once in the pot. Pop them in an ice water bath to stop them from cooking, and store in the fridge for 8 hours..when needed, just pop them in simmering water for about a minute to heat, done.
I love poached eggs, so thank you for sharing a variety of ways of cooking them. Your videos are really fun, entertaining and educational, keep it up! Thank you! 😋👌🏻
Love a poached egg and I’ve used all those methods myself though personal preference is the (1st) traditional free flowing “let’s see how it goes” method 😄 , but I’ve a friend who loves poached eggs and despite every effort hasn’t a clue so bought him silicone poachers! Time to send him your masterclass! Well done on a straight-forward, no over-egging it (pardon the pun) how-to 👏🙌🏻
I made poached eggs in water for the first time this morning. (I have made them before but always in a tiny pan where you put water in the bottom, the egg in a 'scoop' on top and with a lid over it.) Today's effort came out very tasty but with a lot of nasty stringy 'foam' that I threw away. So I Googled how to do it properly for next time, and you came up! I love your simple, clear way of explaining how to do it and can't wait to try the cling film method tomorrow! Many thanks, it was very good information, I like the way you explain and show how to do things. Appreciated and subscribed!
I use the cling film method. It's a bit more fiddly but it produces a neater result, and you have less water on the egg which otherwise makes the toast soggy. Plus you can prepare multiple eggs and cook them all at the same time much more easily.
This video is wonderful!!!!! Thank you so much for posting it. I will definitely be using the cling film method and a few others as well. Thank you!!! 🤗
After looking round for you tube for a really easy to follow nothing fancy way of poaching eggs, I watched Adam and he made it look achievable. Gonna practice all 4 methods next time I'm making brekkie 😊
It’s made my mouth water as I watch in bed this morning in lockdown I always have two eggs so what’s the best way doing them together. Maybe the cling film method?
Wow! I will do poached eggs for my family! It's good u have 4 ways i will add 1 how i poached an egg i just put 1 Tbsp water to my soup bowl & microwave it for 2 min & its done!💕
Oh my, TY! I used a ladle & cannot believe oiling it prior wasn’t all that’s needed to succeed 🤦🏽♀️; I’m looking forward to try again using your genius method. 😉
Eggspert!😊 I fry mine with about 10mm of hot water in a small frying pan with a glass lid. The steam cooks the top. No need to votex. Bring to boil, turn down to simmer, put egg in, apply lid. Check occasionally, till done.
Thanks so much, I was so tired this morning I forgot to do the swirl thing and the egg whites just kind of broke up into a million pieces. Great tips I hope to see more of your food hacks because this one was amazing. :)
Great video, thanks! Surprising and educating :) I've been using method #1 for a few years now and I recommend adding a tiny bit of vinegar to the water + not salting the water. (That said, I just treated myself to a cheap but effective 'egg poacher' - which is basically a small pan that comes with a metal surface that holds tiny plastic bowls - similarly to your ladle technique - it works really nicely!)
I use small ziplock bags with a bit of butter in one corner. Lay the bag down and rub bag to spread butter around in the corner. Add egg, close nearly completely and immerse in boiling water for approx 4min. Remove and scissor cut bag just above the egg to let it drop onto your toast. You can add a good shot of vinegar before the egg goes in if you're weird like me cause I always liked that flavor to my poached eggs. I like this method as it's quicker than plastic wrap but still allows you to get a batch ready to go ahead of time. I usually do 6 and when time is up I just grab all 6 bags out of the water at once.
No need to tie the clingfilm, just twist so you can use less. Also melted butter instead of oil works well. My favourite poaching method (and easy to do several eggs at the same time). Alternative method: Use an old fashioned egg poaching pan!
Amazingly new techniques for me to learn! Thanks for the simple instruction! Can't wait to try your methods of which I knew not. God Bless the Chickens🐓🐣🤭
I go with the last method but using little jars or cups or whatever is handy - for not producing so much plastic rubbish as with using the cling film. Thanks a bunch, that was very helpful and not having so much mess and waste of egg compared to the vinegar in water method 👍💕
I have developed a method using a macro-wave oven. It is similar to the ramakin method, but used a deep glass saucer and a margarine wiped interior surface, and SLOW heating for 3 minutes. Prick the egg yoke to avoid "explosions". If the eggs comes directly from the fridge, add an extra half-minute.
Came across your channel while looking how to poach an egg 🥚 ty! New subscriber watching all your videos! Love the plastic wrap idea! Def gonna try that! & you’re right we do call it Saran Wrap 😂
The plastic method is the least desirable because plastics contain xenoestrogens which are pervasive in processed food packaging. They are endocrine disruptors which wreak havoc on the endocrine system. Cooking with plastic is never recommended due to the heat releasing plastic chemicals into the food. Plastics are a petroleum byproduct. Petroleum is carcinogenic. Hence, raising risk for cancer as well.

some recipes mention vinegar in the water,,, or is that not important?

Adam Garratt studies show heating Saran Wrap increases your chance of cancer.
don't use it then
I bought some egg poacher cups (from Amazon) and now for the first time in my life I can make perfect poached eggs any time I want! 👍
Really enjoyed your video . I think the Saran Wrap would be my choice keep the great videos coming 😊
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks for posting! My mum taught me the first way, but it sure is nice to see other doable options, especially the multiple egg one.
Been using the cling film method for many years, easy to do multiple eggs in one go. A bit fiddly at first, but now it’s quick and easy with no floaty bits in the pan.
And yes it’s a food safe product.
I’m concerned about being exposed to all of the microplastics.
I think the first way seems the easiest and most suitable for me (a nine year old) to make. Thank you for letting me know!
Just no need to stir the water.
I never knew any proper ways to poach an egg and watching this gave me a sort of confidence in it. Thank you, great video!
👍👌👏best poached egg tips ever! Thanks for sharing😘
You're welcome! 🙂
Thank you 😉
1st & last method seems much healthier - without plastic leaching through heated plastic.
Stainless steal
Wow, too easy! I could have been doing this all along! Thank you from across the pond; I love poached eggs!

Judy Fleming tanks you Judy! I'm going to give that method a bash! ☺

Please don’t use plastic wrapper / cling film method, the world doesn’t need more unnecessary plastic waste.
Great video, clear instructions and lovely results. Could eat a poached egg now! Thanks for posting.
I love poached eggs, so thank you for sharing a variety of ways of cooking them. Your videos are really fun, entertaining and educational, keep it up! Thank you! 😋👌🏻

Loved all the methods . Poached eggs are always tricky for me to do . Maybe not after this .

Thanks! My mother used the last method. I guess I'll do the same.

Try using a tablespoon of vinegar in the water; should help to keep it together.
Great video, thanks! Surprising and educating :)

Thank you very much for posting this video! It’s very helpful!
Great tutorial. Thanks.
Good stuff thanks
Thank you for sharing.😁💖
Very nice. You accomplished your goal! Super!
Thank you mate 😁
I tried all of those methods. The best and easiest is the swirling water one. I add salt and vinegar to the water which helps keep the egg together.
That's what I just saw on another video and was like (Oh no wonder my eggs have been turning out so horrible, lol) I'm definitely
trying it.
You can also put ant sperm in there 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜👑👑🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🙌🙌🐸
Looks so easy to make
This was Great! Can't wait to try these methods. Thank you!

I'll try this tomorrow.
Those were cooked perfectly Adam.
I could eat all four of those. Look so good!
They look perfect. I'm definitely trying the last one. I've made egg drop soup to many times w #1
I like the way you use hot water in the frying pan, it makes a big difference from the way my mommy does it.
No need to tie the clingfilm, just twist so you can use less. Also melted butter instead of oil works well. My favourite poaching method (and easy to do several eggs at the same time). Alternative method: Use an old fashioned egg poaching pan!
What a great video. You have such a nice way of presenting. Good for you.

You're welcome 🙂
Wonderful, thanks for sharing
Thank you so much. It was useful
Good ideas, thank you!!
Thank you! Another little trick is to add some vinegar to the boiling water before adding the eggs. The vinegar helps to solidify the whites.
I go with the last method but using little jars or cups or whatever is handy - for not producing so much plastic rubbish as with using the cling film.
Thanks a bunch, that was very helpful and not having so much mess and waste of egg compared to the vinegar in water method 👍💕
Cool, thanks for sharing the plethora of knowledge you are acquiring along the path.
Your channel is so underrated.

Those GÜ ramekins really do come in handy.
