Thank you for explaining the wire colors. I wasn’t sure about how to replace since new motor had two blue wires and old motor had black and white 😊👏🏻

Thank you for this! I was able to use it to make my home fireplace silent again. Hint for others trying: I was unable to find a motor with a 4mm shaft, they only sell ones with a 7mm 1/4" shaft.
I simply got 1" of 1/4 " flexible tubing and removed the spring and used 2 - 1/4" spring clamps to hold it in place. worked perfectly.
Don't forget to check the bulbs when you have the back off!

Thank you, thank you! I was so troubled after my son came in the room laughing at me because the flames were rolling backward. I knew it was probably due to this motor, so i set out to find information about replacing it. When you said some may say CW-CCW, I thought it couldn't be that simple, could it? Sure enough, unplugging it and replugging it in fixed it. I am thrilled 😊

This is the exact info I was looking. Don't know if it will work on my fireplace or not, but will give it a shot. I have one of those newer ones with the crystal stones inside. I'll have to take it apart well before even finding the motor! I have a friend who is willing to help. Thanks for this info.

Thanks for posting this! I just replaced the same motor in our fireplace and the new one has a thicker shaft. This prohibits the spring on mirrored shaft from fitting over it. So I snipped off the narrower part of the extending spring and stretched out the remaining wider one. This made the set-screw collar unnecessary, so I slid the remaining spring over the wider shaft and secured it with some Gorilla Tape. Spliced the electrical wires like you showed, and everything works great!

Great how-to fix. THANK YOU. 👍 Our fireplace is a Southern Enterprise manufacture (made in China) , and the motor is disconnected with screws from the side. The pesky cotter pin is the hardest to get undone. Also, unclip one of the zip ties around the wiring, and follow the black and white wires to the two appropriate wire nuts to disconnect. The motor on ours says CCW ( the Jun Tuo brand) - so just match up what is on your old motor when looking online. Our fireplace gets LOTS of use (not using the heater all that much) so I will get a few extra motors, this one lasting us almost 4 years.

Mine is a simplex with similar specs but it has a third brown wire. What is that wire for? Can I get one with two wires as long as specs are the same and wire nut that third wire off? Mine is 120v also. Same as 110? 120V, 10rpm, 60hz, 2-5w, cw. It was making the same loud noise and then stopped rotating at all. There is vibration in the motor just no rotation so I’m pretty sure that’s probably the problem but I don’t know what this 3rd wire is for.

It seems like it's next to impossible to have a CW motor delivered within the next month, although CCW/CW ones are abundant for some reason. Is there any hope trying to open up the motor to repair it, or am I out of luck? It looks like it's still going to be cold for another month, so I was hoping to have this fixed before temperatures are high enough that we don't need the fireplace until next winter.

Ha Ha! I am in Canada and our Amazon was only selling CCW/CW motors. I did not know what it meant until I installed. The motor spins counterclockwise and clockwise on a random basis. ;-))) The "fire" appears to move backwards when it is counterclockwise. No big deal, but a bit annoying. Very quiet now but still hear a bit of a whirring sound.

Seems like it would probably be fine, but I'll ask just to be thorough. If all someone cares about is that it's putting out heat, is it okay to simply remove the noisy part that's creating the visuals and just to be done with it?
    EDIT:
So since this of course started happening at the coldest part of the year, I decided to just poke around in it and test for myself. So if anyone else comes wondering what I was wondering, I removed the reflector thingy and the motor. There is no light at all anymore, but the heat works fine, which is all I care about.
