  • Hitscan is OP, right? Just hit your shots and grind aim trainers, right? Well, as always, the answer isn't quite as simple as you'd think, BUT... Coach Spilo is here to fill the gaps in your DPS understanding, on the BASICS (basics that are important all the way to Champion/T500) of DPS (honestly, hitscan or not!).

    Sometimes the "simpler conversations" that come from a less experienced player about basic matchups and interactions actually highlight how important the fundamental concepts are MORE than high level reviews or macro content, because Spilo needs to "prove how straightforward the right answer is". It is easy to think of these fundamental concepts as high level overviews, but they are actually small micro basics that add up as well. This video is fantastic and easily one of my favorites.

    Just as an idea: you could start a series: coaching coaches, where you coach coaches from different games, as in my opinion this was a weary good piece of educational content, it got down to the basics like nothing else I had ever seen.

    As a top 500 player I think everyone overthinks the game. If it didn’t work think of what you could do instead. If it wins the game it works. No one sits there and starts doing math in their head. The fundamentals become instinct through practice and you just know what works then you get creative completely by accident.

    As a DPS main who's dumped almost 3k hours in this game through pure intuition, this really helped me see and clarify what I'm doing as a player in the game. This is an extremely helpful video, and brought words in understanding my gameplay. Will there be a potential fundamentals for support and tank? Really looking forward to that in the future if so!

    At the start of the video. I believe that moving forward will give you a advantage unless it's cover you are moving away from. Because hitting shots is the thing you gotta do as dps (and getting/ confirming kills) but If you can't hit those shots because you not as skill from a far then moving closer is the option. Also don't forget damage range falloff. If I'm cassidy and see I'm hitting 1 hp because of range then I'm going to get closer so I can actually put in work.

    Should I play mauga using Dps fundamentals, because he does not have sustain to play like must tanks nor does he have a consistent about of burst.
    If I take an extremely aggressive angle at mid range, I feel like I am just shredding them, but I want to know if this is the best thing to do?

  • @LeSqueed
    @LeSqueed 2 месяца назад +1

    Question based on your talk about pressure. You state that objective pressure is normally not a DPS's job. Would you say that recently this has changed somewhat, specifically with more mobile heroes like Tracer? Notice especially on payloads, you don't want the tank to be there, or the support to be in such a vulnerable position. You'd rather have them setup positions I feel for taking an optimal fight.

    • @ryanp652
      @ryanp652 2 месяца назад

      tracer has often been used for cart push. The Kevster VOD review a while back had this a lot, he talks about how cart is an angle. Not much has changed fundamentally from S8-9 about this, but with the meta shake up it is important to know.

    i think the walking forward is from league mechanics. in a game with no cover, the only way to avoid pressure is to walk out of effective range. so if u have an advantage, u constantly input forward movement or risk wasting the opportunity.
    it’s a good habit in league, just doesn’t translate well to a game where pressure is much more consistent. i wonder if ur gaming background affects what aspects of ow2 u struggle with

    I can’t agree with the way you’re defining Pressure, because DPS do alleviate Pressure by taking off angles. As soon as some of the enemy are looking at you & not the rest of your team, you alleviated Pressure, and you absorbed Pressure. Just because there are fewer people shooting at your team, since they can’t shoot you & your team at the same time.
    I think of it more like there’s: Space, Tempo, Economy, and Pressure. Everyone engages in all of these, all of these are intertwined.
    Space is taking up space so the enemy cannot use that space. Most tanks take up space or deny space. Most damage disrupt space.
    Tempo is the cadence of the fight, and the “call & response” of the fight. Like music: “when I do it like this, you do it like that.” Tempo says “we’re down 1, pull back.” Tempo says “we got a pick, push up.” Tempo says “Reaper killable, no fade.” Tempo says “tank out of position, punish.” Tempo is where Supports live.
    Economy is what Ults are available & how quickly they’re being used. What do we have to react to them & what do they have to react to us? How many ults do we have, and how many ults have they used. “They used Zen ult last fight.” “The Rein has Shatter.”
    Pressure is our ability to control & influence the enemy’s Space, Tempo, and Economy. Pressure says “we can use Dynamite to bait Suzu.” Pressure says “taking an off-angle creates a distraction for your team.” Pressure says “that Widow is effectively taking up that space.”
