My first camera was the Panasonic GF1, a micro four thirds system. Its compact size, especially with the pancake lens, made it easy for me to carry everywhere. It introduced me to the world of photography, a passion I had never considered before. While I currently shoot with a full-frame mirrorless camera, I sometimes find myself missing the convenience of a compact interchangeable camera that I could have with me at all times.

I just bought my first M4/3 an Olympus P-E7. I wanted a small 85mm equivalent and this seems about the best way with the 45mm f/1.8. Hopefully no regrets.
I have 2 Canon R6s. Love them cameras. But like you, I wanted something compact that I could bring along everywhere I go. In the past I had a Fujifilm X100T, a FANTASTIC camera. I love it so much. BUT, i felt limited with the fixed lens. So a small package with interchangeable lenses was a must for the next camera. It took me a long time. Priorities were always work gear, not fun gear. But I got tired of hauling a large body and huge lenses everywhere, plus, it calls other people attention. Since the M6 was released I felt in love with the design and specs. But, again, priorities were gear for work. Besides, the M6 was expensive. It was until recently that a M6bMark ii was published at a unbelievable price. I first though it was a scam. So I called the guy, asked him for a video conference and all. And finally got my beloved M6. It was just the body and could just afford the Canon 22 f2. I know it's discontinued, I know it's older tech and that my R6s are way better cameras, but in the last 3 or 4 months since I got the M6 I have taken 2-1 more photos with it that with the R6. I take it with me every day when I walk my dogs at the park. And even left the second R6 home and took the M6 as a second body to an event, and I loved the results. Lenses are cheap (compared to RF lenses, of course) but can't afford more lenses right now. I have my eye in some 7Artisans and Laowa. so... soon, I hope. It's incredible that you can have a camera and 3 lenses, plus accessories and more, in a small bag. Perfect for traveling. I'm looking forward for Canon releasing a RF camera with the form factor of the M6
Great video as always. I have two things to say 1) Try the Sony Nex 5t, it's the smallest sony E mount camera and works very well. It's smaller than the a5100 and the smallest of all Sony APSC cameras. It's near the size of the Panasonic GM1 and you can attach an external viewfinder 2) It surprise me that you haven't tried the Fujifilm line. They have small great cameras (XE line and basic XA line). Now they have the XS20 that it's small enough to travel without concern about size. And Fuji have small lenses too
This was a fun video! I love old cameras, have a small collection of old film models going back to the early 1900s, but now I'll make a list of these in your video and start enjoying some older digital cameras by haunting garage sales and such. The smaller cameras are so much fun for travel and daily carry, and have control that phone cameras just physically cannot replicate...yet! EDIT: I found your list--and links!--in the description, thanks, now I just need to execute.
Following your video on GM1 and GM5 I acquired both. I am delighted with the GM5 (because of the EVF). I take it with me everyday at work and use it during lunch break or on the way to the office.
Love Micro Four Thirds! A number of the cameras shown are porting the Lumix 12-32mm ƒ/3.5-5.6 ASPH which has stabilisation. Terrific lens to pair with the G1s, and really small.
i love your enthusiasm man, finally a youtuber that embodies the same excitment i have for tiny cameras that come with EVFs. Edit: if only Samsung made a newer NX mini with a micro four thirds sensor, an EVF, mic in, headphone out & 4K30 recording :/
Great video Markus. You show again, that needs not the greatest, biggest and newest equipment to take great pictures and it’s mostly the photographer and not the gear.
I loved this video!! I have a Lumix G100 that I purchased after a G85 and I'm learning to love it's small size. I've got a collection of MFT lenses and a Nikon to MFT adaptor so I can use my Nikon glass.
I prefer APS-C over M4/3, so I went for a Canon M200 with a 22mm F2.0 just like the one you showed on this video. I really love it. It's so fun to use and is pretty sharp, too!
Since your first video on small cameras I've randomly looked for them locally. I did find an EM10 mk3 that was an absolute blast. I seriously struggled to part ways with it.
I currently have the em10 MK3 having previously had a mk 2 and it is a great camera, lets you crop in quite dramatically without losing detail. Only problem for me has been reliability - got through two 14 - 42 pancake kit lenses in less than five years. Now have a manual 14 - 42 to mitigate any further probs.
Dude you are amazing I had a banding issue for a while and to get around it I would crank up my lights. But as soon as I figured out ntsc and 1/60 it's been amazing. Thanx again
I love those tiny cameras, too. If you get the chance, get yourself an Olympus E-PL1. This had the really old 12mpix sensor, but god damn those colours. These older Olympus cameras had this special Olympus look. After they introduced cameras with the 16mpix Sony sensor, these colours where gone. Trust me, it's worth it.
Wow! Such positive energy! It makes me want to buy every single one of those cameras! :) Speaking of which, I'm looking for some compact ones for family and some close up product photography and Panasonic GX85 and Nikon Z50 are some of my options.
@@MarkusPix Thanks Markus! I have an option of Nikon Z50 vs Panasonic GX85 here in Europe and in the USA I could look for Sony RX100 VII. In your opinion, which one would be the best for family stuff and product photography?
I’ve been with Olympus since the 1970s. I’ve tried the others and they all have great performance and features but I’ve always come back to Olympus. I’m waiting for he release of the Olympus Pen F version 2 for the same reasons you point out in this video.
Great video, as always :) I just bought a Nikon 1 J2, new in the box, for $54, including the lens. But, I might have to look for some of the ones you showed here too in the future :)
I love my G100D , I'm even thinking of getting rid of my G9. The G100D with my Nissin i40 or i60 and HSS set I can get 1/500th flash speed. The i40 is a perfect match and punches well above it's weight.
Have fun taking photographs of the things you love. A phone will suffice. I like a small digital camera. Good enough is good enough. There aren’t any bad cameras being manufactured now. Old cameras that took good images continue to do so. There are a lot of very performant older cameras at surprisingly affordable prices if you want a digital camera body & lenses. There are a lot of things you can do with your camera phone. Have fun with your photography. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
PentaxQ 98 x 57 x 31 mm (186) Lumix GM1 99 x 55 x 30 mm (184) Yeah it's cute, but that tiny low rez camcorder sensor is a deal breaker. Compared to Micro four thirds that sensor is a speck. No viewfinder, no touch screen, no face detection, no huge selection of lenses like M43 has, but yes its a cute camera.
Some wonderful cameras! Fun to use is important! Maybe consider the small OM 5 as well? That said, My favorite travel and hiking camera is the rx1007. Can’t change the lens, but such great range in a small package! Just wish it was waterproof, but when needed that usually means I use an action camera.

Markus, I always enjoy your videos and trust your opinions. My smallest interchangeable lens camera bodies are the E-PL1 (very old model), Y1M1, N1J1, GX85, A5100, NEX3N, and A6000. Only 2 of these have an EVF but I still enjoy using all of them.
@samsen3965 my Y1M1 came from a pawn shop with only the 42.5 F1.8 lens. Had to get batteries and charger from Amazon. Works fine, wish it had EVF. I use the lens on my other M43 bodies more than this camera body.
@@patrickmcfadden1689 Thanks for the reply. You seem to have done the best of it. That 42.5mm is a true gem. I got my full kit of body and 2 lenses for $180 that for the time, was a heck of a deal. Wished Yi would continue in making mirrorless cams but from the price I got mine, it is clear why they couldn't stay in this business. Have a good one.
Markus, thanks for another great video. This video shows great results for MFT system which some people deem as not good. I went to your "Lenses" playlist and I did not saw a video with the best and worst MFT lenses, there is one for APS-C but not for MFT, I would like to watch a video like that with your selection of the best and worst MTF lenses. Edit: yes, there is one of MFT for vlogging but not for pics.
Always love small camera videos, have you tried a Ricoh GR yet? I loved my micro four thirds cameras but ultimately got a Ricoh since its the most pocket able and has an APSC sensor. Great for bringing to sporting events, farmers markets, anywhere really. The GR 2013 model also has a built in flash thats fun to use!
The GR is a very powerful camera. How they jammed an APSC sensor plus IBIS into that body is a miracle. Fixed 28mm lens except for the GRiiiX which is a fixed 40mm lens. No EVF which is a turn off for me. The lens is very sharp. Very crunchy B&W jpeg. Tiny battery means bring more than one with you. Ricoh has stopped taking orders for the GRiii(X). It is getting long in the tooth. Maybe a new model to complete with the X100VI is in the offering. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

The M 200 was picked up on Prime Day for el cheapo. In manual, this has produced some remarkable pictures with a cheap M lens. Very easy to use and the live view is terrific. @@MarkusPix Why didn't you put your CPL filter as the closest one to the lens? I couldn't really see the other filters, but I'd be surprised if it worked like that.
Markus, I have a NX Mini, but didn't realize until after I bought it that the 9-27mm lenses OFTEN fail. Then, as you mentioned, the NX lens adapter is impossible to find for sale. So, I found a company in Belarus making a c-mount adapter, then I got a c-mount to Minolta MD mount adapter on top of that and put my very old Minolta lenses on it. Works well, but all manual. I can still use P, A, S and M. I took out the infrared filter and got a Kolari Vision IR Chrome filter and that's what I use it for now. You wouldn't be giving one of those NX Mini's away anytime soon now would you? I just purchased a GX8 from the local camera store. I use the lenses you mentioned except the voigtlander 17.5mm. This is a very powerful body. When it first came out this body was a flagship camera. Small. Lightweight. Takes lovely stills and video. Hope Panasonic makes a PDAF version. A delightful camera.

Great fun high energy video as always! Thank you Markus!
I bought 2 of the Samsung cameras from watching your videos before because I love small things as well. Now I just have to learn how to use it ha ha. I love all your videos, both channels, thank you so much!!💗💗
I just bought my first M4/3 an Olympus P-E7. I wanted a small 85mm equivalent and this seems about the best way with the 45mm f/1.8. Hopefully no regrets.
Buddy, you have THE GREATEST channel on RUclips! Well done......again
Thanks Bo
You do good work. Don't quit. Don't change.
This man's photography and videograhy is amazing!!!
Yeah the little ones are so much more fun.
This video shows how important light is. With the right light my Gameboy camera makes professional photos.
That NX Mini is awesome! I'm just totally geeking out on all these cool little cameras, Thanks for sharing this Markus.
Man I love your background, all your set looks 80ish. Nice! Good content!
Great video as always. I have two things to say
1) Try the Sony Nex 5t, it's the smallest sony E mount camera and works very well. It's smaller than the a5100 and the smallest of all Sony APSC cameras. It's near the size of the Panasonic GM1 and you can attach an external viewfinder
2) It surprise me that you haven't tried the Fujifilm line. They have small great cameras (XE line and basic XA line). Now they have the XS20 that it's small enough to travel without concern about size. And Fuji have small lenses too
Sony a5100 110 x 63 x 36 mm
Sony Nex-5T 111 x 59 x 39 mm
Fuji: ruclips.net/video/aUbYeOOzExs/видео.html
@@MarkusPix I had it both. The Nex5 T is slimmer except for the bigger grip. It's more comfortable to hold too. It's smaller in height too.
LUMIX G100 I headed over to eBay and found one for about 370 bucks thanks Markus!!!👍👍👍
One of your greatest videos! Thank you!
I love using Olympus Pen E-P3 with 14-42mm
Cool stuff! Love your video exit!!! Have a great week.
My favourite camera Sony RX100MII. Im very pleased with her!
Thanks Mr Pix. Have a good day.
Following your video on GM1 and GM5 I acquired both. I am delighted with the GM5 (because of the EVF). I take it with me everyday at work and use it during lunch break or on the way to the office.
Awesome!
I haven't tried as many as you but my fav is Nikon 1 J5, the only Nikon 1 with 20.8mp sensor 265 grams, touch screen. Love your videos.
Love Micro Four Thirds! A number of the cameras shown are porting the Lumix 12-32mm ƒ/3.5-5.6 ASPH which has stabilisation. Terrific lens to pair with the G1s, and really small.
GM1 w/12-32 collapsed is so very tiny, stabilized, and sharp. camerasize.com/compact/#491.397,ha,t
i love your enthusiasm man, finally a youtuber that embodies the same excitment i have for tiny cameras that come with EVFs.
Edit: if only Samsung made a newer NX mini with a micro four thirds sensor, an EVF, mic in, headphone out & 4K30 recording :/
Thank you so much for sharing your enthusiasm and time!
my pleasure
Great video Markus. You show again, that needs not the greatest, biggest and newest equipment to take great pictures and it’s mostly the photographer and not the gear.
I loved this video!! I have a Lumix G100 that I purchased after a G85 and I'm learning to love it's small size. I've got a collection of MFT lenses and a Nikon to MFT adaptor so I can use my Nikon glass.
Yes MFT is fun!
I hope Panasonic will release one more rangefinder M43 body, but with phase detection on the sensor.
Nobody sits like that rock sits. You rock, rock. The rock just sits and is. You show us how to just sit there, and that's what we need.
markusrothkranz.com/uh_ok.gif
Nice! This video is exactly what I was looking for
I prefer APS-C over M4/3, so I went for a Canon M200 with a 22mm F2.0 just like the one you showed on this video. I really love it. It's so fun to use and is pretty sharp, too!
Thank you Professor Frink
Since your first video on small cameras I've randomly looked for them locally. I did find an EM10 mk3 that was an absolute blast. I seriously struggled to part ways with it.
I currently have the em10 MK3 having previously had a mk 2 and it is a great camera, lets you crop in quite dramatically without losing detail. Only problem for me has been reliability - got through two 14 - 42 pancake kit lenses in less than five years. Now have a manual 14 - 42 to mitigate any further probs.
The GM5 is a unicorn now, so rare - and expensive. I wish Panasonic would update that model. The demand is clearly there given the used prices.
great video! ii love his love for photography and cinematography. .

Been using an a5100 with a 35 mm 1.8 for travel. Good video and great portraits!
Wow! Such positive energy! It makes me want to buy every single one of those cameras! :)
Speaking of which, I'm looking for some compact ones for family and some close up product photography and Panasonic GX85 and Nikon Z50 are some of my options.
Believe it or not, I do most of my close up stuff with my RX100vii pocket camera
@@MarkusPix Thanks Markus! I have an option of Nikon Z50 vs Panasonic GX85 here in Europe and in the USA I could look for Sony RX100 VII. In your opinion, which one would be the best for family stuff and product photography?
GM1. Love it
It’s always comforting to know your only DSLR is on Markus’s favorite list , still working on a better 50 mm lens . Sony a5100 😁 !
I also have light weight G7 and EM10Mii that are also small and fun to use.
I have the NX MIni and took it on safari back in 2014. I got great pictures. I wish I could find the lenses and adapters for it. They’re kinda rare.
I’ve been with Olympus since the 1970s. I’ve tried the others and they all have great performance and features but I’ve always come back to Olympus. I’m waiting for he release of the Olympus Pen F version 2 for the same reasons you point out in this video.
My latest small camera is a like new $80 Olympus EPL-3 silver body. Only 12mp but still good enough and really small with a 17mm prime.
Great Teacher REALLY!! I’m not a pro. Only in my own way. I love taking pictures, just because. Using my phone. Have a Great Day.

Thanks for the overview! The Pentax Q is probably even smaller, but with a much smaller sensor as well.
PentaxQ 98 x 57 x 31 mm (186) Lumix GM1 99 x 55 x 30 mm (184)
Yeah it's cute, but that tiny low rez camcorder sensor is a deal breaker. Compared to Micro four thirds that sensor is a speck. No viewfinder, no touch screen, no face detection, no huge selection of lenses like M43 has, but yes its a cute camera.
I enjoy your video's so much, thanks!
Thank you cool banana boy
Some wonderful cameras! Fun to use is important! Maybe consider the small OM 5 as well? That said, My favorite travel and hiking camera is the rx1007. Can’t change the lens, but such great range in a small package! Just wish it was waterproof, but when needed that usually means I use an action camera.
Yes I take two RX100vii with me on every trip. That's my main vlog camera ruclips.net/video/0_5lQpXmyLg/видео.html
and ruclips.net/video/yPxhmpzBABo/видео.html
New best video, thank you so much for great content
You’ve been to Vienna! Hope you liked it! Cheers & Schnitzel!
That red GM-5 is like rocking horse **** in the UK. I've managed to get hold of one, but you very rarely see it on the UK market.
How do you like your Yi (Y1M1) and did you buy the kit along with extra 45mm lens?
It seems as though when the Lumix GX9 was discontinued it has been almost impossible to find the small rangefinder type micro 4/3 bodies.
I❤my Gm5 w/ LEICA 15 mm f1. 7, it's Super light weight Camera for traveling
I love my R8 + rf16 +rf50 + rf28 (preordered) in a triangle sling bag 3Lt with battery handle grip, nd, lavalier and some spare sd cards and reader.
I've done quite a few videos on MFt lenses ruclips.net/video/0eDOCAokkko/видео.html
and ruclips.net/video/vj2eji4ms5A/видео.html etc
Always love small camera videos, have you tried a Ricoh GR yet? I loved my micro four thirds cameras but ultimately got a Ricoh since its the most pocket able and has an APSC sensor. Great for bringing to sporting events, farmers markets, anywhere really. The GR 2013 model also has a built in flash thats fun to use!
The Ricoh is not an interchangeable lens camera.
@@MarkusPix true but have you tried it? Thoughts?
@@mykeljewellMarkus loves his rx100 mk7 for fixed lens camera. That's the answer
@@MarkusPixTrue, but was just curious if you had used it.

Many thanks for your fun comprehensive videos. Your fun personality along with Cara’s cadence really makes learning from you guys a treat. I like small cameras and its one of the reasons I’ve remained in the m43 system. I’m mainly a Lumix shooter but i’m becoming fond of Olympus or OM camera bodies. I like the flash choice and now i’m looking for those stands you have in your camera bag. I’ll dig up one of your videos regarding stands. I’m quite sure you’ve done a video on them. Thanks for all you guys do...
Yes. There's actually a whole playlist on stands and tripods on this channel
@@MarkusPix Currently viewing and thanks
The M 200 was picked up on Prime Day for el cheapo. In manual, this has produced some remarkable pictures with a cheap M lens. Very easy to use and the live view is terrific. The 5100 while good in its own right was good, but the Canon IMHO killed the 5100. Also a big fan of Olympus and a really big fan of my Lumix GF7. Purchased for around 100 Washingtons. Bargain of the year!
I love your content, you are an inspiration for me and my proyects.
Update. Now I own 2 of these NX Minis. I love them! I use them for most of my RUclips videos. I still need to find the 17mm lens. I have the 9mm and the zoom lens now.
👍
id like to have one of those nx500, I currently have a canon c300, but its heavy and I don't have a strong enough tripod to use it all the time like I want, I'm an artist and love the stuff I have so much, keep on keeping on!!!!!!
Value....has been added!
Great personality, Markus. I just saw that clip image and thought: The Saul Goodman of the camera world. Keep up your impressing work. Greetings from Switzerland.
Love these compact sizes u will bring out anytime without complaints! Thanks Markus 🫶
I think you and Gavin hooey are keeping micro 4/3 alive. Haha.
Awesome. I feel like a Champagne colour a5100 might be my next camera, already love the white one, unfortunatly they never sold them here.
M43 is just enough.
Amazing 🤩
I have about half your camera's you must spend all your time charging the buggers up!
Just got the Olympus em10 11 and I am in love again with the stabilizer and looks, my manual lenses are jumping like jumping beans shouting "put me on !"
Simply awesome, Markus! I'm so surprised the Olympus won it because you haven't really said that many good things about them. You might actually prefer the E-M10 iv as it's the same size, but it's lighter, has a faster sync, great colors, 20MP, flip-up and down screen and great video.
It didn't "WIN", its not my favorite, its just the one I happened to have in my bag the last week
@@MarkusPix I love how you don't make a competition. A real free man.
@@MarkusPix Why didn't you put your CPL filter as the closest one to the lens? I couldn't really see the other filters, but I'd be surprised if it worked like that.
@@imagenaturathe other filter is an ND filter, and it makes absolutely no difference what order they are in.
@@StephenStrangways Nope. It does matter. Look it up. CPL goes closest to the lens.
No Olympus EP1? Was the world coming to!!!
Would love to get my hands on either the 9mm or 16mm fixed lens so I don't have the same issues with another broken zoom.
Awesome video Markus!! The NX Minis look sweet. I need to find one. 🙂
I wish smartphone nowdays have that's Quality
