    Hello Lucy, thanks very much for answering my question about sewing with a twin needle and for providing such a comprehensive answer. The narrow zigzag sounds like a good idea and I will read your detailed blog about working with a twin needle. Your pronunciation of my name was spot on too! Ann.

    To help fit, when there's no one to help is to use another garment of the same style that fits. Measure the troublesome area on the garment that fits and transfer those mesurements to the one under construction. Take into consideration seam allowances, darts, etc. as applicable. For example to measure the back distance between the shoulders, measure that distance on the back of a shirt or blouse of the same style. Divide the increase or decrease needed in half and apply to each side of the back, if the pattern isn't laid on the fold line.
    Shoulder width, back neck to waist, armhole size, depth of neckline, sleeve length, etc. can be measured (or traced on paper) to assist in arriving at a better fit.
    Hope this helps someone.

    Thanks for answering! I had tried bias binding that I made, but It was billowing out. I suppose it may have been too thick. Ill try turning it in. Thanks!

      It's a pleasure, thanks for the questions. It is also important to very slightly stretch the binding as you sew it into place so it lies flat on the garment. I hope that helps! Let us know if you have any new questions too.

    Very clear and useful tips, thanks. I've been sewing for a while but it's always great to learn something new - like what hemming tape is for, and twin-needling with a zig-zag stitch. You mention tear-away stabiliser - so is that just tissue paper? Looking forward to your next Q&A. (Your website is down at the moment - hopefully just temporary).

    Hello I started sewing the same time as yourself and have followed you from the beginning Angela sounds amazing ( wish I had an Angela) your needle blog is extremely informative and clear in the beginning I had so many issues with this . Future tutorial request I have a high end Bernina yet I’m rubbish at coat buttonholes basically anything extra long or extra thick any help would be very appreciated thankyou

      Thank you for following us Julie, it is so good to hear that you find our tutorials and tips useful. Yes, buttonholes have been on my list for the blog/vlog for a while now so we will try and cover that off sooner rather than later. When you say extra thick do you mean extra thick fabric? When you say extra long do you mean the length of the buttonhole is extra long? Also I take it the Bernina has a one step buttonhole? Thanks.

      Sew Essential hi yes my machine has one step buttonhole and I have no problems with shirts dresses etc but if I want to use heavy wool esp over seams to make non standard extra long buttonholes for big statement buttons eg coats lined wool pinafore my needle gets stuck and makes knots underneath I have bought gadgets recommended by Bernina to level out fabric ( two metal plates also came with plastic support to put behind foot but it’s all a mystery to me how to do this just can’t figure it out . I feel frustrated and limited because I know my machine is capable it’s down to my lack of knowledge ☹️ Thankyou

    Hi Lucy. Could I inquire as to where you purchased the white table behind you, I’m looking to get one myself. The table that I’m mostly interested in is from ikea. I hope you can help. Thank You

    Very interesting video thank you, but did you know that when you click on the link for the blog you get a “scary” warning? I have used your website and ordered fabric this week with apparently no problem x

    I was wondering if you had any tips for sewing hems or if you could direct me to some good tutorials/videos.

    • @SewEssential
      @SewEssential  6 лет назад

      Hi Haley, thanks for the question, there are three articles on our blog you may find useful: how to hand stitch hems, 5 ways to machine sew hems and hem finishes on your overlocker. You can find our blog at www.sewessential.co.uk/blog and just select the 'how to sewing guides' category and you will find them all there. Hope that helps.
