Are Overwatch 2 Players Boosted?

- Has the transition to Overwatch 2 made ranking up easier? Are Overwatch players overall... worse? This is not only a discussion on the theory of that question (and the answer), but some visual examples of just what Grandmaster (and Gold) gameplay looked like... "back in the day."

Do you think the average playerbase in FPS games will continue to improve?
Of course, people learn and adapt. Man will always improve at everything, it's all we do starting from the moment we are born.
I think so, I have no reason to think it wouldn't
yes but no improves in split ways, we are going to continue to get god aimers who are great regardless of what they play solely because of their aim as long as they utilize it correctly and we also get game specific increase in knowledge and game sense which always resets in new games if they arent very similar to another and very specific to the mechanics of each game. You cant expect someone to take things they learn in overwatch and apply it to paladins, marvel rivals or even upcoming games like deadlock from valve.
@@incediumignis you literally can. I know I have. It's called thinking about your actions and relating what you are doing to a past experience. Saying playing a different shoot won't make you better at this shooter is just inaccurate. No not every aspect is the same but more is then isn't.
Overwatch 2 players did not have to coordinate pushing 2 tanks through the Hanamura choke vs a Mei. They are boosted.
They are boosted because the game is different? Makes no sense.
I would just say the game was in a more unfair state I mean we even see spilo in gm up close hard scoping ash as well as throwing nade at himself while still being full health
Like, that makes the tank role way much harder.
What this guy is trying to point out is that ow1 required far more teamwork and coordination that these ow2 kids will likely ever have to experience.
@bob-ot8pl Unfairness was not and is not a problem in either iterations of the game. Players are the problem.
5 random players meet up to play a map and mode that nobody on team knows how to play, set on playing the one hero they want to play. They are already tilted out of their minds from previous games.
5 random players meet up in a map that they usually win on, they all play different subroles in their role. They are on win streaks or having a good day otherwise and playing the very best overwatch that they'll play all week.
You get teams like these, that don't have any control over matching. There is no reputation placement priority like other games have. These extreme matches make the illusion that matching is unfair. OW(2) has too many factors and information for one person to perfectly interpret. But you've matched 5 random people, regardless of rank, with their own psychological complexities and cultural backgrounds. The game is inherently social, and match quality fluctuates based on people's moods alone. Ever played before 4pm and enjoyed all your games, then none after? Just so you know, the games start getting good again between 10 and 11pm after all the day jobbers and students go to bed.
We need the desk slamming, sleep dart missing, GM hitting Spilo back.
Everyone remembers the last few seasons of OW where the only people playing were dedicated to the game and compare it to season 1 of OW 2 where you had everyone running it down all the way up until masters because there were a lot of new players. They’re comparing the sweatiest point in OW to the most casual point in OW 2
RaggTagg name drop! That guy was so fun. He gave some decent advice, but mostly he drank and played the keyboard and called you a donkey. 5 star stuff. I loved it.

I always found it funny how some youtubers/streamers call themselves RANK 1 despite only hitting rank 1 in OW1 and never in OW2.
It‘s obviously way harder now since more people figured the game out and have a lot more experience
I know for at least a couple years in ow1 Warn had rank 1 ashe in every stream title despite only ever hitting rank 1 on console bro was masters most of the time
I wouldn't say for sure that it's harder, as back then there was no knowledge of the game and so many more people were playing it. To be at the top, you had to actually define the meta and make up your own strategies.
The skill needed to be a high level player is a LOT higher now, but you no longer need to discover what good positioning is, you can just learn it. IMO, it's a different skillset.
@@frailty7280well warn is just a moron lmaooo
It's crazy to look back at this and see how much people cared about playing to win in 2018. These players are all diamond and masters and everyone is comming and trying. Today the best way to win is to stay out of VC and even pro players don't use it aside from joking around with their friends in the lobby.
That was always how it was back then. Even in lower ranks. I have old gameplay in silver where people are shotcalling all game.
Well when you can get kicked for saying poopie makes it kinda tough to talk in a competitive shooter..
Back then you could say fuck off without getting a jail sentence. Now-a-days the average American is too offended by air to play an online shooter and communicate.
Was GM in 2017. Took a break and only recently started playing again with friends. I'm now in Diamond, hoping to achieve at least Master again.
Remember Flame? That was the coaching content that got me from low diamond to 500 in one season back in 2017. Watching you today after years not playing and coming back to the game, I can see you being that person for a lot of folks based on your style of teaching. You teach a lot of general tactics and thinking applicable to all levels that many pro players still miss, just like Flame back in the day.
I have came back to overwatch recently after grinding and reaching high masters in like 2017 and 2018. While this could be a matchmaking issue, I do think knowledge creep is actually real as the games I play currently in diamond 3-4 are quite the same as the masters games I played back then, despite me being more conscious of fundamentals such as positioning, reading enemy cool-downs and playing in cover etc.
In less than 1 minute into the video and I already see a soldier naming himself TRUMP76 XDDDD
I wonder if 5 years from now players will be looking at VODs from 2024 and laughing at them like we do at these.
Probably less so. There is a ceiling somewhere we can only do so far and there’s diminishing returns so many years in
Hopefully we will be back in 6v6 by then 😮
@@kyle57688 agreed, at the end of the day, the limitations of the game and human body mean that there is a ceiling, it's just a bit flexible.
To be fair in 6v6 days, you genuinely did have to choose a style of Ana using nade between mostly anti or mostly team heal, because it's just hard to use it like modern days with 4 tanks (sometimes more) on the field.
9:57 "USE ANY COOLDOWN" My brother in Christ they are both on CD already
This is why once I found you I started watching you more than anyone else. You are one of the very few who have been in the trenches with us lowbies! Except when I need a laugh. Then I'll watch some of the top 500 guys try some VoDs and give tips before seeing how badly they predicted the randomness that is down here.

Thanks for sharing. The gold zen on Gibraltar was fire.
20:28 is the banger clip though.
I also started to suspect that people are just way better at gaming now then before, even when I have games and I just cant UNDERSTAND why some people are just playing a certain way that makes no sense to me. Almost!! every time I check the replay out the answer is "ah okay so that's what happened" or "ah they couldn't do anything there" or "damn maybe that was my fault" and that makes me feel a bit better, the answer is simply "Get gudder".
TBH i went from gold (tank), silver(dps), and bronze (supp) in OW1 to respectively plat, gold, gold. I was a little surprised at the beginning but I think I maybe got better after plying more constantly and watchinh hours and days of competitive ow. This still doesn't change the fact that also in plat the average player IQ is below -900

Full vod review of your past self would be interesting. The partial viewing was entertaining, even. More would be good.
Ever since I understood how much the playerbase has improved, I've been more proud of myself for at least maintaining my rank, especially when I play far less than I used to.
I think the average playerbase “improved” when they increased the hibox size. So many people getting away with murder because they can hit shots easier. I honestly hate this new health buff because it gave the excuse of let’s make bullets bigger. Honestly, I wish they reverted those season 9 changes.
You can still miss if you have bad aim/tracking which I see a lot in Gold
Some good old educational content that not many knew about was made by Skyline. A lot of it still holds up today
Man what a journey
in Overwatch1 i was like maybe 13ish 14 around there. I was low silver and i left overwatch around the anniversary event and started playing when ow2 released on console so started playing consistently i got to silver played more got gold left for a season stayed gold untill season 8. started taking the game more seriously and climbed to plat around season 8 and high plat 1 season 9 this season im aiming for diamond maybe (sorry for bad English despite being native)
I meant i was young so i was bad cuz i couldn't understand the game, my sr was probably around 1700
Yes, you played more consistently and seriously tried to improve, which resulted in you ranking up.
I was really surprised when I went to ranked after playing a lot of QP and hit GM with over 70% winrate back then, as I assumed GM players would be quite good, but now I understand. Just basic line of sight considerations seem really difficult for the players in this match. The Overwatch playerbase had a very large portion of people that did not have a strong prior cognitive foundation from other FPS games. Average low GM players back then are Diamond now at best.
What a fun video to watch while eating
Overwatch was my first FPS game that I ever enjoyed. I didnt start playing ranked untill the game was allready dying I think I started ranked roughly when Brig was released.
I spent my entire overwatch 1 career in Bronze. As the years rolled on I will say even though my rank didnt go up the games did infact get harder because of rank deflation. And I did improve even if my rank stayed the same.
When I moved to overwatch 2 I definitely shot up pretty quick. And I felt like I was boosted, however the bronze people I was winning against were arguably brain dead cause they were new to the game. Once I climbed to high silver it felt like bronze OW1 again.
I have been able to maintain my rank as a Plat support and continue to climb slowly. I do not feel like a hinderance in my games and I personally dont feel like I am boosted any more I just think the population has increased and plat-gold is where my mediocer skills have landed me. Maybe once the new players get better I will drop again.
But I solo carried myself out of bronze by not getting tilted and applying the things I learned from people like emongg spilo and Karq; and no one who thinks I am boosted can take that pride away from me I earned my rank and if everyone is infact better then they were in old OW1 then I earned it even more.
I haven't seen that much energy in an overwatch game in years
It's just the influx of new players from OW2 vs OW1
The game is in a pretty meh state so the only people really playing are newish players that don't talk
@@REALGOODCOMMSThe people that talk in ow2 lobbies are evil. Screw them seriously.
Turned off comms since Season 5 never looked back.
Nice explanation of statistics
I have a bronze ana game from like 4 years ago and when I watched it back, I honestly felt there wasn't much difference between how i play now (gm player). I do believe I should be concerned.
my friends played OW when it came out. they tell me they were diamond/masters when they played. i play with them now im bronze and im pretty sure im better.
Not gonna lie i peaked masters in overwatch 1 and I’ve been plat 2 for like 4 seasons straight now on overwatch 2. Something about this game just doesn’t click with me i guess
Its cause they changed it in a very poor way and ruined the core of the game, also ranked matchmaking is worse
I need another boost. I peaked gm1 and just dropped to d2 😅. I've ranked back up to d1 but after the reset i only made it to m2 at best and top 420. I could use another boost badly
From what I've seen from asking people and checking profiles, masters is the equivalence of GM right now.
I am going to build a time machine to go back and offer help to 2017 Spilo Mercy she was SUFFERING my god.
I actually have vods of me from bronze-gold from 2018 , I doubt you will be revisiting this topic but if you are interested I could get you some very bad gameplay lol
Tbh, I even think it changed from last year to today, when I was stuck in silver for a bit after I started playing Im pretty sure it looked worse than most of what I see in "spectating metal ranks" videos
The rank reset brought the average rank to mid-gold when it used to be mid-plat i think
The lack cool downs usage was scary, not using nade.
I miss Iostux and Jayne
Wow, that gameplay on first point literally looks like my plat lobbies im currently in, the only difference is that thr dps are slightly more consistent with their aim. I dont know maybe im wrong.
Oh and positioning is actually better in the old lobby, but it should be since it's masters. Didn't really notice how far forward plat players play on that map, and I also realize how stupid that is.
the start of ow2 the rank system did just give old players higher ranks for no reason. and i think the average skill of ow1 2021 and ow2 now the ow1 players were better, but thats because it was only the die hards left. i think the best players are soooo much better, but that low mid tier took a step down.
I honestly find it way harder to be good at tank in ow2. Used to consistently be plat in ow1 on tank but I can barely get into it on ow2. Is to cuz I play ball? Maybe but I shouldnt feel like I have to play at 2x speed just to be counterpicked and deleted.
YourOverwatch days...
I used to watch Jayne all the time, even got coached by him once and he had other coaches as well.
I never did make it out of low silver for very long.
In all this time, still there. My friends say " you should be plat or diamond. "
I say a few more game and I'll be bronze....
Truly don't get it.
This is how all my QP games in Gold ELO look but my Gold teammates in Comp are still worse than this
Yes without a doubt. I know i should not be gm yet i still hit it
"Hey guys hope you're doing fine my name is Skyline." - my og goat
OW 2 as it is right now, it’s significantly harder to hit masters and GM since the reset, so if someone is diamond now, they were likely masters in OW1.
It feels so hopeless to hit GM now, I’d have to be so immensely skilled, not talented SKILLED.
We’re talking skill. Not talent, proper years of skill to build. It’s just never going to happen
Ooooof that looks like OW2 gold or plat
Bronze dude

I miss ow1 tracer dude, holy shit
Yeah... it feels so miserable now with all the immortalities and ways to dodge her ult and pressure, kiri tp suzu, lifeweaver lifegrip, healing numbers are as high as ever, and tanks are gigabuffed now, along woth magnetic grenade being the most insane counter to the hero with no skill requirement and everyone having bigger bullet sizes since the season 9 patch and making it easier to hit tracer as well as them all pretty much having 250 hp now making one clips or killing through heals nearly impossible
Diamond? Before or after season 9 haha
i miss jayne, the inventor of esports :(
This shows what a lot of people dont understand when they say gamers are more sweaty and try harder now days. Theyre not theyre just better. lol
I promise most people disagreeing with you here didn't watch the video. I promise.
I swear to go ow1 masters was equal to ow 2 gm 3 atleast on console. Mercy players are the most boosted players of them all
I am probably boosted.
Ye cos the game is random now. Cod ow
Overwatch 2 players are better because they watch all of your coaching calls on your second channel
I came across much better plat players than here in this match
The old players were so much worse holy hell
i actually think theres no corelation with having played fps games before for most people
OW2 gm was an absolute joke until they made it really hard again last season
Two things can be true my friend.
Only reading the title. Can't say I'm boosted. Hard stuck bronze. Even after the rank squish. Going from B5 to B3... where I always peak...
Youre still probably better than 2016 diamonds
Surprised since you're here watching spilo. You'll beat bronze soon king
@@gamist8166 agreed. Just by playing more I climbed from Bronze 5 to Plat
buy battle pass=boosted, nuff said.
Yes, I’ll admit…I’m boosted😔😏
Yes. They are. Not to mention that ow2 has less balanced matches.
