That's why I mostly play projectiles. That way my lack of skill can still work for me. I don't expect to hit most shots but if I spam enough eventually the projectile will hit someone
@@deusvult6920 that's a much better philosophy than my aiming philosophy/style which is "aim in the general direction of the enemy team and whatever happens, happens." sometimes that means I get three as Hanzo. other times, that means I swap off Kiriko because I have missed the enemy Kiriko so many times that I'm embarrassed and ashamed and don't want them to judge me as much lmao

One thing to be aware of with standing still sometimes is the netcode causing lag in what you see vs what the enemy is actually doing. I've died plenty of times when the enemy from my pov was facing 90 degrees away and never even looked at me, but then in the kill cam the enemy had already been looking straight at me long enough to get an easy shot on my head. Just make sure you are not sitting 100% stationary for multiple seconds at a time.
I feel like the advice is sound. I don't think someone in gold or plat would take this advice, stand stationary for multiple seconds, get killed and then go on to blame the coach advice. Basically the advice is to "slow down" which is true for most competitive games. I play fighting games and the same principle applies where intermediate players get ahead of themselves and want to do it all, all the time, and even the pros just ... don't. They look at the screen, see what's going on, and adjust accordingly. If he peeks out from cover and sees the pharah already shooting at something else, placing a nice accurate 2 tap shouldn't take but a moment. The problem is, most players, myself included as I am metal ranks af, tend to shoot as soon as their reactions allow instead of taking that half a second to "see" what's going on first. There is no decision making, just pure instincts, and guess what ... your instincts are gold level.
It's also a form of limit testing. Like, how long can you get away with it without actually moving. Just like push, push, pushing as a tank is a very greedy play, standing still as a ranged character is a greedy play but if you CAN get away with it, you should until punished.
If someone is just starting out playing FPS games, I could see your point. If their major mistakes with movement is, they move too little, then saying it's okay to stand still sometimes might be bad advice as it double downs on their already bad habits. But at this point, anyone receiving coaching is likely long past that phase, and they likely NEED to slow down to see any progress.
Idk, I think think that'd advice unless you're saying to do instead of standing still, bc otherwise people default to adad strafing as shown in the video, something you need to consider. Standing still is probably better than saying just not to.
You shouldn't be an easy target, IF and only IF your positioning is good. That's the key here, positioning. I've seen plenty of diamond and plats standing still and wrecking the lobby.
So, I'd say stand still as you like, as much as possible, because if your position is good then you should be fine. Only move when you sense danger approaching.
@@GriFFonRec4 Standing still is fine I think, I see plenty of high ranks doing it. What separates them from lower ranks standing still is positioning. That matters more. Otherwise I think most people will just be like the guy in the vid and autopilot to adad strafing for no reason.
there is no movement pattern that makes me win 1vs1 against kirikos in tryhard ffa :(
But people don't forget tryhard ffa is not a duell mode, its an aimtrainer, you want to spawn fast, find fast targets to click, don't get frustrated if you die over and over again, just press F and keep going. You want to have as many headshot attempts per minute as you can, you want to have a frustration level going that you can't achieve what you want because enemies to hard, that will trigger neural adaption best when you go to sleep tonight. Try hard, fail hard, arise a better person next morning.

This is so true. Also entering tryhard with the right mindset can help a lot.
I know everyone in the lobby is like 100 times better at mechanics then me. That takes so much pressure off my shoulders and I can focus on learning while enjoying being crushed and celebrating if I can survive a duel.
And man if you come out of tryhard and go into a normal game at least at my level sometimes it feels so snappy.

If you have the fundamentals of aiming it’s really about seeing your targets clear enough and being able to focus in on them while not getting lost in your movement.
Like myself the days my aim is absolutely cracked is when when my movement and mouse movements are in sync, vs the days where I feel I’m my own worst enemy causing myself to miss shots
I have a really bad habit of ego duels but I play the game for fun. I die when I should have just not challenged.
I have this too. At my peak aim I combine aiming with a little bit of movement aim for tiny adjustments
One silly thing I do when dueling projectile heroes is to just randomly stand completely still for a fraction of a second in-between strafing, it will throw them off because they are usually aiming the opposite direction of your strafe and waiting for you to change directions like a predictable AD strafe pattern. Take that time while still to line up a headshot and then they will start panicking and screwing up their aim even more so you can finish them off easier. Works especially well against hanzo, zen, phara, not so much against genji.

Why did I only watch this now? Currently I try to find a second hero to practice along soldier and was wondering why I don't hit a single shot with Ashe. I think most players in my silver lobbys ad-strafe like this the whole time. While not being a conscious decision most of the time, it'll ruin my aim with Ashe or Cassidy against them while soldier works way better and my sojourn is ok-ish except for the rail gun shots. It all makes so much sense now 🙏.
Also of course I have the same bad quick adad habbit that puts my aim totally off.

hmm... I always use "a-d strafe" to aim. It adds smothness to a crosshair movement that mouse technically cannot provide. Just try and move a cursor along the screen slowly - you'll see all the terrible bumps and twitches in the world, that come from micro-tensions of your muscles and grip (even tiniest) of a mouse with a mouse pad.
Moreover your a-d speed almost always matches a-d speed of your target, so you don't have to match it manually with a mouse.
Typically people who do this have a sensitivity that is either too low or a dpi that is way to high. Smooth aim (most of the time) comes with settings
@@RioRock7can u elaborate on that (or post a source of information). I'm currently trying to find good settings. I read 1600 dpi with half sensitivity is always better than 800 dpi. I have the feeling that it didn't really translate well and has actually made me worse but could not really find a reason why it should.
@@RobertPazurek So, the thing with DPI is that it is effectively the resolution of your mouse sensor. Increasing it to like 1600 or even 3200 will NOT (on modern sensors) create tremors or jitters, HOWEVER, it could, IN THEORY, show the micro jitters that are created from your aim.
Higher sensitivities IN GENERAL (not dpi) will also show these jitters much more, but for a different reason. Where as, a higher DPI, but the same cm/360, may show jitters more because the resolution of the sensor may allow it to pick up on these micro jitters MORE, higher sens will exacerbate those jitters that are picked up.
This is not higher sens making you worse at aiming, but instead, showing the lack of overall mouse control you have.
Jitters could also be created from tension, which isn't bad IN MODERATION, if you are always tensing while aiming, there is something wrong.
With that being said, just play on whatever you want in terms of DPI, I personally play on 3200dpi because that is what I am used to. Just make sure your sens isnt absurd for the character you are playing, and work on mechanics.
Also, please do not crutch on movement to aim, it makes your movement way to predictable, its the concept of mirror/anti-mirror and dodge
Thanks for the detailed explanation, now I have a few angles to explore. Very much appreciated. I also just realized, that I use mirroring a lot while training with bots. I think it's a great tool if you know when to use it (like when no one's looking at you or you have the dps advantage in a duel) but can really mess you up if you don't. I'm not at a level where I can make good choices in that regard and will pay attention to not let it become a habbit I can't control.
