Sure would be great to see a video on the five gallon seeutek without the thumper reason being is because I have the one without the thumper and cannot find anything
Look up thumper box. You fill it about 3/4 full either with what you are distilling or wanting to use to add flavor. Using the big pot for boiling water you don't have to worry about temperature control ass much. I believe if you go too high in temperatures you can make alcohol that's not as good or possibly bad for you. Steam into middle pot doesn't raise the over what's wanted.
Use too much heat on your big pot and you'll get water vapor in your alcohol and have a low proof liquor. Also, if you get it to hot, you can scorch your run and ruin it
@@darthnihilus3447 temperature for sugar Wash to the still is 160c 180c so aim between these. Higher then 180c it will burn or alcohol will have water in it and have lower volume of alcohol. Below 160c it will spit and have no drips or drips which will come out slowly and take ages to finish. The middle thumper pan can also be used at the same time as the boiling pot at 3/4 full of sugar Wash or for flavor as eg. Blackberry mash , grapes mash etc . I use mine as 4.5 gallon of sugar Wash the thumper 3/4 sugar Wash at 175c which will double still into 100% pure alcohol. If I'm making a coconut & mint flavoured 70cl bottle of alcohol I use my fermented mash in my thumper and it double stills it @ 100% proof alcohol and taste absolutely amazing. Thumper is the best for flavour or double still 100% proof alcohol guys 👍
I'm completely new to distillation. I bought this kit and am about to set it up and run some water through to clean it. I have a couple questions. 1) can i ferment in the 8 gallon pot? I want to mash in, and strain, then use an air lock in place of the temp gauge to ferment in the pot. Or do I absolutely need to ferment in a food safe bucket? 2) Do I need to heat the thump keg? On my first run of shine, what should I put in the thumper? Does it HAVE to have liquid in it? Or should I do my first run without the thump, then use the tailings in the thump for each additional run? 3) after I run a few runs of water to clean out any sediment/chemicals from the manufacture of this still, how do I sanitize? What product should I buy to sanitize? Any help would be appreciated!
You can ferment in whatever you want. Take your ingredients and heat the mash until 150ish degrees, DON'T ADD YEAST YET! Let that mash "simmer" for at least an hour, but no more than 2. Make sure your amylase enzymes or malted barley is in the pot with your corn/potatoes/rice or whatever starch component being used, as that's the only way the starch will be converted over to sugars. Anyhow, that's just the initial step. After everything is mixed and your mash gets down to room temp, then add your yeast, stir and leave it somewhere with an airlock. I recommend just getting a NEW 5 gallon bucket w/ a top, cleaning it well with mild dish soap and using that as your fermenter. That's what I use, just drill a hole big enough to put your airlock into. Don't open it back up, or stir it, or ANYTHING for 2 weeks. Just forget about it and set an alarm for 14 days from the day your pitched the yeast. Check it after 14 days, if the airlock is still going crazy, or if you taste it and it still taste sweet, instead of dry, let it sit another week. When youre ready to run, make sure to strain your fermented mash first, turn it into a "wash". Use an ordinary metal strainer at first, I use a screen strainer, which is basically just a normal strainer, but it has stainless steel metal screen, instead of little holes. Then, I go a step further, and strain it one last time with just cheesecloth.... then I'm left with nothing but my "liquid corn wine", aka my "wash". That's what you put in the still and let er rip!! If you don't know how to run the still or what's involved, then I recommend you looking some more into your hobby before setting sail... But my directions I've just provided will at least get you in the boat!
Oh and no, don't heat the thump keg, as it's heated by the steam coming from the pot anyhow. It will boil in the thumper without heat, believe that! The thumper is their for 2 things; most importantly it's there to aid as a pre-distiller, so to speak. You're really just distilling your spirits twice, as it cools enough to go back into a liquid in the thumper, then is being re-steamed to go to your ice cold coil, waiting on the other side! No need to heat the thumper EVER. And add tails to your thumper, just enough to cover the pipe going into it, about an inch or so. If you don't have tails, add pure corn liquor/moonshine if available, or if none is available than water is better than nothing. I know it's your first run, if it were me, I'd just add some of my wash! The second thing that a thumper is good for is infusing the alcohol with flavors, as the steaming alcohol is literally having to go THROUGH the fruit or other flavoring before ending up in a finishing jar... the only time I would ever try to infuse the alcohol is if I was doing a sugar or fruit wash, but I probably wouldn't add any to a corn wash, ever. I would possibly infuse a potato wash as well, and make some awesome vodka! Anyhow, set sail my friend
@@killer44spl no problem. I recommend using your pot still with the thumper NOT installed for the first run or two, find out where the sweet spot is for that particular still (everyone has one, a certain heat that produces the most/best product). Once you figure that out, add your thumper into the mix and run it the exact same way that runs best without it. This will make it produce in a weird fashion compared to your runs without it! But it's not a bad thing, it's just because it's being distilled twice this way, also will make your cuts a lot a lot more "pronounced"
Don't know how to tell you this but your thumper will not work! You have both of the connections with tubes going into the mash or tailings. How is the vapor supposed to get out? The object of a thumper is to take the vapor from your pot still and send it through additional mash or tailings to increase the alcohol content. Then as the vapor bubbles through it the resulting vapor picks up additional ethonol that then goes to your condenser. So one too many tubes!
yup this man know his thumper, the inlet pipe should be submerge into the liquid pot creating double stage distillation that's is why it called doubler
@@DripdropBrewing I find it hard to take your comment seriously. One, science says it will not work, there would be no uptake of the vapors because it would be submerged. Secondly, I am doubting seriously in this cheap little still you're getting 100% alcohol. Third, proof and percent mean two different things, you can't use them in the same context like you are here, so I am not even sure what statement you're trying to make /shrug.
@@johnfoster9160 I meant 60% ABV. I have put this in the attic now. Rubber gasket for the thupmer is weird. Makes the lid bent when clamped shut the first time. I tried a few ways but they seem to have sent something different than I see on the demonstrations
Simple pot design sure it works well butt........dont you dare call that a thumper because its not.anyone that has ran a still before weather it's a 3 gallon or a 250 gallon set up, if your line arm isn't down in your liquid or what ever you decide to put in it, you are not heating the ingredients with the steam from the big boiler, which in turn makes it pointless.
@@jaxs2384 if it doesn't have a tube below the level of the liquid and a outlet above the liquid level then it's not even a thumper. It would just be a chamber that steam passes through.
Highly recommend you buy a design form of still this particular design blew up on me granted due to improper seals I blame manufacturer but can't quite tell what manufacture this one is buy one that has a different design not this one
Hi I have just bought one of these .. can you please explain about the two pipes that go into the thumper .. do you only use one pipe inside second pot if used as a thumpers from boiler running product through alcohol..... and do you use both pipes if using no liquid in the second pot as a slobber box ... the instructions do not mention this ... can you please explain please
Yeah only the pipe that is coming from the pot is supposed to go into the liquid the pipe going from thumper to condenser should be short under the lid so it's not in the liquid and it just takes the vapour away
These are JUNK !!!!! Great idea but useless. I had to modify mine to make it work correctly. The 3/8 outbound tube is too small!! I bored them all out to 3/4 we will see!! I then ran copper to thumper and went into it with 3/4
