Brilliant! I learned more about the Rotopax system in 11 minutes watching this than I have in the 2 months I've been considering the system for mounting fuel cans to my ATV. Sincere thanks!
I very much appreciate you taking your time to show us all the Info that ROTOPAX doesn’t seem to find important to share themselves. On a side note; what’s the point of the lock if someone can take a socket and 2 minutes later they are walking off with your gas, water and so on?! Way to go RotoPakks!!
Make sure to use thread locker on your bolts that attaches your aluminium billet block to the mounting plate ! I also used a wide strip of 3m tape to the mounting plate before I bolted it to my cargo roof rack !
Thank you for this concise video that pretty much answered all my questions. Thank you for showing the details. Especially how the rotopax lock together.
I see one fuel nozzle facing bottom and one fuel nozzle facing on top on your install. Can u make both fuel nozzle facing on top for peace of mind fuel not not leak out.
The lock is nice although if someone wanted to steal it all they would have to do is loosen the four nuts on the back so it’s kinda a bad design in my opinion.
I just purchased the locks but it doesn’t really lock the fuel can on because if you’re strong enough all you have to do is grab it and turn it I thought it was a locking system to prevent theft but once you tighten it put the lock on it can still be turned if this makes any sense or am I doing something wrong?
Can somebody (if they REALLY wanted to take them) just unbolt them from the back? I have a Tacoma and love the bedrack and looking into getting a couple of the roto packs so I’m just wondering.
A also have a uptop truss bed rack but for some reason my roto mounts can't slide close enough together to mount the gas cans sideways like yours. Any thoughts?
Granted they would need a socket but what’s to prevent someone from removing the bolts and stealing both packs? Seems to me the lock can be easily negated this way.
@@derrickpereyra That seems like an awesome suggestion. I feel like that would for sure help a bit with them not being stolen as they will have to get a wrench in a tight spot to between the rotopax and the mount, also if two are locked together like in the video they would have even less space to get to the nuts.
What is the bed cover you use on your Tacoma? I know that you have the Truss bed rack. I like the combination but was afraid that I won’t be able to fit the cover with the Truss rack. Also, did you have to do any modify to the bed cover and rack installation? Thanks!!!
Thanks for the insight and guidance. But the interlocking is worrisome. II wouldn't want my container's outlet to be facing down and risking a leakage. Any thoughts or experiences with that?
Do not like that the one spout faces down when two are locked together. You know at some point it will leak fuel all over the bed. Other than that, nice set up.
Why the hell would you want to carry a can full of gas upside down with the fill nozzle and cap facing straight down...... just asking for trouble and I dont care how good the gas can lid is and locked it will sooner or later come loose and leak.
It seems such a terrible idea to have the nozzle able to point down like that. If it ever springs a leak it’s just gonna dribble. I guess I’ll pair a fuel with a water and let the water point down. I’d rather leak water for dishes and such than gasoline all over the place. Also I’d suggest leaving them empty, at least the gas otherwise you’re offering AndyTifa types to turn your truck into a Molotov Cocktail. Also why the hell doesn’t RotoPax offer sets of say 2,3,4…6 like keyed lock cylinders so you can use just one key?
Hmmm… Why lock it in the front, when all you have to do is loosen the 4 bolts in the rear to remove it? (If you only have a single one). I guess it’s to stop those quick “snatch-and-grab” folks, huh?
Take that spout and throw it away. they are a giant pain in the butt. Use the Rotopax spout . smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ETRWLS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I looked at the locking mounts but they have bad reviews. They either fail to lock or wont unlock. I run a high security chain through the handles and have 8 locks keyed alike so I only have to carry one key for all my gear.
You realize anyone can just unscrew the whole thing and steal it with the mounts, right? :D Also without grovers those are gonna unscrew on their own after a few dozen miles.
You can buy security nuts online that you have to use a special socket for. I would go that route. The thieves are more likely to steal my gas can in the bed of my truck that’s held down with bungee cords
I see tons of people rolling around with these and Max Trax in Denver. I doubt they ever run any trails as I almost never see this setup on trails. I do 30 or more every year. It looks hard-core at the malls. Surefire way to tell. Look for pinstripes on the vehicle. No strips no trails.

Or drill a hole on the bottom and drain the gas out.
Why would anyone lock two end to end? Wouldn't that force you to take both off just to access one? Thanks for the video.
If you are that low on fuel, I would bet you are going to use both cans.
$80 Legos. Wild idea, I would like to see MaxTrax have a fuel carrying version of their trax. I know, I'm crazy.
If you mount the fuel container on top of roof rack flat, will it leak? Especially gasoline it create pressure.

Great demonstration…thanks! Going to try these on our 8020 topper build someday.
If you install into the Ladder you can also mounted? because of the ladder steps?
Does the fuelpax swell/expand more than the rotopax?
Yes
I would love to know what cover you are running with the racks since its super hard to find a combo that work together
Looks like the retrax with rails. They have a list on their website of compatible products.
Last Line of Defense uses a Diamondback bed cover. You should check out his video on it.
Check out max modular. I love mine. You can get brackets to allow it to work with most any cover
Hey Twonz, what setup you have for your bed cover, which fits with no problem with your bed rack? Make a video please.
We will work on that video soon.
Thanks for answering, blessings
@@robertyankee1 It's the Retrax cover that is compatible with the Uptop overland TRUSS bedcover version rack.
Just an FYI, you can lock the RotopaX together with both nozzle openings facing up vs one up, one down as shown in the video.
Found that out shortly after the video. Thanks though!
That was going to be my question. Thank you!
Maybe I didnt pay attention, but can't someone with an impact just undo the bolts on the back and take the whole thing?
Would be loud af and obvious. Lock only stops those without bad intentions.
That'll be the same as the truck soooooooo.
Why lock your truck when someone can just smash your windows?
What tonneau cover do you have with that bed rack? And did you have to drill into the side rails?
Looks like the retrax with rails. They have a list on their website of compatible products - you shouldn’t have to drill into them as far as I know..
Do these ever swell, or need to be vented in high heat areas? I live in Alabama.
Yeah, all plastic cans do
If i order this 2 gallon ?it comes with 2pcs 2gallon or need to order each one?
What kind of roof rack do you have on the cab of the Tacoma? I have a Tundra, looking for something on the cab. Thank you.
runnin4tacos.com/products/uptop-alpha-tacoma-double-cab-2005-2020-toyota-tacoma?_pos=2&_sid=18ca334d9&_ss=r
This is the roof rack.
Does the fuel pax need extension for the mount? Cause as far as I see it Is 4.5 inches deep vs Rotopax 3 inches thanks
Can somebody (if they REALLY wanted to take them) just unbolt them from the back?
I have a Tacoma and love the bedrack and looking into getting a couple of the roto packs so I’m just wondering.
Colton Smither good question!
Yeah someone could unbolt it from the back. Maybe some special bolts for the future eh?
Colton Smither I guess you could mount something on the opposite side to cover the bolts. Just thinking that it might work.
Put a tack weld on the bolt
Put some red lock tite on it, that should help cause a thief some grief.
Cool video thanks. Going to do a build with these Roto Pax, now I understand how they work.
Do they have to be mounted vertically with the spout at the top? Or is it safe to mount them laying flat on a roof rack? I'm concerned about leakage.
There are lots of people that mount them flat as well. Just make sure the spout is tight.
A also have a uptop truss bed rack but for some reason my roto mounts can't slide close enough together to mount the gas cans sideways like yours. Any thoughts?
Great video buddy thanks for showing how they work... video I was looking forv😎🤘
Gonna order some today, just didn't know what to get.
Glad we helped!
Thanks for the video guys. Have a great weekend

Agreed, it just makes it a little harder for people to take it off rather than a few turns
@@Runnin4Tacos Maybe the bolts are installed backwards? the nuts should be by the rotopax?

Is there a smaller unti to mount on a trail bike for long trips in the outback?

upTOP has a version for the Retrax bed cover, we will make a video for it.
Thank you for explaining the difference. do you carry diesel in this or petrol/gas ?
Gas on red, diesel on yellow, and water on white
How tall is it when it’s clipped together?
Thanks for the insight and guidance. But the interlocking is worrisome. II wouldn't want my container's outlet to be facing down and risking a leakage. Any thoughts or experiences with that?
You can flip it and both will be facing up
around 50k with the fuelpax, no issues, never driven over them either, surprisingly....
Thanks. I have been considering these and this helps.
Should do a video on the new bed topper thats what i wanna do, do they make a mid height so tent isnt so tall
What cover is that? Does uptop make brackets for bed covers?
Retrax, upTOP has a version for it. We will make a video for it.
@@Runnin4Tacos do you have issues with the retrax leaking? Is it the Retrax ONE or PRO?
Just need a way to stealth them so people are not tempted to take them, nice video.

Lol totally agree.
