I Wish I Had Done This Sooner! - MagicFour Gas Can Vent

- One task I used to dread was filling up my zero turn lawn mower with fuel. The safety spouts on today's gas can turn this into a very tedious process. I would have to constantly pull the spout out and allow air to flow back into the can to get the fuel to flow at a decent rate, up to a dozen times for 5 gallons of fuel. Well no more. Adding this little vent cap makes all the difference in the world. I only wish I had done it sooner.

I also absolutely despize those subpar gas caps with no vents. Buying one of these vents. Thank you!
Good idea! I thought i had to mount the vent next to the opening!
While not as elaborate your demonstrated model, my frustration with new cans flow led me to a cheaper plastic venting alternative that so far has worked fine to increase flow. It is very similar to vent on the first ever plastic can I bought 45 years ago that still works fine. I bought a couple of No Spill cans for a particular use and they flow fine as is. My frustration with No Spill is filling the darn things. They have something called a flame mitigation device. To me the only thing it mitigates is the rapid fueling of the can. That's an easy fix too. Just yank 'em out. I am on the dark side of 70 and never saw a fire filling a gas can.
No Spill gas can is matter.
Thank you for providing such an excellent video, which has helped gas can to increase the flow rate significantly.
I'm liking this o-ringed metal version over the plastic one, worth a try. If the rubber doesn't hold up then I might try a 'pops-a-vent' which I just learned about, which you can install with a sealant for a stronger seal.
Hi Ben. Agree those safety spouts are a hassle. I got around it with the SureCan 5 gal. Gasoline Can, model SUR50G2.
Thanks for all the good tips.
Those are exactly the models I carry on the job trailer.
SureCan 5 gal is a great product.
If the knurled cap was longer and had small holes drilled in the upper portion, wouldn't have to take cap off, just loosen and back off to vent through cap side holes.
I have been using a battery powered transfer pump for some time now!
Much easier and with the heavy 5 gallon cans no more lifting and holding while dispensng fuel!
Very useful info. Thank you!
Used this vent on a harbor freight Jerry Can by Midwest industries. Best setup now and will last my lifetime.
I've just added a car tubeless tyre valve with inner valve removed in my Gerry cans works a treat
Hey Ben .there has been some videos of a DIY hack of using a valve stem and just taking the core out . But the unit you have here is pretty sweet .
I hadn’t seen that hack before. I’m good with it no more than with these things cost.
@@txtoolcrib . I agree . I didn't mean anything was wrong with what you bought . Ben keep up the good videos
Replacing a valve stem is actually less expensive. The only issue you need to consider is switching to a fuel-resistant o-ring type.
I use the valve stem hack in my metal Gerry cans works a treat
Tire valve works excellent, just take the core out.
You are right. Replacing a valve stem is actually less expensive. The only issue you need to consider is switching to a fuel-resistant o-ring type.
I was looking for diagonal cutter reviews and I remember your channel and see if you did any. You only did bolt cutters. Any plans for diagonal cutter video in the future? Maybe a twin force knipex.
Nice upgrade would be even nicer had they put a piece of wire attached to the cap so can loosen and not drop or loose roll off into that blackhole like a 10mm socket lol
Any idea the size of drill bit this takes. I already have holes in my cans that are sized to rubber valve stems. I can’t go any smaller.
Looks like a gutted Schrader valve.
Awesome, Tie some dental floss to the wire on the inside and it will be easier to pull out the wire
I want to replace the silly plastic vent caps that are on my cans with these but NO WHERE in any of the instructions nor in the videos of these MagicFour caps does it say what size hole you need???
Do yourself a favor & get the Eagle 5 Gallon Red Galvanized Gas Can with the funnel that attaches to it, there’s not a better 5 gallon can anywhere.
I carry that style for the work trailer. They are fairly expensive for a gas can that I may use at home three times a year though.
@@txtoolcrib I don’t use’em much more than that myself but it’s worth it to me to never have to worry about them turning over during transport & never spilling a drop when filling my lawn mower up, I got 2 of em’ I keep ‘em’ locked up cause I had one walk off a couple years ago.
Eagle 5 Gallon Red Galvanized Gas Can is a great one.
Do these also work on the Eagle metal gas cans? Thanks
I’d tape or lash a line to the bent end of that wire so I wouldn’t need to fish it back through to remove it.
This may be a stupid question, but can't you just use the gas can without this attachment and use a funnel in the mower?
Not that style.
Yes, funnels were around long before these Epa spouts came along , good question…
Did you pull the white flash arrestor sleeve out to get that through the neck, or just drill a hole in it?
I pulled it out.
I believe you must remove it before installation. If you're searching for a quick way to install it in 10 seconds or less, I recommend the ZOOYL Air Ducky gas can vent.
Bad spill 4:38
How are the O-rings holding up after one year, to the ethanol in the gas?
Zero issues, other than my brother stole it from me and it is currently in the back of his truck running back-and-forth between oil rigs.
5:39 Rubber seal for gasoline? That should not last for long. I think gasoline will eat it fast.
Likely nitrile o rings
You are right.
I am sure your viewers are smart enough to know this, but it goes without saying...Empty the gas can completely first!
Its just a dumb idea they took a design that nothing was wrong with and modified it instead of making it better they made it much worse
No they just wrecked it for the whole world because one person probably got hurt and sued someone. 🤦
