35:45 I somewhat get that people were irritated by Shin Godzilla, but the core message of the movie is the direct criticism of the borderline dysfunctional Japanese government that is crippled by its bureaucracy. I thought using the Godzilla setting for this kind of message was just brilliant.
frankly, if you didnt like shin godzilla “because it had too many meetings” you literally didnt get the movie. which isn’t necessarily an insult even, its a dense movie thats primarily subtext tying together the Japaneses’ history with nuclear weaponry and the real world recent incident at Fukushima, and governmental response to said incidents, and all the faults that lie within a system made of too many checks and balances, and what happens when its pushed to its breaking point. Its not great for people who just want to see the legendary version of godzilla AKA big monsto punch big other monsto
This is always the reply I see in regards to the pacing of shin. I think it kind of assumes the people that don’t like it are ignorant to the point of the movie. Just because there’s a warranted political criticism baked in does not make the pacing any less dreadful and those scenes any more anchored to a sense of real stakes. By the 10 minute mark of on screen meeting you get the point and yet it is repeatedly dwelled on in the same way. The characters don’t end up aggravating viewers as intended but the screenplay does instead.
I recognize Shin's strengths, and how it was made specifically to criticize the Japanese government. But come on, there are reasons to dislike the movie and still understand the message. For example, the pacing of Shin Godzilla as a whole is an absolute wreak. Anyone can't recognize that the film _slams_ to a stop after the Sea of Fire scene is in denial.
@@Telcontar86 dude I absolutely agree, I just said I somewhat get that people are bored by it but that I thought it's brilliant that they used the Godzilla backdrop for criticism of local politics. So heartwarming to see two brothers get along so well. Reminds me of my grandfather and his brother, they grew up on a farm back in the 1930’s but as the war approached things got rough. The winters were cold and unforgiving and things got worse and worse. One year things got so bad they called their yield the Blue Harvest which is coincidentally the working title of the original Star Wars Movie.
I absolutely LOVED Minus One and have not stopped telling people about. So, so good. I still rate Shin Godzilla higher but that's a really tough choice to make, they are wildly different movies.
There is footage on RUclips of Miyazaki walking around his animators at work, giving them a hard time for not working hard enough or knowing what they are doing. An amazing, talented guy, but a terrifying boss. The culture is one where people work SO hard.

Wasn't Disney just throwing the Director of The Marvels under the bus two weeks ago, saying she wasn't even in the editing booth for the film and had already moved on to new projects? If the director wasn't in charge of the final edit, and the according to Iger the executives weren't in charge either.... Who was? The Mystery of the Movie That No One Wants To Admit They Made!!!
No he said there weren't executives supervising during the shooting of the film but even that doesn't make sense because they get daily updates. In reality, it was just a poorly made and conceived movie on every level and no one wants to take the blame for it.
Considering how much damage executives have done to marvel prior to this, Igers statement comes across like he's trying to protect a family member who rolled in on a whim and Mr. Beaned all over the final edit.
This opening had me laughing so hard, I had to focus extra hard on driving home. Just got back from Godzilla Minus One, in preparation for this episode. It may be THE GREATEST Godzilla entry in a long time. Most of the action takes place on the water, with Godzilla taking on very outmatched ships, which gives it a Dunkirk-meets-Jaws scenario. Godzilla is absolutely terrifying, and I was legitimately stressed during every encounter. See it IMAX if you have the opportunity.
Its cool that VogtRoberts responds and comments about your videos, it not only is good to see you guys get high end recognition but also he gives us so much more info about the production process of the monsterverse

I also like Godzilla depiction as more of an empathetic monster. According to the lore, in this film, the reason he's attacking humans is he knows theyre responsible for using the bomb on him. Theres also the earlier scene where he doesnt act very aggressive to the mechanics at first. He only gets aggressive when they aggrevate him. It just feels like he's a wild animal who has gone in a flight response, and having affect of a nuclear bomb has put that into overdrive.
Really love that you guys liked this movie. As a Godzilla fan since I was a kid this movie is everything I could have hoped for and more. Definitely one of my favorite Godzilla movies. Best movie ever.
I saw a Japanese commentator's video here on RUclips who highlighted the black vein-like thing that was on Noriko's neck at the end of the movie. I appreciated the vfx approach they took in Shin Godzilla - that thing is completely alien, and just covered in gross scabs, his proportions are weird. So he’s all cgi. 0:01 left a like way before the request.
fun fact josh brolin is the same age as batman in the dark knight returns !
Ron Perlman for Dark Knight Returns.
Cheers mates !
It took real courage to cancel movies and fire people. So brave and stunning.
Isn't a panzerotti just a giant deep fried pizza ball? Maybe they don't have those in Australia? Inquiring minds want to know!!
yes and its amazing
The Tomorrow-verse isn't about "The War that Came Tomorrow", the Yvonne Strahovski Netflix flick with also Mario in it?
This Godzilla felt so much like if Dunkirk but Jaws. As a longtime fan of both Toho and you guys, this was a solid Godzilla movie. He was not a nice man.
Also if you wanna dip your toes in the action goof of the old japanese films, Godzilla Final Wars. its like anime made film in a big event that showcases the whole genre
Christmas with the Kranks by Michael Crichton
For those who don't know, in Shin Godzilla, the board room meetings were on purpose as a critic of how inefficient Japanese Gov. is
Really can't wait to see this one.... when it comes available on a streaming platform I already pay for... hopefully.
Ever since they changed to x and mark hamil did like a no twitter tuesday i have not been back on
Kurt Russell for Dark Night? He looks good in Monarch. Maybe he can full off old bruce wayne. Or maybe Brian Cox.
Brian cox?
Yeah he already plays Logan in succession. So he already has the billionaire part done. Hehe...
Godzilla Minus One is easily the best Godzilla film since Godzilla vs Biollante, and the best monster movie since Jurassic Park.
Go see it in theaters while you can. Seriously
SPOILER WARNING
My dumb arse thinking its minus one cause its a
Prequel to shin
Shin Godzilla being part 1
Godzilla 2023 being part -1
I literally felt chills go down my spine many times, the synergy between Godzilla‘s rampage and the human characters is phenomenal. It’s like the perfect recipe when they have a slasher movie that you has all the characters being likable
I definitely love how they upgraded Godzilla’s atomic blast, definitely gives off BFG 9000 vibes compared to before
Hell, you got my thumb blokes.
Its funny how the only thing yall talk about in the doctor stenage 2 movie is the pizza balls lol like nothing to do with doctor strange
Is it just me who had the thought of Godzilla furiously paddling his fat legs under the surface treading water? Like how a swan does it?
What movie/tv show are they referencing at 1:02:56? The audio gets muddled as they talk over each other
In America Godzilla minus one is leaving theaters by December 7th. So if people plan to go this weekend they won’t be able to find it.
Jeff Bridges = Superman
Kurt Russell = Batman
Been a fan for maybe 8 years? Whenever that animation of Batman vs Superman went up. Devastated as a RUclips boy that I wasn’t the top listener but what do you expect. You dog avocado
