@@Tania-rg7jp I think you’ll find it’s not healthy to eat one meal a day at all. That’s not enough to fuel an active body. There’s very little evidence to support the supposed benefits of intermittent fasting. I understand some people do this because of cultural or religious reasons - this video was not about that. This is not a healthy or safe way to lose weight. I think you’ll find abbey would agree with that

completely agree. I do bodybuilding and powerlifting and eat very similar to Blaire. Its my sport. I also eat more flexibly when I am not competing. You will find a lot of athletes have to eat in a very 'obsessive way'. I love food and love life. But I know If I told people about what I eat during a prep I would get roasted by this dietitian. Sick of people pretending they can eat 3000 calories and be 10% fat. Truth is-they don't!

@@riribeasley4741 it is enough if you get enough calories from it. Shit you can still gain weight if you ate 3,000 calories (unless you’re a body builder or sum) in that one meal every day. It’s all about the calories not the frequency you eat.

Havent started the vid yet but I'm finding out from the comments her and nick broke up??!! 💔💔💔💔
I feel like this one vid of hers I haven't even seen entirely misrepresents her channel. She used to make a lot of "eating like____" vids that were super well researched and would even get into how they dressed and acted. It wasn't REALLY about losing weight, at least that's not what it felt like. It was about being open and honest about how diet culture really affects women at that age. She would always point out how terrible she felt on the harder diets and would show us her body in an effort to be relatable. I found her when I was trying to maintain my disordered eating habits and I stayed with her because it actually made me feel good to see that These Diets Do Not Work. And because her channel just didn't support my disorder eating ideas????
I feel like this review of her video was a bit unfair and was definitely looking for things to find disordered. I am still working through the vid and trying have an open mind.. but knowing Blair, I just dont think it's accurate...

I was really sick from celiac’s disease and then got my brain stuck in this weird mode where food was the enemy (not for weight reasons, but because accidentally eating gluten with celiac’s is awful- at least for me). So I realized recently I had gotten in the habit of eating around 700-1,000 calories/ day. The side effects are terrible. I’m building back up now and repairing my relationship with food. Food made me really sick for a long time because I was unaware of my allergies. All this to say: those calorically and nutritionally dense foods are my favorite right now. Ya girl adds olive oil to anything I can. I’m this week up to 1400 calories/day and continuing to build 🙌🏻

I'm dealing with a similar issue but I have gastritis and acid reflux. I can't have anything in the capsaicin family. I didn't learn that from my doctor but from a culinarian friend. No peppers or tomatoes for me for at least a few years if I manage to heal my stomach. For a year after my diagnosis, I struggled to find food to eat and got to the point where I would just starve because it was less painful than my stomach feeling like it was on fire from being set off. Also, the fatigue from it all... horrible. All my doctor told me was what to avoid, not any ideas of what to eat so it's been not fun. I finally feel like I'm figuring it all out though. I have been at a steady weight for about a year now, I'm eating well and I feel pretty good.

Food aversion/allergies must feel nearly impossible to navigate and they can certainly lead to disordered eating if one isn’t careful. I’m sorry you went through that but I’m so proud of you for figuring it out and making it a priority to fuel your body.

I changed my diet for health reasons and was accidentally undereating. I'd been used to eating smaller amounts of calorie dense unhealthy foods (lots of sugar and highly processed food). The healthier foods I switched to filled me up after 800-1100 calories. After noticing I was below my healthy weight range, I tracked calories and realized I needed to make more changes to my diet--and I countinued to keep track until I learned how to meet my daily caloric needs. I also found out those calorie dense healthy foods are my friend! I love using avocado oil, avocados, eggs, peanut butter, cashews, almonds and almond flour, meat, etc. It's really hard to gain back weight once you go below your healthy weight range, especially if you are used to eating smaller portions. It took effort and I still have to pay attention, but I was able to increase calories over time and make it back to a healthy weight. I did lose some muscle and haven't gained all that back yet, but I can work on that later. I don't regret changing my diet at all (my health has improved), but it was definitely a learning curve--it was rough being underweight (did not feel good at all).

@@0nly0NE. I experienced the same thing! I needed to cut out a lot of food due to food intolerances and felt awful. I couldn't figure out why - I thought I was doing my body a favour. And I did, BUT I wasn't eating nearly enough. Calorie counting was a big no no in my mind but it really helped me once I tried it. It helped me figure out the proper amounts of food I need to eat in order to not slip into a drastic calorie deficit. Lesson learned!

I did too after breaking up with my boyfriend of 6 years I went from 135lbs to 120 in a month and a half. I didn’t eat hardly anything at all, I over exercised every day, worked overtime, only drank alcohol and ate crackers occasionally.. it was very unhealthy but I was just too upset to eat. I remember feeling like my heart was literally going to give out and feeling on the verge of collapsing often. I have gained back 5 in the past 4 months, but the sad part is that was the only time I’ve ever felt confident about my body because I was able to tell myself no so easily.

I just want to say that I really appreciate your approach and methods. In my youth, I had to see dieticians who told me to cut out certain foods or insulted my choices.
I developed a chronic illness 5 years ago and was so nervous when at one point when I had to work with a dietician to figure out if I was having blood sugar spikes and crashes. Luckily, their approach was so much better than those I saw as a child.

What she calls "hacks" are literally part of mine and so many other ED sufferers' behaviour, and the fact that she promotes this -even if she does not suffer from ED herself- feels so terribly wrong!! Thank you Abbey, for bringing attention to this quite problematic piece of information. As for Blair, I'm glad she was responsible enough to take the video down, hope she is doing quite alright and working on positively changing her mindset and approach to nourishment.

Tbh there are people (like me) who can just eat huge amounts of food with absolutely no hunger at all. I know what it feels like when I'm actually hungry. But boredom or sadness will create a similar craving for food in me and I can literally just eat on and on. So I have to say I can't agree with the point you made about your body needing food if you feel the need to snack. That's only always true in people who already have a healthy relationship with food.

When, as a straight-sized person, you lose weight (note: you were already a healthy weight before) it can make some of us not want to lose that smaller size/more defined muscles/leaner look. I know it's not healthy but I suffer from that too. When my weight started averaging ~5-7 lbs lighter than "normal" I was obsessed with keeping it there. I didn't consider that an abnormally high activity level led to the unintentional weight loss. The activity level wasn't sustainable; therefore, neither was the low weight. It's hard to tell oneself, "but I was completely healthy at the slightly higher weight and who cares/is judging me?" I feel for her. I get where she's coming from. She's telling herself it's low-effort when she's just gotten used to the self-torture (in my opinion). She's adorable and needs to be more kind to herself.

Soo... I have a question, Abbey. When you talk about hunger crushing combos for snacks, what if you're not really hungry? I think I've heard you say before that intuitive eating includes eating for some other reasons than hunger. But how do I know if my 'strategies' for late night eating is healthy and not a covert disordered voice in the back of my head?
What I mean is I have a feeling that a lot of my cravings for snacks between meals is actually just wanting something in my mouth or textures that are comforting etc. Does eating popcorn or popsicles as a strategy at night cross that line? Because they're definitely not balanced, but I can't say I haven't just crushed three popsicles in a row at night instead of eating other high calorie things... Any insight?

    • @ohleander02
      @ohleander02 3 года назад +3

Popcorn isn't bad for you. And depending on what goes on it or into it it's a pretty safe snack even late at night.
Do you enjoy the 3 popsicles? Or the popcorn? Are you mindlessly eating them? Do you feel hungry actually or are you feeling bored? Do you just want to be doing something late at night?
You can test these things slowly by doing something else or by eating a well balanced snack instead.
Replace the popsicles/popcorn with yogurt with some yummy toppings - like berries and nuts or seeds or nut butter. See how that makes you feel.
And finally consult 2 people: a therapist and a registered dietician.
There's a lot you can figure out for yourself but getting help is always best.

I honestly feel like you may be over analyzing her video a bit.. yeah some stuff she said may not be the absolute healthiest, and some of her methods might trigger eating disorders for others, but overall she didn’t really do anything in an unhealthy way. I personally can NOT do intermittent fasting because I was a binge eater and that triggers me to binge. BUT I am 100% the same way about snacks.. if I have a bunch of snacks in the house I will eat them because they’re there.. not because my body is hungry. So I try not to keep snacks in the house, and if I do get hungry I eat.. just not typical “snack” food. She is sharing methods that worked for her and may work for others.. and at the rate she lost weight she was definitely not in a 1,000 calorie deficit. That’s a healthy rate to lose weight and I think you made a lot of assumptions to make her methods seem more unhealthy than they are.

In the deep of my eating disorder, I also fasted like 20 hrs or more everyday, and ate basically only veggies for my carb intake. I also described this a effortless lol. Obviously this isn't sustainable so it only lasted a few months before I gave myself a break, and went back at it again. I guess I was confused, because even though my mind was always on food and I was starving, I loved the feeling of being hungry. Ngl the only people who describe this eating pattern as "low effort" have an eating disorder, bc the only thing keeping you going is the satisfaction you get from not eating.

Personally, for me, IF works really well to actually curb my binge eating. If I eat breakfast, or really early on in the day.. it instantly turns all of my craving/hunger cues on. Which means I'm hungry and craving aaallll day. Where as not eating until between 3-4PM and just having a nice big meal, and maybe a snack (If I'm still hungry, which I'm usually not) Will keep me satisfied all night. And I'm basically never craving anything, or wanting to binge through the day. Where as if I start eating earlier, I'm just focused on food all day. Which definitely isn't good for me.. Rather than being able to just ignore it until late afternoon.
I'm also Neurodivergent (Both ADHD and Autism..) And Dishes/cleaning up is extremely hard for me.. So only having to clean up after one meal is way easier on me than having to clean up multiple times a day.. Or be overwhelmed at the end of the day by 3 meals worth of dishes.

This video is 2 yrs old but I am actually doing what Blair's doing unintentionally because i kept me sharp and focus on a daily basis. I am an intermittent fasting fan for so long. There are times when i eat 2 meals but most often its OMAD. I only eat when I am hungry or I eat at 12nn and 4pm. Depending on the amount that i consume earlier matters if will eat dinner at 4pm or not. Yes i drink lots of water, coffee during breakfast hours, light exercises and stretching but I go to bed earlier or not past 11pm. My meals contains protein, veggies carbs and fruits. It's balance and I cook most of my meals. I rarely order or buy readymade food. Also I always incorporate boiled eggs with every meal. It actually made me feel great for the longest time and kept my weight stable. I don't count my calories or even worries about it. It's still important for me to exercise though to keep in shape and maintenance blood circulation to stabilize my mood.

Hey Abbey! I hope you see this...
I've been following you for a while now and have absolutely loved every single one of your videos and the messages you convey in them.
I struggled with food addiction and binge eating, which got really bad after my dad passed away 2 years ago, and as a result I've gained a lot of weight. Your videos have helped me go back to a time when I had a healthy relationship with food and when I ate everything I wanted without guilt, and yet was at a healthy weight. I've been eating intuitively for over a month now and I have even managed to lose a little bit of weight, just because my body is going back to its natural set point. But the diet culture mentality is SO prevalent in social media, amongst my friends and everywhere I look really...I've started to crack. There's a voice in my head screaming at me that unless I count calories and eat just 1200 a day (I'm 5'3, so that's what all the apps say I should eat in order to lose weight), I'll never go back to a healthy weight.
I want to start having children soon, but my current weight puts me just bellow the obese mark and has caused me numerous issues like sciatica and back pain, so I don't want to do it unless I feel my body can handle it. It really breaks my heart because I feel like the only way to lose the weight in the foreseeable future would be to go on a restrictive diet and I really don't want to do that, especially now when I've just started to successfully repair my relationship with food.
I would really appreciate any sort of guidance, or information about how I should approach this issue.
Thank you so much for reading, I hope you have a great day!

I'd also like to add that I am a person who eats LOTS of nutritious foods, who loves fruits and vegetables and has grown up on a Mediterranean diet. For this specific reason, I feel like calorie counting is especially cruel. I'd have to restrict healthy, nutritious foods and worry about the amount of olive oil I use in my salad or how calorically dense the 400 ml of fresh pressed orange juice I have in the morning is...It honestly feels like a punch in the gut. If I hear "calories in - calories out" one more time I will snap. I feel very lost and hopeless.

Nik isn't REALLY engaged. If you know how he is you'd know how much of a troll he is. He hasn't even been "physically romantic" with his "fiance" yet. It's a gag. He LITERALLY did an entire video of how him and Blair ended. They agreed to go to therapy and instead SHE decided to go on a Yacht with Azzyland and called Nik and said, "Therapy is for losers and she will never go to a therapist. She has bashed him many many many times on her Instagram and videos.
She used to be such a lovely person that seemed to have such good morals and values. Yes, I completely understand the heartbroken state she is in. But she literally CHOSE to NOT fix her relationship. All men aren't dog water and to "get over someone" you shouldn't get "under someone." (Her advice) She has an extremely young fan base and personally in her recent videos she is setting horrible examples to her younger impressionable audience.
I have been watching her for years and she has changed. Not for the better and it's so sad. She smokes cigs now...its just....idk. I hope she finds herself again. She TRULY seems like a sweetheart and kind soul.
She has always had issues with her body. There is absolutely nothing wrong with therapy. Therapy is like a workout for your mental. As important as it is to exercise and work on your physical, it is the same when it comes to your mental.

I feel horrible for Blair. She used to have such a positive bubbly humour and a zest for food and Life in general. It's so heartbreaking to hear about her breakup and how it seems to be affecting her. I'll also say as far as her describing her diet as low effort: it definitely is low effort to not eat until well into the day when your experiencing depression. It is so much work for me to actually get up and eat when I'm in a depressed state to the point where I literally will wait until I'm about to pass out to put something in my body. I hope that's not what she's referencing, but I do understand kind of turning that into an intermittent fasting mindset.

The fact that you said that 200 wasn’t a meal has actually made me feel so relieved, I try to eat vegan a lot and I see proportion sizes on all the packages and the calories for each and I notice 3 nuggets = 190 calories and it makes me so anxious and makes me feel like I should just have that so I do and then I binge in the end and I never understood why when I was eating the proportion I was told.

Portion sizes make no sense in the real world of a person eating, tbh idk what logiv there is behind, completely ignore them. Eat what you think is a fair amount for your needs. (I also never listen to the vegan nugget suggest portion, the other day I ate a whole pack of vegan bratwurst)

also know that eating veggie is way different than eating animal products. normally animal products have much more calories and fats in them than if you were to eat just veggie. also you do need to eat more on a veggie diet because eating a salad is not the same as eating it with steak. best way to stay heathly on a veggie diet is add mulitple groups of food in your meal and then you should cover the bases!

@Hannah Dailey this is such a big thing for me to realise. I stress when my meals are 300 calories +.

I've been vegetarian since I was 12, so I've spent a lot of time trying to learn about how to have a balanced diet. With things like veggie nuggets, the portion size is set with the idea that they will be a side to a larger meal. 190 calories is a snack, not a meal. On days when you're feeling lazy and the nuggets are going to be your whole dinner, go ahead and eat multiple servings. If you have more energy, make some sides to go with the nuggets so you can have a full meal. Sometimes I like to put mine in a wrap or on a salad. I've also tossed fake chicken into a curry sauce with some veggies and put it over rice. I like to aim for a good variety of foods in my day rather than a specific calorie count. I think Abbey has a playlist of good vegan WIEIAD videos that you can watch for inspiration.
