In December 6 in American Time, 7 in European Time and 8 in Asian Time, I am looking forward some of the great performances around Europe to see Anna Netrebko in Tosca at Wiener Staatsoper, and a concert in La Scala - if this is available for viewing, I'll do my best to share contents with you, but I heard that they will radio broadcast it so, I hope there will be a Satellite Telecast of this concert.
This certain video, I'll post here link of Tosca and Concert in La Scala soon, and I am looking a video in Bayerische of their past performance to share with you if I have a chance to record it, I have 2 strikes so I can't upload it here, that's all for now. Definatly not an aria I would expect from Damrau. Good effort, she was brave enough to give it a go! Brava.
I agree on this at least she tried at her best and will never do the role. Trolls of "OlD ScHooL SInGiNg" always tore her down and I never understand, they are the most toxic community ever.

I’m no opera expert but I loved it and that is what counts. You’re the poorer one for not getting any enjoyment out of it. Those looking to criticise will always find something to complain about
@@stonesinmyblood27 It's not a complaint, it is an observation. I happen to be a fan of Damrau and get great pleasure from her performances. I stand by my statement that I did not expect Damrau to sing this aria (no negatives in that). I quite enjoy hearing performers singing arias that are unexpected from their 'usual rep'. As always music is subject to the listeners ears, if you enjoyed it (which I did as well) then that is great!
I love her voice and the way she sings bel canto so much! And I an just grateful to hear such an amazing singer who loves her job so much, and loves to bring music to us! Especially in this hard times, thank you and Brava Diana Damrau!

I don’t know what happened to her voice. Her glassy, high coloratura just disappeared overnight it seems.

It happens. Damrau was heavily booked since 2005. She just sang and sang abs sang. Essentially a Mozart and Baroque singer she took on heavier more articulated coloratura roles and it just wore her sound out. A root it is a a narrow, feathery middle, high glassy type of coloratura soprano. She really went as far as she could with repertoire and the Bel canto has been variable as the color is pale despite her assertiveness. NOW… it is rather aged, yet she can still turn out an elegant line. The technique has always been a bit pinched at the top and the middle light. In many ways the aspirated middle voice has worn out the voice. It would be interested if she is going to round out the middle and addresses this or keep blowing through it all till it goes old lady throughout. She hides from D’s & E’s these days. Curious career. This rendition was professional and not entirely centered with some dumb ass variants. However we are used to that with Rossini.
Ich fand Edita Gruberova in dieser Rolle wunderbar und im Belcanto wird man so eine Sängerin ihresgleichen auch nicht mehr finden was sehr schade ist.

It actually want to hear Damrau in this role. Hopefully she can sing the duets with Arsace at some point.
D. Damrau seems to have lost her upper extension (no traditional High-Es in the middle section or/and at the end) but it is lovely. I would not consider her as a Rossinian singer though.

I don’t like this... she got wobbly and she can barely sing a high C at the end... she has gone too far with wrong repertoire (she sang TOSCA at the met show). Tbh, I don’t think she has ever had a great technique

She sounds terrible. If you can’t tell, at least look up her performances ten yrs ago then you should be able to see the problems in techniques, mannerisms, and everything.

Of couse I prefer listening her in German repertoire, her sense of bel canto is not good enought, but we can see how much her voice matured in technical terms. Her voice gains a darker color, and her interpretations are always beautiful an rich in fellings.

I never liked the "soubrette" quality of her voice, but seeing her perform live is thrilling and inspiring, to say the least. Oddly, she doesn't even go up to the high E most sopranos insert.

She, in my opinion is the ultimate coloratura soprano.
Well, she used to be a great singer (like 10 years ago I've heard her Gilda in Vienna, was also at MET premiere of Comte Ory, and she was superb). But in concert evening in 2019, I've heard some problems... She should be carefull what she sings. Not Semiramis for sure.
Nobody can stay a pure soubrette/coloratura forever. At least she knows her voice and doesn't go and sing Turandot and Elsa like somebody else lol

@@ThisisColoratura 🙄 singing a high D does not make ANY singer a “coloratura”. Gina Cigna sings a high D in the Met broadcast of the Norma trio, as does Suliotis on her Decca Norma recording. Leontyne Price sings D in the Thaïs mirror aria, Eb in Traviata Act 1 finale and high E (!!!!) at the end of caro nome. None of these women were “coloraturas”. Dorothy Kirsten sings high D in Romany Life and 2 D’s in Thaïs finale. She wasn’t a “coloratura” either. Whatever Miss Damrau IS at this point in her career, this performance was a misfire. It’s unsteady and labored. She should have sung O luce di quest’anima instead.

I was a "successful" dramatic tenor, and I'm here to tell you that this is absolutely hideous, especially to watch. What in the Lord's name is she trying to convey?? Joy, Insanity???
If you watch her sing, you see she focuses everything very forward in the front nasal cavities rather than a little further back. Gruberova damaged her voice in a similar way. Listen to Mariella Devia singing circles around her into her late 60s and early 70s with solid high Ds and Es. Watch how differently Devia sings it. Their repertoire overlapped, both singing Lucia, Lakme, Queen of the Night, Constanza etc. Roberta Peters also sang well into her early 60s. However many times as women especially go through menopause it can affect the voice 😊

The high E is interpolated not written. She was smart to omit it. I believe with the right teacher or coach she could sing much better. Mariella Devia could teach her properly 😊

I also don’t like how Damrau startes out this aria when she sings the words of the title of this aria, it sounds so low energy, and nit near as good as many singers that came before her. Just listen to Joan Suthetland, june Anderson, or Cecila Bartoli sing this, just some singers that came to mind right away.

This is really horrendous. First, the stage attitude...whatever she sings, she does it like a Zerlina after she's taken a pill of ecstasy. Secondly, there's pitch problems even from start. The coloratura runs are messy, and the variations are completely out of style. She should not sing Rossini.

Thank you for your informative comments. They are a true blessing, many of these young singers or singers from Damrau’s generation are singing the wrong repertoire for their voices and are often butchering opera.
