I literally just fixed every single leak in my engine. Rocker cover, sump, rear main, oil filter adapter. I parked on my driveway for the first time I 3 years with no oil leaks! 2 days later, my diff starts leaking! Jeep life 😂😂
For those that don't have an understanding how crush sleeves actually work - After replacing your pinion seal simply re-torque the pinion nut to around 125 foot pounds. That is sufficient torque and not enough to further crush any sleeve...you are right back to where you began.
Nice video, tip is to lay wheel bearing grease into the seal lips before installing the yoke (or seating the seal). That grease will block grit from entry into the outer seal lip, prolonging the seal life. There is also (often) an oil slinger behind the yoke, in front of the front bearing, and this piece of junk sheet metal will help stop oil pressure from pushing on the rear of the seal.. Recall that the oil in the diff is being slung to the front, as the carrier and ring gear revolves, much like a paddlewheel boat, paddling oil to the front. I did not see an oil slinger in front of your forward pinion bearing.
Ugh.... I marked everything....got the new seal installed without any difficulty....but the yoke has some grooves in it after 250 000 miles. I bought a new one...the measurements seem EXACTLY the same...within 1/10 of a mm....I am going to put the nut back on with the same number of threads showing PLUS about 1/10th of a turn to compensate for old bearings...and keep my fingers crossed ! Here goes..... (1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 6 cyl 250 000 miles) Great video BTW ! THANX !
This video was very easy to follow. The down side was from RUclips. it comes up when searching for the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. In the case of the 2007 the seal has to be replaced from the in side of the housing. RUclips and the search engines need to work on their accuracy.

Is this the Dana 35? My 97 grand cherokee needs both pinion seals replaced and I'm wondering if it's something i can so myself. If it's this easy I should be able to but I'm not sure if it's the same axle?

Im wanting to take out axles, housing an all out of my 2000 cherokee and replace it with another complete housing axels an all.unbolt u bolts drop it all. What modal jeeps will inner change. I know i have a Dana 30 in the front and its good and a Dana 35 in the rear thats bad.. My rear gear ratio is 355. What other jeep rear ends will inner change and i will be ok with my front end dana 30
A lot of them will swap some people with larger than stock tires go to the 8.8 ford axles from explorers or Chrysler 8.25 axles as an upgrade if your sticking with 32inch tires or smaller you can stick with a dana35 or upgrade to the other 2 I mentioned. Make sure the axle you pick one that has 3.55's though. I am not sure about how much work to swap to the other 2 axle upgrades either but I am sure it isn't to bad of a job.
So I got a 96 inline 6 high output country and I went to O'Riley's to get the seal that goes into the back of the transmission and I guess he keeps giving me the axle seal I'm about to give em hell
What about changing the bearings? how do you tell if they are bad? Can you hear it? I'm hearing a wing sound pitch get higher when I speed up and lower when I slow down. Adding gear oil didn't help....it just ran out the seal and left a trail down the street. So...if it's the bearing the differential cover plate will have to come off, everything cleaned up and axles pulled out. I'm thinking the bearing has to be removed from the rear side. My. Question is.....Can I do this in my driveway and do I need any special tools. Dude....like uh....I have to do this myself.
+David Hefner if you have the 8.25 it's a little tricky to work with you need a special tool if you never done anything with a front end or a rear end I would find a buddy or take it to a shop taking it apart is easy putting it back together is the fun part has to be just right

If your under 250lbs pulling 1 shoulder of the ground is plenty = 1 uga with no dugga… if your 110lbs soaking wet and have diabetic shakes at the moment both shoulders off the ground = 1 uga with no dugga...
To change a bearing properly you have to change the bearing race with it. Which means full tear-down and rebuild the axle. Why would he do that for a leaking seal?
