  • A quick rundown of the rules gas can manufacturers must follow and how it effects day to day use. I then swap out the "eco" spout that comes with most fuel cans, including Rotopax and Fuelpax, for a self venting option that greatly speeds up the fuel pouring.
    I was able to fuel the 4Runner with the 4.5 Gallons in 2 minutes. (Which included a quick phone call that isn't in the video.)

    That is the water version of the spout. The seal base on it is smaller than the fuel one. It works, but the seal can tear easily if you over tighten it

    On 0:14 you don’t need to completely remove t-handle, just align it to the hole to remove it. On 5:33 a simple flipping the can upside to show it’s not leaking with the new nozzle and old cap is better than just put it back in and call it the day

    I assume you have to unlock the rotopax from your roof rack and stand it upright before venting it (or fuel would leak onto your 4Runner) is that right? In other words you can't slightly open it to vent while it is mounted and on it's side, is that right?

    Just purchased two 1.75 gal Rotopax fuel cans. These spouts DO NOT fit. Can't even get them halfway in. The cans have a permanent plastic sleeve inside the spout, ending in a screen. The throat is too narrow for this. Not too worried, though, as I just keep this spout in my storage box and use it when needed.

    How often do you change out the gas? Do you use fuel additives or stabilizers rather? Thanks for sharing

    • @TwistedJake
      @TwistedJake  4 года назад +5

      I don't use any additives. I just swap out the fuel every two or three months. It really isn't a big deal. I just dump the fuelpax into the rig and then the next time I need fuel I fill it back up at the same time.

    So no leaks with the new cap? My 4 gallon leaked. Filled it up at 8,000 ft then drove up to 13,000, back down to 8,000 and then back up to 9200 ft parked at a slight downward angle with it mounted flat. Seemed like it didn't leak until the next morning. Will a new gasket fix this?

  • @MakeCriminalsIllegalAgain

    I just did this 2 weeks ago and the gasoline already destroyed the gasket. It clearly wasn’t a fuel-safe gasket on my water spout.

    Hey Jake great video on swapping out the nozzle. I've heard this is the way to do it also. You have solidified the decision to swap! I'm going with the Rotopax 3Gall for my ATV. My question to you is this....mounted flat the way you have it on top of your rig, do you have any issues with it leaking at all over the time you've had it? I will be mounting on the front rack of the ATV flat. TIA, Mark

    • @TwistedJake
      @TwistedJake  4 года назад

      I just used short 1/4" carriage bolts in the cross bars of my Prinsu to mount the Rotopax mounts. Spaced the cross bars accordingly. Super simple and required nothing more than some nuts and bolts from Home Depot.

  • @roedere
    @roedere Год назад

    Ugh, now it looks like I have to cut some filter basket out of the ROTOPAX can, so the yellow nozzle with store inside. What a stupid system. If you fill dirty fuel and don't see it, then the dirt catches in the basket and is first to go into the tank of your rig.🤦‍♀

    Will I still have to vent the can daily

  • @barefooboy17

    I have two 2 gallon Rotopax cans. I got ride of the EPA Spout which is crap and got what you have, the yellow spout. Last week I went to Arizona, 116 degrees outside! My pax swelled up and unfortunately the rubber gasket failed so it was a mess. Couldn't re-mount the cans back on the ladder on the back of my truck so I had to dump 1.5 gallons of fuel and then I finally got them on. Just sharing a story here but that yellow spout is not self venting from what I can tell

    • @TwistedJake
      @TwistedJake  4 года назад +5

      I think you've misunderstood what the self venting feature is. They don't vent when the can is closed and sealed up, they vent letting air in while you dispense fuel so it comes out a bit faster without having to manipulate an EPA nozzle sleeve with your non existing third hand. The issue you experienced with swelling and gasket failure would have happened no matter what nozzle you had on there. That is why the manufacturer says to vent whenever there is bit elevation or temperature change.

      @@TwistedJake We have these safety nozzles. I don't understand why you need a third hand? Ours you just push the can to start the flow. Edit: Scratch that, just saw another vid showing the locking ring, what a pain. The nozzles work well with out it.

    How frequently do you vent it?

    • @TwistedJake
      @TwistedJake  4 года назад +3

      The trick I've figured out is that when I fill it with fuel I fill it all the way. The less air the less expansion as fuel itself won't expand. If I do that I never have to vent it after the first time. I haven't vented it in well over a month.

    • @DOCWHOK9

    when the cell is full of gas and on your vehicle, do you drive with the spout inside the can? I filled mine and thought the spout should be mounted for fuel delivering. while offroading the cans kept leaking! How are you supposed to carry fuel on board while driving? Spout inside or outside?
