I appreciate immensely the clear cut analysis of the situation and an unequivocal condemning of the war crimes taking place. In America, our politicians are gaslighting us about the conflict. Thank you for being clear about the need to end this violence, and about Barrera’s situation.
I know what you mean. It's odd that saying "Genocide is wrong. Purposely targeting civilians is atrocious AND a war crime." We've let Israel get out of control, they are bound to start more wars with other countries the way they act. They literally just bombed a UN School, WITH NOTHING AROUND IT. A 'certain' wing has somehow gotten MORE illogical and extreme.

Yeah, except it’s not really what is going on in Gaza, but okay. The IDF is fighting a terrorist organisation that thoroughly has embedded itself into the population, infrastructure and even into the ground in one of the most densely populated areas of the world. Even so, the IDF still send out warnings before going into an area. They encourage people to leave. And they investigate accusations of crimes done by their soldiers. I'll be honest: I'm a little sad John Woo doesn't care about superhero movies, as I'd love to see him make one. Whether it's the more muted violence (but still action heavy) MI2 or something a little more graphic like Hardboiled, he's a great action director, and I'd love to see what he'd do with a superhero film (and which one he'd make - would it be the obvious Punisher or maybe Daredevil, or a ridiculous Hawkeye film?). That said, if he doesn't like them, that's unfortunate, but I don't blame him for it.
Re: Ridley Scott’s movies: His biggest flaw as a director imho, has always been that he doesn’t pay enough attention to the scripts. He’s much more focused on the visual aspects of his productions, and the performances can sometimes be off as a result.
you should do a caravan of garbage for all three Kung Fu Panda movies (IMO one of the best animated trilogies of all time. Well that is until the 4th movie comes in a couple months)
Definitely check out The Duelists. It's one of my favorite Ridley Scott films. It's absolutely phenomenal if you love sword fighting. Also it's funny because the real story is actually MORE over the top than the film.
My dear imaginary friends Maso&James (literally my best friends), I love you so much. I was already assuming what your stance on the issue must be, yet I wasn't expecting you to explain (nobody has to) BUT STILL........... finally hearing is really nice. Thanks ❤️
The reason the studio wanted less John Goodman in Kong Skull Island was because Legendary is chinese owned, so they didn’t know who he was, on top of the tradition of those studios to favour young stars. This is also why Jing Tian was so shoe-horned into the movie, she became really popular in chinese tv the years prior

Sorry, this turned out longer than I expected, I hope you guys read it regardless, but just know I have tremendous respect for you even if we disagree. I'll start by saying a few things: 1. I love you guys and the podcast, and have been a long time listener. 2. I am Israeli, and I was in Israel on the October 7th attack. I know people who were murdered, brutalized and kidnapped (including toddlers and a baby). 3. I think the death of civilians and widespread destruction happening in Gaza is tragic and heartbreaking. No one, especially children should ever die in warfare or endure such conditions. So on to what I actually wanted to say: I agree that the firing of Melissa Barrera was entirely uncalled for, showing sympathy to human suffering should never be punished, no matter what your politics are. I hope she finds other better projects (the Scream franchise has been running on fumes for a while). That said, I do feel that there is a certain sentiment coming from the voices who call for a cease-fire (you guys as well) that pretty much absolves Hamas of any accountability. Yes, Israel is dropping bombs and leading attacks that result in civilian casualties, but that is greatly exacerbated by the fact that Hamas is using civilians as human shields, building their command centers in schools and hospitals, shooting at people trying to evacuate to safe zones, provoking attacks from safe zones. Should a terrorist organization get a free pass for committing atrocities because they use their own population as human shields? I understand the desire to call for an immediate cease fire, believe me there is nothing I want more for the bloodshed and wars to stop, but I'm not sure you understand that since October 7th Israelis (not just the Jews) are living in fear. We put on a brave angry face for the international media, but we're a small country, we all heard first hand testimonies of what happened, we all saw the horrible videos the Hamas terrorists gleefully shared on social media as the massacre was happening, helpless to do anything as more and more light was shed on the depth of the brutality and sadism involved. Children all over Israel are afraid of sleeping in their own beds, women are terrified to go out of the house after seeing what befell the young women victimized by the Hamas perpetrators. This is what we're fighting for in Gaza, for the de-throning of a terrorist organization that committed atrocities against us, and that promised to do so again and again if given the chance, for our own safety. When you call for Israel to have a ceasefire without calling Hamas to surrender and release the Israeli hostages they are holding, you are basically asking Israel to favor the lives of citizens of an enemy state (unfortunately Hamas is governing Gaza) over the lives of their own citizens. I understand the desire for it, I really do, but it's a pretty tall order for any country. This isn't America or Australia sending troops to Iraq to fight a war that has no bearing on the everyday lives of these countries' citizens, this is a country fighting a war to restore the sense of security of its own citizens.
I'm sorry that you're living in fear. I think the people being bombed daily are also living in fear, for what that's worth to you. No one is 'calling on' Hamas to surrender for the same reason that people outraged at the thousands of civilian deaths in the Middle East didn't 'call on' ISIS to surrender while protesting drone strikes. Hamas has no diplomatic relations with western governing bodies and are not being actively supplied with weaponry and diplomatic support by said governing bodies. The call for a ceasefire is because innocent people are actively being slaughtered en masse by a military force that does have diplomatic relations with western governing bodies and is actively being supplied with weaponry and diplomatic support by them. Those outraged over the atomic bomb didn't excuse the crimes of Imperial Japan or think WWII didn't need to end; those outraged over the Mai Lai Massacre did not excuse the crimes of the Viet Cong. This is no different.
I understand your sympathies for Gazans, but the IDF has the man power for ground invasions to not kill entire families. The human shield argument is hurtful, they didn't choose to be in this war, and even kind people like yourself are trying to justify their deaths, because there's a small chance a terrorist is beneath a hospital.
I love how these big revolutionary moments were depicted as a back and forth, then a monologue ripping someone to pieces and then everyone charged at them in rage
What amazes me about the people calling for people like Melissa to be cancelled is this assumption of a Jewish Hive Mind or Arab Hive Mind. Also I *do* condemn Hummus

That said, if he doesn't like them, that's unfortunate, but I don't blame him for it.
Trailers ahoy : I hope you guys are talking about the Furiosa trailer while recording tomorrows podcast
Re: Ridley Scott’s movies:
His biggest flaw as a director imho, has always been that he doesn’t pay enough attention to the scripts. He’s much more focused on the visual aspects of his productions, and the performances can sometimes be off as a result.
Also, The Duellists is a phenomenal film that everyone should check out.
you should do a caravan of garbage for all three Kung Fu Panda movies (IMO one of the best animated trilogies of all time. Well that is until the 4th movie comes in a couple months)
Definitely check out The Duelists. It's one of my favorite Ridley Scott films. It's absolutely phenomenal if you love sword fighting. Also it's funny because the real story is actually MORE over the top than the film.
Thank you for speaking on Palestine
My dear imaginary friends Maso&James (literally my best friends), I love you so much. I was already assuming what your stance on the issue must be, yet I wasn't expecting you to explain (nobody has to) BUT STILL........... finally hearing is really nice. Thanks ❤️
The reason the studio wanted less John Goodman in Kong Skull Island was because Legendary is chinese owned, so they didn’t know who he was, on top of the tradition of those studios to favour young stars. This is also why Jing Tian was so shoe-horned into the movie, she became really popular in chinese tv the years prior
WE DA BEST RECORDO MONTELBAN
Aw yay!!! I was like 'I want them to do the Stevie Wonder birthday song, but they prolly don't know it-'
AND THEN THEY DID IT!! 😂 So happy!

Hot take Jackie Chan's karate kid movie is really underrated- the kung fu and philosophy is portrayed really well and jackie and jaiden smith are both really good. Also in kung fu panda he's monkey
Mmmm...Monke.
yea i like karate kid it was the coolest shit when i was a kid
If your not a stickler for historical accuracy or dialog this movie is pretty cool.
Love you boys. Represent. ✊🥰🇦🇺
Maso better be eating a big sandwich during this podcast 🤔👍
I assume there is a French production of a Napoleon biopic that isn’t insulting to historians..?
I know Kubrick was obsessed with a Napoleon film.
Maybe an English language adaptation of a famous Frenchman’s life is just unnecessary
My first comic (at the age of 6) was Tomb of Dracula #13!
I always knew you two were real gs
The Duellists is great! Very Barry Lyndon-esque.
Weekly planet on the right side of history per usual
Except for James giving Batman vs Superman a "Best Movie Ever"
.....and the covid stuff it turns out
@@MrTwon1610idk what there take was on covid but if they said get vaccinated they were on the right side of history again. If I have to explain that to you then your head is empty
@@MrTwon1610 my aunt didn't get vaccinated and my uncle did. She died he didn't. Over 1 million deaths in america from covid. Still waiting for those vaccines to turn everyone gay or whatever you guys thought would happen

oh wow, i didn't know australia was this corrupt too. holy shit. learn something new everyday and also she was right. i hope the movie bombs. it's crazy you can't mentioned the obvious war crimes by both of these people
“War crimes by both of these people” James and Maso did war crimes? 😮
@@EvelynRyley What do you think is in those Big Sandwiches? Cannon fodder straight from the battlefield meatgrinders!

James like Star wars has always been political, you were just too young to get it.
I haven’t seen the napoleon movie but I’m assuming the big hat stays on during his terrible lovemaking
wow you guys made my day with that reasonable and humane take on the gaza nightmare
As someone familiar with the history, i cannot express how disappointing this movie was. It's weirdly vindictive, the inaccuracies are absolutely everywhere, and Ridley Scott's attitude towards the history is really telling.
The title is the greatest thing in the history of the universe.
I can't tell if that guy is in a movie called Big Train, or if they're riffing on the movie Bullet Train which features a big train
Thank you for standing against gen0cide at a time where its controversial to do so
I don’t know about this Napoleon movie. I probably would’ve changed some things. Maybe rewrite which battles he won and lost. One thing in particular is not let him lose the Waterloo battle.
2:20 😅
I for one, am outraged that these lads would adopt such a controversial political stance as "Human children don't deserved to be carpet bombed"
So woke smh.
That sums it up pretty well.
No matter what anyone believes,
We should all quickly agree that killing innocent children is wrong.
In Theory that is,
In reality though we live in a truly sick world.
Haha the pathetic, woke, "children shouldn't be massacred" position
@Henez89 it's hard to really tell the tone of your comment. Could be sarcastic, could be genuine. Everything sucks
@@chrisfoye1574 I'm choosing sarcasm.
But I'm wrong most of the times that I'm expecting positive things .
It was sarcasm, but I concede that you really can't be sure when you read that, and that is depressing
what a flawlessly simple and on point take on what’s happening to Palestine. it’s been wild to watch so many supposedly Leftist content creators both-sides this obvious genocide or just avoid the topic all together. always pleasantly surprised to hear this upbeat pop culture podcast more consistently anti-colonist than more overtly political content creators.
Napoleon Biopic. No mention of Bill and Ted, no San Dimas Mall. Disgraceful.
It's actually the movie Joker.
The Duelists is Sofa King good.
"is Shrek 2 okay?" 💀💀
Watch the righteous gemstones. It’s worth it
Lucasfilm has the story group. Which is there to make sure everything fits and doesn’t break canon

Has Mason been eating for every episode and I’ve just noticed? Very unprofessional…
Maybe not all, but many of them. Favourite moment is when James is like "vampires don't have..." and Maso goes "working dicksh?" while eating something
Awww you ok lil buddy? Do you need an adult?

Has anyone seen the new netflix show "blue eye samurai"? I bet the guy who knows everything about anime, knows everything about this show
Sorry, this turned out longer than I expected, I hope you guys read it regardless, but just know I have tremendous respect for you even if we disagree.
I'll start by saying a few things:
So on to what I actually wanted to say:
I agree that the firing of Melissa Barrera was entirely uncalled for, showing sympathy to human suffering should never be punished, no matter what your politics are.
I understand you're scared, but obviously Hamas is a bad thing. That doesn't change the fact that Palestinian women and children are in danger too.
7:42 well put🤙

The Duelists is a fantastic film. One of the great films of the 1970s.
I actually don't think anyone lives on Francs per year anymore as France has adopted the Euro ;)
It's gone the way of the Deutschmark.
Edit - Scratch that TIL the Swiss indeed still use the Franc.
Fourteen countries in Africa still use the franc, because the past is never dead (it's not even past).
Switzerland doesn't use THAT franc however, they use the Swiss franc which is a different currency.
Kinda like there are different kinds of dollars.
