    Why is your video distorted at 6:20 (when moving the camera around) is it something to do with the rendering? I have seen this before when I have edited stuff together.. but not sure why it happens..

    The problems I have with camcorder is what u love and I love and that is the blurry background ir aka depth of field which u need in movies or videos or even talking heads i sont want everything in focus I want that good depth of field putting a lense on it with a small apteure. U should really test the best red or even the knew zev2 for video ya know there pretty small (but can’t run and gun without a setup though and there small without the rig etc lol) wel the body is lol. But yes that’s why camcorder will never get my vote, unless maybe the full frame Sony u have does that have interchangeable lenses??

    I want that Black Widow figurine that was shown in the panning footage!
    Markus, I need a camera for recording my art drawing UTube videos; was just gonna go with either a Sony or a Fuji DSLR camera . But now I'm seriously thinking of getting a camcorder instead. I like the just point & shoot ease of a camcorder. I don't know that much about cameras and or camcorders; so here goes with what's prolly a stupid question: Can I, with a camcorder also take single snapshot pictures & print them off - like you can with a camera? Also can camcorders be used for live-streaming, hooked into a pc with an HDMI cable that's plugged into the new Elgoto Cam Link Pro?
    (I use OBS to live-stream to UTube & Twitch).
    I love your channel; glad I just found it - and subscribed!

  • @xjet
    @xjet 3 года назад +15

    I looked at the Sony AX700 recently when I needed to upgrade to a 4K camcorder. It's got great specs but sadly its maximum framerate at 4K is just 30FPS. I shoot a lot of video which has rapid movement, regular pans and such. 30FPS either looks like mud (if you use 180 degree shutter) or becomes very staccato (strobey) if you run the higher shutter speed needed to do effective stabilization in post. I settled on the Panasonic HC-X1500 (which will do 60FPS at 4K) and I'm more than happy with it.
    If I was making movies I'd opt for the AX700 but I'm not so the Panasonic is better suited to *my* needs. Note that I didn't even consider a mirrorless camera for the upgrade to 4K for all the reasons you mentioned as to why camcorders are superior in some cases :-)

    • @SMGJohn
      @SMGJohn 2 года назад

      @@BoothTheGrey
      Actually if its professionals we talk about you have deceivable image of them, if we talk TV and journalists, they just use whatever they have at hand, its too expensive to keep buying new equipment every 10 years, so they often use stuff thats several years old, I have worked in TV news station that broadcasts in 4k, and we had to use cameras from 15 years ago shooting in 1080i with miniDV cassettes.
      Also scientists will never use cameras with automatic settings LOL, they will need to be able to reproduce whatever they are documenting, so the settings has to be manual with a camera that produces the LEAST amount of variables, consumer tech wont do that for you, thats why scientific equipment is made.
      Cameras that you usually plug into computers.
      You are essentially just defending blind folded consumerism, you do not need 4k or 180 fps in a camera if you gonna film a few kids running around kicking a ball in the field.
      You do not need 4k to become successful on RUclips, specifications, wont make you win any awards here, you honestly think Hollywood cares about specs? LOL
      Its always whats behind the camera, that matters.
      A lot of those award winning nature documentaries from BBC, were shoot on telelenses, macro lenses and a 1000 dollar camera which did not film in 4k.
      Shooting in flat profiles or RAW video, yeah its good if you do work that needs it, but your RUclips video or family video, does not give a flying shit about that, people today, have no patience, no time, its all gotta happen NOW, thats why, YOU want to buy expensive camera, so you wont have to learn how to expose correctly.
      This is why we have so many car accidents, because people are too stupid and lazy to learn how to drive properly, they are impatient, and impatience leads to early death.

    • @SMGJohn
      @SMGJohn 2 года назад +1

      @Tony McGurk
      Exactly, its as you say, people cannot really tell what camera is used, they care only that the image is clear enough and lighting is good and that the audio is top notch, otherwise it might as well be shot on a 50 bucks 1080i DV camcorder from 2007.
      It is ironic to me that some of the most successful RUclipsrs use subpar equipment that cost less than 1000 dollars.
      Its always the content that matters the most, and Hollywood actually do not use as expensive cameras as people think they do, there is a lot of cheap 500 dollar cameras used as B-camera (secondary cameras) to film stuff in which their large cinema cameras cannot fit, and I am pretty sure very few notices when they use clips filmed by such cheap cameras, they literally used GoPro cameras during production of latest Marvel movies LOL.
      It is a shame, we live in a world were no one has patience anymore, its all gotta happen now or never.

    You got it! I worked years with Camcorders. But now days apparently all the RUclips guys switched to DLRS. So I tried, too. Yes, the quality is fine ... but! Wanna get nice audio on your DSLR= so you have to use an external mike. Wanna get Zoom? Ok, switch the lens. To sum it up: you are configuring your DSLR all the time to technical issues your Camcorder has already on board. In my eyes just use DSLRs only for the little few shots where you wanna have some DOF. By the way: Has anybody noticed some Codec issues with the A6400? Do the test: A dark room, switch the light on and watch compression particles in the picture. Never was an issue on a Camcorder!

    You can't approach a movie like you would a picture and the ideal video camera is not a photo camera. If you look at people using dslr or mirrorless cameras for video, they usually have a bunch of stuff attached to a rig to make the camera work. The strength of a camcorder is most if that stuff is included in a small package.

    Great video. Usually I reach for my "bridge camera", the Panasonic Lumix FZ300 for the same reasons that the camcorders work so well. It has a fast Leica lens with a lot of zoom paired with a small sensor. It works great as a travel camera too... with one exception, which is probably why you don't have it... it's pretty large. It's a great camera though. Even though I have a lot of "better" cameras, the FZ300 is the most fun (and easy) to use.

If one of the cameras that had difficulty focusing were running at f1.8 and the ones that were doing it easily were at f4.5 or something then that would have made more sense. In some cases I'd be ok with poorer autofocus if it meant I could pull DOF in my shots.

      @@MarkusPix Thanks for the reply! I'll try to keep my eyes out for your more technical comparisons then. I'm currently trying to decide on a good 4k camera (with full frame being a big big plus) for video. I keep coming back to the Canon EOS R5 though. Especially since I already have a bunch of EF lenses.

    Hahahahhhh!!! 🤣🤣🤣 You're highly professional yet funny in the way you describe the situations. I bought the Sony CX405 because of you. Camcorder rules! I often film outdoors under hot sun, exactly the panic mode You're talking about! Thanks!

    I feel like some innovation is needed sometimes, mirrorless cameras should have screens with bluetooth connectivity that you can take off that have their own little battery that charges when you plug it back in. It'd solve everyone's issues except for ones that get stolen.

    I have to disagree with you about the Sony CX405. I sent one back after 24 hours. It wouldn't focus on anything further than 30 feet away. The color was near impossible to fix in post. It was slow and responded poorly to background motion. I bought several of those no-name brand $99--$250 camcorders and I suspect one of them bought the use of Sony's name to stamp on it.

    I got the Panasonic HC-X2000 (the unit above X1500) and as someone else said it's because it does 50p and 60p.. I would of loved the Sony AX700 too but its best is only 30p and that just isn't the best for motion. as for the hard to find auto switch (dude its clear on the left side back of the unit to make it super easy to find) but yer great video as always. You are a man with all the gear :)

    Markus: the go-to camcorder guy 👍 Great points made, man. I am switching to camcorders for streaming, for the exact reason you highlight - simplicity. During live streaming you don't need to be puzzling. There is enough going on!
    Do you or any of your subscribers have any suggestions for which camcorder would meet these requirements:
    - 1080 is fine - don't need 4K;
    - Clean HDMI out (VIP);
    - Ability to record/stream for hours at a time;
    - Zoom (streaming will include outdoor streaming too, where the subject will be at a distance);
    - Some lower-light ability 🤦‍♂(within reason, and balanced against the next point, which is probably the most important);
    - Inexpensive (here on the tip of Africa, I have to multiply the Amazon/B&H price by 20 and I need to get at least 2 camcorders😩)
    - PAL (because, Africa)
    Would the Sony CX405 check these boxes, or what would you suggest?
    Thank you to anyone who can assist.

    Completely off topic: I haven't seen "Fix und Foxi" since about 1961! Brings back memories.
    There was a German barber in my town (near Sydney) who also sold newspapers, "Fix und Foxi", "Das Beste aus Readers Digest", "Bunte Illustrierte" usw. Great when I was studying German at school.

    lol, 2:44 auto mode on a nice camera is not even close to a camcorder’s performance. I was just testing it so it doesn’t matter yet, but I got the footage back to my computer & realized I have to learn how to correct all these issues I didn’t know I had to learn about….

    good vid and great idea to compare cameras. I want to suggest a similar vid for you. Make an "obsticle course" to compare cameras but have one area for depth of field, you kinda had it here but you didn't mention anything about camcorders had zero depth of field. and also low light areas and maybe go from indoors to the bright sun outdoors, the way the camera adapt for the change in brightness, maybe go down to a controlled lit studio setting with colored lights and see how the camera picks that up.

    What about other brands of camcorders, like those of JVC and Canon and Samsung? They don't make camcorders anymore but you can find some pretty decent ones.
    I currently use a JVC Everio GZ-MS100. It's not HD, it only has digital IS (good for walking but not for much else), auto white balance sucks, and it can hunt in low light. And it has JVC's gimmicky "laser touch" slider control. The lens isn't that great either, purple fringing and distortion is present, and the sensor is low res. (like 360K dots or smth) but it's got awesome colors! Very vibrant & rich, it really likes greens, oranges and reds, which makes it perfect for fall season and sunsets.
    I have an idea; what do you think of standard def. (720x480i) camcorders, and is it really possible to shoot videos like yours with one? Nowadays everyone wants at least 1080p footage, but I'm still stuck in the 480p realm because I'm a cheapskate on a shoestring budget.

    Add audio tests to this shootout. So far, from my tests, the Sony A99 and A5000 handle loud music with heavy bass like in a nightclub. My GL2, E-PL1,and GE X5 do not handle this problem without distorting. DM me for links to example clips.

    I agree with you, a 110% I use both Camcorders and DSLR cameras, with camcorders it's just as you said, "Push and Go". No hassle, no headaches, I found that my stress level drops dramatically when I am using Camcorders as opposed to DSLR Cams.
    The next best alternative is your smartphone (I don't use them) DSLR are good but in every situation, you need to prepare them well in advance, and if you're outside and the weather changes you will need to reset everything, with Camcorders they simply adapt to the changes on the fly. I love my camcorder, they are amazing, I still have my 25 year old Sony Handycams and I am still using them to this day

    Because you love camera. There is one camera you haven't tryed you can get it on eBay. Goggle Olympus CAMEDIA C-2100 Ultra Zoom 2.1MP it's a very fun, well build, one of a kind camera. It's just perfect. But for it m.p And media. It's has a special custom build canon Len on it 2.8 at the low end. And it excell in dark shadow or a room and morning sun ray shine in. It can capture it beautiful. I had people praising it in photo forum. It just like the Panasonic 900, same sweetness. But I use to love going up in the mountains and where there all trees look for holes where you can see the sky. This is where it shine, it love sun rays. Just a sweet lens.and the menu is full as canon. Even gray scale picture. And micro of flower is good as any camera now.

    I think the Sony ZV-1 would beat all of these camcorders for full auto shooting, no overheating, 1" sensor, built in zoom (significant zoom with clear image zoom enabled), newest sony AF w/ eye detect, fully articulating screen, ships with wind screen, great IBIS + digital stabilization, and with the bluetooth shooting grip that comes with the vlogging package its just as good ergonomically
