    Thanks for sharing this diagnostic and repair video, Terrence. My 2012 Chrysler just began this same ticking sound. Although I am not too savvy under the hood, at least I have some idea of what's going on and what's necessary to remedy the problem. Plus, I will get all spark plugs changed. Keep sharing your knowledge. I appreciate you.

    One word of advice, when you are checking for rocker arm movement you need to make sure the raised portion of the cam lobe is not pushing on the rocker arm, otherwise even if it is bad it won't move because the valve is open and the rocker arm is in a loaded condition. That may be why the engine is still a little noisy, usually more than one has failed. Thanks for the video, it helped a lot in repairing my Durango.

      Wes R. If you still the tick then mostly likely something else is wrong. How did the cam lobes look. If they had any uneven wear that is most likely the cause and without a cam replacement its going to tick.

    I appreciate you and the video! I just took mind back to the dealership after I told him it was my rockers 1 and 2 and my cam 1 and 2 but this was still under warranty so I wasn't gonna mess with it anyway they told me that my car was ready and charged me a thousand dollars i drove it home and next day to work but on my lunch break i still heard it ticking so today i just took it back and told him they didn't fixed anything yet charged me 1,000 for oil pan and seals 🤬🤬 dude had the nerve to tell me 2015 - 300s motors sounds like that SMDH and YOU KNOW WHAT I TOLD HIM DUDE IM A engineer i been building motors for over 30 years and when i brought this car it wasn't ticking so you either fixed my car or give me my money back from the sell and ill go elsewhere to buy another one from some other dealership! I'll let you know what happens when they get done with mine even the sales man told him my car wasn't ticking when he sold me the car so that's a plus. I think they thought they had a dumb ass person who was gonna say oh okay since you said it supposed to sound like that 🤔 smdh dude better fixed my car right this time or ill have him on fox6 ripping folk's off charging for nothing and that supposed to be covered with the warranty im only supposed to have paid 100 deductible Not no 995.00 for seals and oil pan witch wasn't even leaking. Boi im heated right now! My point is pay close attention to who you let work on your car. You know your ride is almost like your best friend.

    What causes these rockers to fail prematurely? Is it faulty rockers, or is it faulty design of the engine-like lack of lubrication? Will replacing all the rockers with new ones cure the problem?? Thanks!!

  • @dale797
    @dale797 Год назад +2

    My conclusion now is that the shaft in the rocker arms is not tight in there because if the bearing wears out and jams, then the shaft can spin in the rocker arm for awhile and hopefully not spoil the camshaft. Now it is about 3 years ago that I had to replace two rocker arms about a month apart. At that time I disconnected the wiring on the back of the motor that goes to the solenoid that throws the oil pump into low range after the engine is warmed up and going at higher RPMs. Now the oil pump always stays in high range which gives me about 65 PSI going down the highway instead of the previous about 25 lbs-and the engine has worked perfect for the three years!!!!!!

      @tvterrencetee9460  3 года назад +2

      @@greeneiez8304 thanks for the reply. If it turns out to be a lifter then yes its going to be expensive to repair simply because the mechanic would have to break that side of the motor all the way down to replace it and at that point it would be a good thing to replace them all on that side but in those cars the lifter is very much less likely to be the cause of that ticking sound. 90% of the time its always the rocker arm. I would suggest that since you are a female that you take a male with you and let him do the talking simply because a good bit of mechanics seem to overcharge women customers.

    I got my 2013 Grand Caravan apart, and the intake rocker on the intake in the middle of the back head was shot. Thankfully the cam is still OK, and all the other rockers and the lifters are all OK. So I went to town and picked up 3 rockers from the Dodge dealer to have a couple extra ones. But when I got them home and was looking them over closely and comparing them to the old one-I noticed that the little shaft can be moved back and forth in the cage with my fingers, whereas the old rocker shaft was nice and tight, but its shaft was worn on the inside because the roller can be flopped up and down but not back and forth. Were your new rocker shafts loose in the cage so that they could be shoved back and forth? This doesn't seem to me like it would last very long before the hole in the rocker cage would start to wear oblong!!!

      Thanks for watching my video and thanks again for the question.
      My professional advice would be to get it taken care of as soon as you can but I can understand you having to drive it being that it's your only vehicle and you have to get to work but sadly in doing this you risk the chance of server damage to the engine if that pushrod dislodges itself which is held in place by the rocker/rocker arm. It could cause the engine to lock up/cease and by the way that ticking noise is just going to get louder and louder until it's fixed or the rocker arm fails.
      I hope this helps you in making your decision on what to do with it. HAPPY NEW YEAR and stay safe🖐👍

      @@phigo4kins From what I've learned about this issue as it pertains to the 5.7 hemi, the design does cause some oil starvation near the lifters and camshaft at low RPM. So basically the more you let the car idle, the more wear it will get. Recommended to never go below 1500 RPM while driving, ideal range is 1800 to 2000 RPM to make sure that oil is splashing up in to the little spaces it needs to get to. The most common is the number one cylinder will eventually misfire because the lifter roller seizes up and chews the hell out of the cam lobe. Generally poor lifter design for the factory lifters. Uncle Tony's Garage has a good video about explaining the oil starvation issue. I watched another video of a guy doing a repair and he replaced his lifters with the Hellcat lifters from Mopar because they are more robust in the design. A lot of people also do an MDS delete because I guess that system causes issues too. I have 2010 Challenger and it's starting to get a little noisy so I'm worried about this rocker arm and lifter issue :(

    • @phigo4kins
      @phigo4kins 4 года назад

      @@ianmastrangelo2427 I feel you on the Hemi Engines, those RARELY Have Lifter issues. They dont even use lifters. They use Push Rods. I too have a Hemi 5.7. The main issue with those are the Valve Seats, dont let your engine overheat. I've seen the well cared for engines reach over 300k miles. But, the engine in this video is the new 3.6 Pentastar V6 Engine, not the V8s/Hemis. And that's what we are talking about having all these Valvetrain issues even until this new day and age of technological Advancements that you'll think these car makers will have learnt how to make durable engine by now. Despite their notorious History with engines.

      @@phigo4kins No doubt, sadly it's a common theme with Chrysler products, having valve issues of any kind that can lead to catastrophic engine damage is just extremely poor design, they should be all over this non-stop or doing a recall. I'm aware of the valve seat issue with the Hemi as well, but they do use lifters and one or more of the rollers will seize and literally grind out a huge notch in the cam shaft lobe. Just look up a "Hemi tick" video and you will see what I mean, it's crazy and it's definitely a pattern. I've recently heard that newest lifter design for the 5.7 Hemi has better roller bearings. The Mopar part number is 5038784AD, that's for a non MDS engine, mine is a manual transmission so it does not have MDS. Another thing I've learned from watching all of these videos is the part numbers have those two letters on the end and when it changes from AA, to AB etc., it means it has a design revision. So being AD, these lifters have been revised 4 times lol.

    My 2013 300c makes the same noise on the passenger side. I took it to Firestone they told me $12k for a whole new engine. Dealership won’t even look unless I pay $600. Does this cause the check engine light to stay on?

    Funny, I just replaced a rocker in the exact same position. The reason I had the cover off was to replace the gaskets. Fortunately the lobe was in the up position so removal was easy. The ticking quieted a lot.

      Too late for you, but I had a tick appear in my 3.5L '02 Intrepid. It was right around income tax time, so I put it off for a week or two. Big mistake. The roller came out of the rocker and got caught between the rocker & the head and it broke a hole into the top of the head all the way into the water jacket. Steam, water, oil everywhere. Ruined the head. Different engine, but I would not recommend putting off taking care of it.
