Breastfeeding was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. The first 6 months were definitely a challenge. The first two months were full of tears and IBCLC visits. We’re going on 16 months now and I’m so extremely happy that I stuck it out. It’s exhausting but worth it.

Hi, Sarah! I live in a country where births in state hospitals are traumatic for most women. I gave birth naturally while nurses were screaming and telling me that if I wanted this baby, take it and shut the f up. It was a very painful birth and extremely traumatic. Now I'm pregnant again and decided to give birth in a private hospital but I am so scared and remember my labour pain and all that horrible experience like it was yesterday. Thank you for all your work and dedication. If more nurses were like you, the world would be a better place.

I asked the question about naturally inducing labor because I was worried that my scheduled medicated induction (May 5th) would leave me in the hospital for such a long time, and I was so over being pregnant. I ended up getting an earlier induction, and am watching this next to my 3 day old!

I’ve been watching all your videos so I can support my daughter. Thank you for all your all hard work and educational videos.
I thought I’d mention something that I always found interesting. My mom is 91 and couldn’t breastfeed. Almost no one of her generation could breastfeed. I’ve always thought that it was interesting that that’s when commercial formula was really coming out and the medical society told mothers that it could provide optimal nutrition for their infants. I definitely feel that breastfeeding is a personal choice, but have always found it interesting how businesses can sway the medical industry.

We had two true knots and one was wrapped around her neck. Definitely scary her heart rate kept dropping when I pushed but I had an amazing l&d nurse who told me to pull on this towel and she came out within seconds. Those first few minutes were super scary she was alert and blinking but not crying for about a minute (felt like forever) but staff sprung into action to warm her up she cried and then was rushed to NICU for observation. Overall everything was okay but a close call and we got lucky.

My husband and I are talking about getting pregnant again and I had a pretty traumatic birth with my first and i am TERRIFIED to have a vaginal birth again. I’ve decided that when time come I’ll have a scheduled C section. But the kind of comments i get from other people (not my husband) about my decision really bother me. (Most comments are like “why would you do that it can cause XYZ.”) So to hear you say that it’s completely okay is so comforting.

Question is my last birth was a precipitous labor. I caught my own daughter in my living room all by myself. Contractions didn't even last 2 hours and birth was 45 minutes after water breaking. Should I just plan on a home birth this time? Is there any way I'd even make it out of my driveway let alone the hospital If each subsequent birth is supposed to go faster? Breastfeeding answer... when you say you can only get 1 or 2 oz of breastmilk per day . With me i was never able to pump more then that but my baby was able to nurse all day . Sometimes its just the pump that doesnt work with you but the baby does . Puting the baby to the breast as much as possible and drinking water is so important . Me and my son have had our struggles but we are 13months and going strong . Wish for the best for all of you . ❤️ love the videos sarah lavonne thank you .

I had a question for next time!
If I had to be induced due to gestational hypertension (no pre-e and had no issues until my 38 week appointment) will I have to be induced for my next baby? Is there something that can be done to keep bp from going up at the end of pregnancy? Is it true or false that having an anterior placenta can cause high bp?
    Thank you!!!

Hello Sarah, I love your videos! I am 2nd time pregnant and I feel like I could use a lot of it 1st time around.. Is there a way to check the baby's head position before water braking? With my 1st birth they broke my waters and it turned out baby was 'looking up'. I am not sure if they told me this before or after breaking my waters but I feel like if I gave it time, he could still turn inside and not end up with vacuum intervention.

    Coffee & questions please help!
Hi Sarah! I’ve watched your videos for years and when I became pregnant with our baby girl I felt like a pro with all the knowledge you’ve given💕
But here’s my situation, I am 39 weeks +2 days pregnant really wanted an induction at 39 weeks but my hospital is unfortunately not doing elective inductions until I reach 41 weeks. I have not naturally dilated at all so my doctor did a manual dilation enough to place a cook ballon. I kept it in for 18 hours at 80mL it got me from not dilated at all to 3.5cm overnight& My cervix is 80% effaced. I lost my mucus plug and got my bloody show after the balloon. This was now 2 days ago. With all this being said I am still not having any contractions nor am I feeling any progress. What does this mean and how can I help my body along when it obviously doesn’t want to do anything naturally. I’m feeling defeated☹️

My son had a true knot. They lost his heartbeat on the monitor as I was pushing and he was born (ejected) as they were prepping the OR for an emergency C-section (with general anesthesia). He ended up being fine but it was a scary few minutes for sure. I even have a picture of the knot as his dad was cutting the cord.

Currently 35w 4d and learning so much from you!
What advice would you give to someone who keeps being told that they’re showing signs of pre eclampsia by one doctor or midwife and then someone else is saying its fine and sending you home?
I haven’t been feeling well for weeks and weeks and have been back to the hospital countless times. One minute they’re saying oh you might deliver the baby over Easter and the next the doctor was saying that ALL of my symptoms were in my head. Right down to the protein in my urine and my oxygen saturation levels being low. He said that because I fled my abusive and violent boyfriend back at the end of October that all the “symptoms” are just in my head and I’m an attention seeking hypochondriac!
I have put in a complaint about him but having only two options of hospitals I can give birth at (im in the uk) they doctors work at both sites so I could end up seeing him again.
It’s making some so anxious that that’s what they think of me (like I can somehow cheat medical tests and blood tests). I know my own body and know something isn’t right but they won’t listen to me at all.

I have a few questions. I experienced PPROM with my first at 34 weeks. I called my doctors office and told them I think my water broke and they said I was fine and that discharge increases at 34 weeks. I walked around for a whole week while leaking. Finally I trusted my instinct and went to labor and delivery which prompted antibiotics and Pitocin. I was on Pitocin for 30 hours. I hemorrhaged really badly after and experienced retained placenta. I lost 2.5L. I almost had an emergency hysterectomy. They tried shots to control bleeding, suppositories, and a balloon which finally worked. My uterus would not contract to cut off the blood vessels. So my questions are: 1. Should I consider a new provider? 2. Should I aim for a vaginal or C-section for my next births and 3. What are my chances for having PPROM and hemorrhaging again?

Mama of 3 here, 2 c-sections, 1 technically successful vbac followed by emergency surgery due to uterine rupture. The general rule of thumb is 18 months to conceive again but does that change if your uterus has already ruptured? I know that no one can say for sure but it's scary to think about cause it could cost me and/or my baby our lives. We know we want one more but are still working through the trauma a year later. Thoughts?

My most recent labor I ONLY felt contraction in my thighs the entire time. Had an anterior placenta but baby was head down facing my back. It just felt like leg cramps that would come and go and grow with intensity as labor progressed. Literally felt nothing in my abdomen or back the entire labor, just my thighs. Been wondering ever since what might have caused that or been the reason. 🤔
As a sidenote, I do progress quickly. First labor was under 6.5hrs from contractions start to delivery with the majority of the cervical change happening rapidly in the last 2hrs (jumped from a 1 to a 6 in an hour, reached a 10 about 30min later). This more recent labor was 6.5hrs from when I realized I was contracting to delivery but thankfully slower cervical change (arrived to the hospital at a 6, delivered about 2hrs later). Mostly curious about this thigh labor because had I never heard of such a thing and my OB has told me that I am not to labor at home in any future pregnancies because of how fast I can progress. Not currently pregnant or TTC baby #3 for a while but trying to avoid risking a potential roadside delivery in the future 😬🤞

Lord willing and baby flips (currently breeched, but so was #2 until 37w), I am determined to labor at home as long as possible and go without an epidural since I was induced with the other two, both at 41w and 0 dilation/effacement. I have a 4 and 2 year old at home. At what point in the laboring would you recommend I have someone come pick up my other two very active boys so I can focus? For reference, my first induction was 27+ hours (20 hours active labor), and my second was 11.5 hours (about 3 hours of active labor).

Q1. Does oxytocin and prolactin (caused by feeding) suppress Progesterone levels. My therapist mentioned I had low progesterone level when I visited for my therapy. can this be the reason to my miscarriages (full details below)👇
Q2. explain blighted ovum miscarriage in detail.
    Information on my situation 👇
I'm breastfeeding 20 mnt old she has about 6-8 feeds still along with breakfast lunch n dinner. I'm weaning her off soon but I'm curious.
I have had 3 miscarriages 2 which I know were empty sacs, I visited my health therapist for a reflexology massage n Needling to let the miscarriage happen naturally by alerting the brain of the miscarriage through the above. That went fantastic n I passed the sac that evening with a few hour of contractions n labour pains.
I'm expecting after weaning toddler n recovering completely from covid 👍

⁉️🙋🏻‍♀️Follow up question based on the original question based on baby pushing itself out… so it seems as if as soon as mama hits 10cm, they come in and start pushing… does this fetal ejection reflex come after being at at 10cm for a little longer? Are doctors telling mom to push too early? It just seems as if the goal should be to wait on the fetal ejection reflex? -first time mama, 32 weeks 💕

I had my first baby (boy) two months ago. I ended up having an emergency c section after 16 hours of labor bc he was OP and was in fetal distress due to the hard contractions.... I wanted to exclusively breast feed but and tried hard was even put on medication to help with let downs, but each time I pumped, I would only produce an once total (from both sides and would pump anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour). My son would nurse for up to an hour, be super fussy and then take a bottle like he was starving.... my doctor thinks that bc of my c section, my body didn't produce the amount of milk I needed. Why is this? Also if I have another c section, will my body do the same thing and not produce enough milk? What can I do in the future to help with this? -Brooke

Hi, I had a very similar birth to yours. What helped me was relaxing when I tried to latch my baby on my breast. Staying hydrated drinking lots of liquids for example coconut water and body armor and I had oatmeal with berries and nuts for breakfast or a healthy complete breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, snack on healthy snacks. And 10-20 minutes after I tried breastfeeding I would pump for 10 minutes to keep my body producing milk and it slowly but surely helped my milk come in. It was a lot of work but that really helped me.

What kind of school do you need to be in to be a doula or midwife?

Just wanted to add to the breastfeeding question - she's using measurements so is obviously going off what she gets during pumping, which isn't the same as feeding your baby. Baby is far more effective at removing milk from the breast in most cases. I breastfed my daughter for 3 years but could only get a few mls when I pumped. So don't rely on what a pump is telling you, rely on what baby is telling you. Satisfied, plenty of wet/dirty nappies, weight gain etc.

Is it possible for a body to not produce enough oxytocin naturally to trigger labor?

About 2 to 3 in 10 babies (20 to 30 percent) with a single umbilical artery have health problems, including heart, kidney or digestion problems and genetic conditions. This means that most babies with a single umbilical artery have no health problems
