The riffs are from the late great often underated guitarist Gary Richtath, R.I.P🙏✌️
Woefully under celebrated, our Mr. Richrath. Truly a Rock n' Roll guitarist!
Hey my friend, the band name is called R.E.O. Speedwagon. This is my all-time song from them.💕🎶🦋
Hey my friend, it's my favorite song from them too!!!
"You can Tune a Piano, but you can't Tuna Fish"
Yes
Yet another song to remind me how lucky I was, growing up at a time when we heard music like this every single day!
Yep... Every single day was a Musical Adventure and we loved every minute of those days.
Every single day, all day long.
Time for an REO history lesson. They were formed in 1967 at the University of Illinois in Champaign. The keyboard player with the wicked organ solo, Neal Doughty, was one of the founding members who came up with the name in his history of transportation class. The original REO Speedwagon was a truck from the early 1900's that was one of the first heavy duty trucks with speed and power mostly used as a fire truck. The hellish guitar solo was played by the great late Gary Richrath. The drum tracks were laid down by another original member Alan Gratzer. The lead singer who is still with the band is Kevin Cronin the voice behind all the power ballad hits from the 80's like Keep On Lovin You and Can't Fight This Feelin both number one hits. This song was from 1978 album called You Can Tune A Piano But You Can't Tuna FIsh.. The harder rock songs were from the 70's and include must listens such as Golden Country, Keep Pushin, Riding The Strom Out(live version) Time For Me To Fly, Back On The Road Again (Sung by the bass player Bruce Hall). Their biggest hits were from the 80's and were more pop. The biggest album was Hi Infidelity from 1981(album of the year) with 4 top 40 hits including Keep On Lovin You, and the fantastic Take It On The Run (#5). Great all American Rock band still on the road playing to sold out venues all over the country. Most of their songs are about feeling better and fighting through the tough times in life and love. Start down the REO rabbit hole and enjoy the ride.
Damn!!! Thank you so much for this information! WOW I was wondering if the REO had something to do with the semi REO! Thank you!! 🥳🕺🕺
Very nice breakdown. Thank you for the info.
R.E.O. Speedwagon..... Ransom Eli Olds was a pioneer of the American automotive industry, after whom the Oldsmobile and REO brands were named. He claimed to have built his first steam car as early as 1887 and his first gasoline-powered car in 1896. The REO Speed Wagon (alternatively Reo Speedwagon) was a light motor truck model manufactured by REO Motor Car Company. It is an ancestor of the pickup truck.
Its like REO was having a " jam" session and invited us all in. Not only did we have fun, we also "rolled with some changes." I think im still " rolling with the changes" better now that ive heard this song again. Nice reaction and you got the message to " roll on."
The band name is pronounced R-E-O Speedwagon. R E O are the initials for the auto maker Ransom Eli Olds, founder of the Oldsmobile car company.
Tempo changes, multiple guitars, keyboards, other instruments-Sax-Violin-Flute-Horns, great drumming/percussion are all the main ingredients for a Classic Rock Band.
The late Gary Richrath on guitar 🎸 👌. Awesome
"I Had No Clue".... I knew it was going to happen with the quality content you produce. I've been smiling the whole way with you from less than 500 subs. You've earned everyone of us.
This is their best song. Gary Ricrath (RIP) really lit up the world with this one. Those were the days! And thank you for not interrupting. 😊❤
The whole album is fantastic in my opinion
R-E-O Speedwagon. If you want to be blown away check out their live version of Riding the Storm Out!
Had the album...."you can tune a piano but you can't tuna fish!"....hats off Kevin Cronin....
That is some of finest guitar work ive ever heard. REO was no joke
I got to see REO in Indianapolis in 79 at the old Market Square Arena..They played alot of this album and all the Classics that REO has produced..Blackfoot opened for them..that was a kickass open...
REO Speedwagon, or simply REO, is an American rock band from Champaign, Illinois. Formed in 1967, the band cultivated a following during the 1970s and achieved significant commercial success throughout the 1980s. REO Speedwagon has sold more than 40 million records and charted 13 Top 40 hits, including the number ones "Keep On Loving You" and "Can't Fight This Feeling". Today the members are: Neal Doughty-Keyboards..Kevin Cronin- Lead Vocals/Guitars...Bruce Hall-Bass Guitar...Dave Amato- Lead Guitars... Bryan Hitt- Drums
They played at the Red Lion and Chances R bars in Champaign, IL.
Congratulations!!! You deserve it. I'm sure you will gain more and more as time goes along. R.E.O. was huge back in the day.
Tons of big hits also. Try "Riding The Storm Out," "Keep Pushing." They have slow ballads also including "Keep On Loving You."
This is one of my favorites. When that organ solo comes in it just puts the cherry on top of already a great song.
The band is R,E.O. Speedwagon, each of the letters said seperate.Neal Doughty on keyboards and Alan Gratzer on drums started the band while in college.Gary Richrath on lead guitar and backing vocals, but did sing lead on a few of their songs.Kevin Cronin on lead vocals was a good singer and played piano and rythym guitar at times,Bruce Hall on bass after original bassist Gregg Philbin left. This is when REO rocked and not a pop ballad band like Cronin wanted.Neal was great on keyboards, and Gary showed what he could do on guitar here.Check out 'Golden Country' live ,the video with Gary wearing a red and black striped shirt to see how great he was on guitar and engaging the crowd. In that video Cronin does a lot to get the attention on himself instead of Gary.I loved these guys when they rocked.Always could count on great vocals, guitar, drums and keyboards from them in the '70's and early '80's.Thank you for this reaction.
You do such an excellent breakdown of your song reactions! REO Speedwagon was another great back in the late 70s into the 80s. Lots of hits and great songs to ponder. Keep on rocking! 🤟
You know what this means.... CRANK IT UP!... Spark Up My Pipe, Hit the drum kit... Thanks again
REO was fire in the 70's, especially in 1977 the year I graduated. They were one of my favorite groups with the exception of Boston.
R E O Speedwagon, I just seen them in concert in Dubuque Iowa outside the Dubuque Casino on the Mississippi River in 2017 i believe. Theywere in Cedar Rapids again about a year ago. They are in Iowa a lot. They're from the Quad City area.
Heard this in 7th grade for the first time and was blown away. Then came Time for Me to Fly and was even more blown away! Loved these guys.
I got to see them in Colorado in Boulder in 1979 possibly 80 I can’t remember for sure.
This is what I grew up listening to young what a great time is was.
Amen
Are EEE OOOHH Speed Wagon R. E. O. Speed Wagon, a truck Manufacturer in the 20's thru the 40's. Some of the best classical rocking boogie music ever. During their concerts they could easily extend this song out for 20 minutes or more to the pleasure of the audience.
Ridin' The Storm Out...
I just love seeing that big grin on your face when you’re really enjoying a song! Keep up the great reactions!
Just more of the upbeat happy feeling solid rock&roll music from back in the day.
Great reaction!
Time For Me To Fly is one of their best songs. It's why i have my eagle tattoo. My freedom
Keep Pushin is another good one.
" Take it on the Run "
This band is out of the Chicago area. I remember seeing them at the Armory in Racine, WI and get a load of this. FOR FREE!!!! Oh that wasn’t a choir, it was all the band members.
Speaking of Keep Pushing... that is another good song by REO...
Along with some of their other tunes among the most energetic rock tunes of all time!
That would be a Hammond B3 Organ. A staple instrument in many Classic Rock Bands. My friend John Zov ("I Care About You" song) can burn and cause flames on one of them.
Great reaction! Thanks, JM! Congratulations on reaching 20K! ✌💙✌
Thank you!!
Add another great Classic Rock band to your awesome Playlist and your folder on my desktop. This was suggested back in Sept 23. Glad you got around to it.
Yes, they're well into their 60's plus
Tough Guys, a fun REO song
What a banger, great band and, of course, a great reaction. Keep climbing that ladder, bro! 😁
Same band....157 Riverside Ave...live
We were Wild Boys in the Great North Woods...Back then we had giant speakers and old Sansui amps set up around the bonfire for big summer night bashes..saw a Lot of bottles get smashed to this tune! Hot Summer Night by Meatloaf was another big glass breaker too..oh, yeah..barefoot girls dancin' in the moonlight (check out Green River by Credence)...
Happy Sunday y'all ! Great reaction to a great song ! Thank you 😊
Rock In Peace Gary Richrath.
Kevin Cronin and Ian Anderson.... I think they would both smile at your assessment of them.... I did, and agree.
Ransom Eli Olds, a 1915 truck
Back on the road again is a great one
REO Speedwagon was a truck manufactured 1915-1935 by the REO Motorcar Co.
This is in my top ten songs of all time. I don't get why the song isn't a bigger hit than it was. One of the best high energy song in rock n roll history.
I wore out 2-8 tracks, one cassette and an LP I have since bought a new copy of the album which I play frequently.
I"m sorry, I wrote it as REO, not R.E.O. They have a bunch of other epic songs!
Following on @Scott_celt, I lived 20 min. away from Champaign. I was in high school from 1967-1970 at Rantoul H. S. and REO played a show/dance at our school between 67 and 69. I can't remember the exact year. Age . I'm 71.
Great song! But if you want to hear a song with such energy that it makes "Roll" seem sedate, check out Say You Love Me or Say Goodnight. Epic key / guitar / sax combo solo!
Time for me to fly is another along with many great songs by them.
Great song
great band!
And still playing full time.
Next you need to do Riding The Storm Out. Live version.
Great, great, GREAT tune! Glad you liked it, and thank you!
He sings another song, Keep Pushin, you should check that out too
REO Speedwagon was the name of a car....
This whole album is really great. I suggest "Time for Me To Fly" as a great song especially the lyrics. Thanks
richrath-AMAZING
Anything from their live album "You Get What You Play For" is good -- especially "Golden Country", "RIdin' the Storm Out", or as others have mentioned, "Keep Pushin'". This was unfortunately another group that had a great rock sound in the 70s driven by their guitarist Gary Richrath, but later switched over to more of a power ballad style.
Try Gary Richraft flying turkey trot live REO Speed wagon guitar solo and golden country government protest song early 70 s
Some songs I know I do not like it the first time I heard it and the last time, and every time in between. (the ones I don't comment on)....This is NOT one of those songs. Love it every time.
Just subbed. Ya do some cool reactions my My Man!! Keep um up
R....E....O.... Speedwagon.
Please check out REO Speedwagon's long way home and keep the fire burning. ❤️❤️❤️ Great songs.
LOVE YOU MAN, PLEASE REACT TO FULL POWER OF REO, LIKE THIS SONG..."LET HIM GO" ...please do not drive or operate heavy equipment while listening! 😂❤
Not one of my favorite bands but they did do a couple of my fave songs. I love this one but check out "Riding The Storm Out" and "Time For Me To Fly"
❤️❤️❤️
🔥🔥🔥
Hey, Jarvis, if you continue with the high quality content you're going to exceed 50,000 Subs by this time next year, and I will have a few hundred more great tunes in your folder to share with your brilliant comments.
💯🔥
☮️💙💙💙🔥🔥😎
Try"Riding the Storm Out" live.🤟🤟🤟🤟👍
It's r.e.o. speedwagon. R e.o. stands ransom Eli olds... it's fire truck 😊
Gary Richrath was a beast on guitar shame drugs got in the way!
he said 'Ian Andersonesque' ...subscribed a boomer
It’s R E O
(Are - Eee - Oh)
Speedwagon
But that’s okay.
You’re not the only reactor to get it wrong.
I think you are good. Listen to Earth wind and fire.. fantasy then Leonid and friends fantasy. Blow your socks off
Everyone new makes the same mistake you made so no harm no foul. Us Gen X kids knew how to pronounce the name because radio DJ's said their name many times over the air when the band was new and big. Pronounced with the initials R.E.O like the alphabet. Are Eee Oh. (R.E.O) Speedwagon. It was the name of an old school truck.
This is an awesome song and I/m not really a fan of theirs in general
You should watch the LIVE performance video from Live Aid
It might even be better than the studio version
Challenge
Listen to this, and not react to it next... lol
REO- Being Kind
ruclips.net/video/DIuikSeDTUQ/видео.html
Golden Country is another "should not go thru life not hearing" REO tune... lol
There was no chior, all band
It’s not pronounced RIO… ladders are said separately…R…E…O
This is a great mood booster, and promotes a keep on keeping on attitude in me, always
Definitely check out the 1985 Live Aid performance of this song. Absolutely incredible when some very cool guest singing backup. And I have to say it again-love your enthusiasm.
R.E.O. was the initials of Ransom Eli Olds, who would eventually go on to create the Oldsmobile. Great cars.
