    After some of the feedback I've gotten on this video, I just wanted to say that my comments are never meant to be mean spirited. These are genuine reactions, and as I always say in my videos, this is meant to be educational and entertainment. This is youtube, and as I stated when I started the celebrity harpers bazaar series, I was going to be a little more off the cuff with it. Having said that, I always try to be mindful of language and offer trigger warnings when I can. So while these topics are sensitive, I try to bring humour and sarcasm to the table to make it more enjoyable to watch, while still educating and offering advice for the masses. None of this is meant to criticize the celebrities themselves. As I stated, it’s simply a jumping off point for educating about nutrition.

      I thank you for your information, but I did have to fast forward through most of your critique. I've always appreciated your obvious effort in looking for the positive, and I didn't see that happening here. I could be wrong since I didn't listen to the whole thing. We have so much negativity out there these days I just didn't want to volunteer to hear more. Critique yes, bash no.

      Honestly, I'm struggling to see how someone could deem this as a bashing video! And this comes from someone who usually doesn't appreciate how easily Abbey can categorize some things as so called diet culture. People are actively using word "discipline" here, but guys! Word "discipline" implies that there is some logic behind Your routine. You can call disciplined a bodybuilder who's prepping for a show - they (most likely) use time-proven diet types and methods for achieving a particular look. But when You have set rules that have no scientific meaning and no logic this is not discipline, this is something completely different. Confusion, delusion, ignorance, misconception... Whatever, but it would be wrong to praise that.

      baylor williams The issue is that the disciple comes from made up rules. She's put restrictions on herself that don't exist. It would be really disciplined to not have sex for 10 years...but what's the point and what's the motivation? Discipline is fine but I think we should question why someone is being so disciplined about an aspect of their life and if it makes them happier or sadder.

    • @musique1o1
      @musique1o1 3 года назад +211

      @@carolinelmaurer there should be shame attached to lying and setting ridiculous examples for impressionable viewers though. And also, let's talk about eating disorders while we're at it, bc she is starving herself. Whenever a head is bigger than the torso, you know it's not natural.

    • @carolinelmaurer
      @carolinelmaurer 3 года назад +113

      @@musique1o1 It seems she is deeply in it. It isn't something that shame helps. In fact, a large percentage of all eating disorders are triggered by that very specific feeling of shame. Plus, she's a human with a family and they are the ones who would likely intervene. Not shame-inducing strangers commenting on her food and body. Going with love and radical acceptance is a method to get one to internalize love and radically accept themselves and take care of themselves as they would a loved one. After decades of an eating disorder complete with ineffective, sometimes more triggering, interventions, that is what healed me. Peace.

    Kelly Ripa has misophonia, which causes intense negative emotional and physical reaction to repetitive noises. As someone with severe misophonia, I was very interested to see how she eats since mine has affected my own diet so much. I also may be able to give some clarification. First, her wording of "first chewable food" actually makes sense from a misophonia standpoint. Whether or not a food is chewable is the first thought I have when I think about a food. Chewable food means that it will make sound as you or others eat it, which triggers misophonia. Second, her tenseness during the interview makes me think that she is being triggered during it. I don't have any proof, but watching her speak reminded me of myself whenever I try to hold a conversation as someone is coughing, sniffing, or chewing. Basically, misophonia activates your fight-flight reaction, so you tense up and your mind doesn't work as it normally does because it's screaming at you that you are in danger. Third, I just wanted to highlight the effect misophonia can have on someone's relationship with food. Imagine that being near anyone eating or slurping causes you intense emotional and physical pain. After years of experiencing this everyday, you start to have a very negative relationship with food. Every situation that involves food is an anxiety attack waiting to happen. Eventually, you start to associate food with pain and you start to hate it. I haven't done it myself, but I could easily see someone with misophonia only eating to survive and, as a result, only eating the most nutritious foods at all times.

      Interesting that you bring this up, because I have this very thing and I am super weird about textures with food. Ironically, my own food chewing doesn't bother me but I'm a quiet chewer. But I can't stand certain food textures either. My favorite texture to chew in is crunchy. I put crunchy chips in my sandwiches all the time.

      But then why wouldn’t she eat more soft things like a sandwich or yogurt. As someone who has trouble with muscle weakness, there are ways around limitations or triggers that don’t have to involve eating multiple salads in a day. And if that was the case, crunchy veg should be the biggest trigger.

    • @karynstouffer3562
      @karynstouffer3562 6 месяцев назад +2

      Hmmm... I can't describe my misophonia as being anywhere near "severe," but it's not my own eating noises that I find intolerable, most of the time. From others? Definitely. Lip smacking gusto, open mouths, all of that is a sure-fire way to get me to leave the room.
      This why I can't do "mindful eating." I MUST have some decent background noise, like TV, to distract me from eating noise.
      Otherwise, I'm doomed to not eating.
      I kinda doubt that's Kelly's "why," though. I'm leaning towards the incredible pressure to stay thin and perfect for TV.

    A little different perspective here, I'm recovered mentally from my ED so now I am just working on the physical effects (being able to eat a full meal, remembering to eat multiple times a day, keeping everything down, maintaining weight gain). While a couple of years ago I could see this triggering something, now I see this as a reminder of how far I've come and why I would never want to go back. Watching you cringe at some of the old routines and "rules" I did is so reaffirming that I'm doing the right thing by not falling back into the ED comfort zone. Thank you.

    Kelly does seem intense, but some of the repetitive nature of her diet may have more to do with a comfort in routine or avoiding decision fatigue. Similar to the reason that Mark Zukerburg wears the same tshirt and jeans every day, Kelly may be trying to simplify her life. I tend to have the same breakfast and lunch every day- not because I’m trying to restrict to safe foods, but because, particularly during Covid, I’ve found it comforting to know what’s coming and not have to think too hard about what to make in between Zoom calls. I switch it up for dinner, but having breakfast and lunch set just makes life easier. For the reasons you said, that may not be the healthiest, but it’s not necessarily the result of being a Type-A robot.

      92 protein a day is a lot if you arent trying to be a body builder or you're trying to prevent muscle fading away (either from having cancer and trying to preserve it, or just as your growing older to keep your muscles from fading away (knowing that per decade after around your late 20s and early 30s you lose around 5% to 7%) Also your body is only able to break down 10g of protein per hour so if you eat it all at once most of it wouldnt even be digested properly, and if you eat more than you should you might promote muscle recovery if you work out... you need around 0.75-1gr per 2.2lbs or 1kg. If you want to built muscles you should aim for 2grams per 1kg same thing applies with wanting to recover from some kind of injury.. anything your body wouldnt need will either be wasted because your body couldnt digest it or... your body would use it for energy if you eat less carbohydrates /fats. But if eat the normal amounts that you need of carbs and fats, all the protein that was digested, would be stored as fat.

      Yes! I basically rotate the same foods throughout the week and meal prep (not the same foods as Kelly though!). I was kinda annoyed by all the comments about how eating the same thing is boring. I have healthy food I love and like to have them on hand and not think about what to eat. I've got enough other stuff to deal with. Eat to live not live to eat, but that doesn't mean you have to eat boring goods.

    I often find that those pond water green powder things make me feel so nauseous that I don't want to eat for hours afterwards so maybe that's how they help people to lose weight

    Why ask her what she eats if all you do is ridicule. If you were really concerned you wouldn’t be so sarcastic. Especially if you too feel like you’ve been over controlling with your food in the past. Be kind and offer helpful advice.

    I feel bad for her husband & kids. Sounds like she never enjoys eating what they are eating.

      In an interview once she said she tries to avoid fatty foods like cheese, and that she could eat pizza and fries every day but usually keeps it at once a week. So I hope she actually does eat them
