Can you go back to shooting when you pick up and choose the guitar and amp and pedals? I really liked seeing you choose the stuff and the debates and choices you make
I saw BB live three times in my life. Your tone is real close. He had more gain than you think and rolled off the volume...great video. Good choice of player. I think your tone would work great for Wes Montgomery as well. Nice job.
I would immensely enjoy an episode of how to sound like B.B. King BY breaking the bank. I think it would be incredibly enjoyable and entertaining to watch and hear the sound of a more high end and possibly different rig
i personally liked seeing you guys run through the shop deciding what gear to use but i also liked the amount you guys talk about it in this version. cheers for a great video
BB King was born in Berclair, Mississippi and NOT Memphis, Tennesee. He primary guitars are a Fender Esquire, Gibson ES-5 and a Gibson ES-355. His liked the Fender Twin Reverb Tweed. But he also used a Lab Series L5 2×12" combo a lot. It had built-in compression and parametric equalization. His strings were Gibson 10-54. He used D'Andrea medium picks.
Does anyone else miss the part of the video where they look through the store for the gear because that was really entertaining and one of my favorite parts of these videos. PLEASE BRING IT BACK
I own a Sheraton identical to this. I love it. Heath Fogg, lead guitarist from Alabama Shakes plays one, as does Leon Bridges. Such a great, vintage, dark tone. The trick with them, as Rabea points out, is rolling the tone off and using the neck or middle settings. Emily Wolfe does the same. I've had mine set up with flat wounds.
This video completely answers everything I wanted to know about the Sheraton! I want a 335 guitar with that epic 335 tone, and I was thinking of saving hard and getting a Gibson reissue, but if I can get that tone out of an epiphone I’d rather get that! THANK YOU!
This video has given me a great deal of encouragement, I now understand that a complete absence of charisma doesn't necessarily hold you back. Thanks guys.
I like this series. One of the things I take from it is that a quality amp makes more of a difference than an expensive guitar. Amazing how good some of the cheaper guitars sound through quality amps.
It seems like a lot of the critics below are expecting a "Become BB King" video as opposed to what it is, which is "Sound like BB King" Relax keyboard warriors and enjoy two guys helping people afford to sound like players they love!
BB King from what I can remember also played Gibson Lab Series solid state amps, he really has more of a jazz guitar tone just with more bite and again it really comes down to the way he played as well but great job on the tones!
@@angelojester: Yes, I purchased one of his Lab Series amps from his estate (an L5, 2x12 combo, to be precise). These were only made from the late '70's to the early '80's. They were made by a collaboration between Gibson and Moog, and are solid state. They weren't cheap (about $2500.00 in todays $). B once said that they were so hard to find, he'd buy one everytime he saw one. The settings on my amp are exactly as Mr. King left them.
I really really like Bea as a guitarist, but this video show once more that it is nearly impossible to sound like B.B. King. his tone is just unmatched, it's all in his fingers and his soul
I actually picked the Sheraton 2 in part because of your video- currently saving up for a Princeton...and eventually another electric-probably a tele of some kind. Thanks for the video.
+Stefan Bulatovic Playing stuff you're NOT USED TO PLAYING is harder than playing WHAT YOU ARE USED TO. That's all that needs to be said about this. Ever. Good job getting a lot of thumbs up though, grandpa.
+TFIFH So, if I was used to playing the entire Van Halen back catalogue but only just started learning Sex Pistols songs, the Sex Pistols stuff would be harder? Thanks for clearing that up now!
Best 'Sounds Like' videos you guys have done yet! One difference Lucille has, is that it only has the one F hole on the top(bass) bout. I read an interview in which B.B. King said why he liked it like that, but I forgot why.
The fire thing is crazy, apparently they used to make massive ones in the middle of an area and people would just dance around it. Great choice on the Sheraton as well, I love mine!
+Robert Budila It's pretty hard unless you go for a particular song at a particular live gig. He was always experimenting with gear, including studio gear, and tuning.
+Robert Budila Nice distorting amp, put it on just a nice break up, so not to high gain, then add a good tone bender (this is 'the secret'), you know sound quite a bit like Jimmy
I really really appreciate you guys for doing this video and paying respects to the king of blues! Rabea you did an awesome job with the BB King licks. I know how hard it is to play BB
BB used the Vibro-Verb and Vibro-King amps mainly, I thought I read somewhere that Gibson made his guitars mainly solid body. He was such a great player and a true blues man! I love the Plimsoul!
Loved the tips on the sheraton . Ive got a sunburst one myself . Not the best guitar I own but definetly the most loved . BB king is a big ask . Hail .
It's so much fun to watch such an incredibly skilled player struggling to tame his skills in order to stay more BB-esque :) Anyway, great video and a worthy tribute to the King! ;)
really enjoying the sounds like videos. how come you dont go round the shop anymore? also how about a sounds like sounds like rolling stones or the who?
BB King was known for playing exceptionally light strings, as low as 7's. He told Billy Gibbons he was "working too hard" when he saw him with huge strings during the SRV "heavier strings are better" era, so Gibbons got Dunlop to start pulling 7's and still plays them.
so sad i couldnt go to a BB show before he died... i was a medicine student, in brazil when he passed, and had no money to atend to the shows he made here =[ but still listen to him until today! hope to get more closer to his tone with this video im 2019!
Very good video! This is like the later bb king sound, I think it covered up some of the playing as he got older. The stuff from his prime in the 60s and 70s sounded different.
Korn would be a fun one to do for tone (untouchables era) and certain stand out effects. Maybe Jack White to? Thin lizzy? Hell even Prince would be a GREAT one! Enjoy the vids guys.
I enjoyed the video! I did miss the "wandering around the shop" segment but if you've changed filming locations I can see how that may not be as practical - plus, I'm sure it vastly increased the length of time it took to shoot and edit these. Thematically, the video is tighter, so I guess you win some and you lose some. Thanks again!
As someone else pointed out B.B.King played Gibson Lab L5 amp, full transistor amps. You can pay a lot less with a good, trasparent and clean transistor amp cheaper than a Fender Pricenton, definetely.
I have a Sheraton (with natural finish) and this is a good approximation of his late-1960s/1970s tone (e.g., "The Thrill Is Gone"). If you listen to his records from earlier in the 1950s, though, he had a very dirty, raunchy sound, which he got from using a hollow body with dimed small-wattage octal tube or tweed-style amps. In the early-to-mid-1960s, he got his Live at The Regal-type tone with the semi-hollow 345 through a Super Reverb, which was much more trebly and biting than the tone aimed for here from the 1970s when he used a solid-state Lab Series L5 amp. (P.S. - I enjoy your playing, Rabea.)
I respect your efforts on the BB King tone. It's an exercise in beautiful simplicity. It's actually pretty difficult to play like the late great BB King. Beguiling actually. His touch on the instrument is all but impossible to mimic. But I enjoyed the tones!
Sound like Gary Clark Jr or Black Keys. The first is very soul and bluesy, the seconds crunchy and strong. Different gears for different styles. Please do it :D
My 1988 Sheraton (with the "Epiphone by Gibson" headstock) into a Laney VC15 does a pretty good impression. If only I could play as well as B.B. King (or Bea).
Eddie Hazel of Funkadelic would be fantastic! More specifically his tone on the album Maggot Brain. The song 'Maggot Brain' from which the album takes its name and 'Hit It and Quit It'. Thanks guys for the videos.
From what I know he used a twin and Fender Tube amps, it wasn’t till late in his career he used solid state. I could be wrong, though I also know solid states weren’t popular back in the day.
A video I've ben wanting to see would be how to sound like chuck berry! I've been trying to replicate that classic 50s-60s era rockabilly/blues/rock type tone and love the distinct sound you get from an Epiphone or Gibson semi-hollow electric!
That's a great looking guitar! I wonder if it's possible to love an epiphone when you own a Gibson? I have a 2015 Les Paul and I'm just wondering if I would like this guitar or would it just feel cheaper to me? I feel like they want way too much money for the Gibson hollow bodies
Can you go back to shooting when you pick up and choose the guitar and amp and pedals? I really liked seeing you choose the stuff and the debates and choices you make
When you go around the store looking?
+Daniel Williams 100% agreed... that was half the fun of these videos...
+Daniel Williams Yeah I agree. These new videos leaves alot to be desired really..
Definitely👍🏻
agreed Dan
I saw BB live three times in my life. Your tone is real close. He had more gain than you think and rolled off the volume...great video. Good choice of player. I think your tone would work great for Wes Montgomery as well. Nice job.
Thanks man, we had great fun doing this one!
+Troy Losse Yea, it always seemed to me that B.B. was playing through a loud Twin and worked the volume controls on Lucille.
there is no bb king tone without his vibrato, he wasn't a technical guitar player but his vibrato is one of the most soulful things i heard in my life
I would immensely enjoy an episode of how to sound like B.B. King BY breaking the bank. I think it would be incredibly enjoyable and entertaining to watch and hear the sound of a more high end and possibly different rig
BB is a legend yet still underrated. I'm so lucky to have seen him live twice... What an incredible dude
i personally liked seeing you guys run through the shop deciding what gear to use but i also liked the amount you guys talk about it in this version. cheers for a great video

so good to see Rabea playing like this. love it

I guess have already told you, but i would really appretiate if you could show footage from the store! Always loved that!
You guys sounded especially respectful this time.
Because it's a sacred monster that has just passed away at that time.
I know, that's why I pointed it out.

Playing was killer in this, nailed that tone, great video
Nice playing as always but to me this isn't even close. It likes the top end highs that BB had
no it isn't! it's really close
It seems like a lot of the critics below are expecting a "Become BB King" video as opposed to what it is, which is "Sound like BB King"
Relax keyboard warriors and enjoy two guys helping people afford to sound like players they love!
As everyone says, the best part is when you walk around the store and picking the stuff! Plz bring it back!
BB King from what I can remember also played Gibson Lab Series solid state amps, he really has more of a jazz guitar tone just with more bite and again it really comes down to the way he played as well but great job on the tones!
I've set his gear up myself. And it was a 212 Gibson lab series!!!!
@@angelojester: Yes, I purchased one of his Lab Series amps from his estate (an L5, 2x12 combo, to be precise). These were only made from the late '70's to the early '80's. I adore B.B. King, thanks for posting this video. A greeting from Spain.
I really really like Bea as a guitarist, but this video show once more that it is nearly impossible to sound like B.B. King. his tone is just unmatched, it's all in his fingers and his soul
Truth
While no one could come near his tone, one more way they could have done it was put in a lighter set of strings. Really helps with the vibrato !
@@StopTheRot I mean you can get his amp for like 500 american. He used lab series amps for decades before he died.
R.I.P BB...You are missed!
sound like Van Halen and or Steel Panther?
+Oisin McPhillips +1
+Oisin McPhillips Good luck sounding like steel panther while spending over £300
+Kim Jong Un yes, my glorious master.
I LOVE SATCHELS SOUND!
mhmeister the correct phrase is 'satchel's tone is bitchin'
I would love to see a Sound Like George Harrison, particularly his post-Beatles slide tone.
Matthew Tildesley fucking right, look at his tones on all things must pass, fucking great album
I actually picked the Sheraton 2 in part because of your video- currently saving up for a Princeton...and eventually another electric-probably a tele of some kind. Thanks for the video.
Playing guitar slow is million time harder then playing it fast.
Truth
+Stefan Bulatovic That's because it's harder to feel than it is to learn.
+Stefan Bulatovic It takes a skilled musician to know when not to play.

Awesome playing here and a great sound. Keep up the good work guy's I'm loving these.
I like the parts where your in andertons and your picking this stuff out. Great job, keep it up
The fire thing is crazy, apparently they used to make massive ones in the middle of an area and people would just dance around it. Great choice on the Sheraton as well, I love mine!
you really nailed the tone and playing style of bb, rabea. props!
Sound Like Jimmy Page. It's a must, really....
Yeah but its impossible, its the single hardest one to do! They deleted the previous video!
+Kiran Evetts yeah...well...you need to make the tubes work hard to get that page kinda distortion...it's a hard sound to get, but man, it's amazing
+Robert Budila It's pretty hard unless you go for a particular song at a particular live gig. He was always experimenting with gear, including studio gear, and tuning.
+Robert Budila Ive only seen one person on youtube get even close! Everyone uses too much distortion
+Robert Budila Nice distorting amp, put it on just a nice break up, so not to high gain, then add a good tone bender (this is 'the secret'), you know sound quite a bit like Jimmy
Beautiful playing. Sounds like Johnny Winter would be cool.
+rebootver + 1 for Johnny
Another +1
This is one of the most accurate sounding ones yet, imo. Great playing bea!
I really really appreciate you guys for doing this video and paying respects to the king of blues! Rabea you did an awesome job with the BB King licks. I know how hard it is to play BB
Playing what bb plays isn’t difficult. How he plays it however is on another planet entirely.
Great series guys. Love listening to you talk tone. "It's what you don't play...."
Surely we need a sound like Karnivool!!!! Plus I miss the part in the shop seeing you choose. Please bring it back. P,.
BB used the Vibro-Verb and Vibro-King amps mainly, I thought I read somewhere that Gibson made his guitars mainly solid body. He was such a great player and a true blues man! I love the Plimsoul!
I saw B.B. King live at a blues festival back in 99. He was amazing, nuff said.
Loved the tips on the sheraton . Ive got a sunburst one myself . Not the best guitar I own but definetly the most loved . BB king is a big ask . Hail .
It's so much fun to watch such an incredibly skilled player struggling to tame his skills in order to stay more BB-esque :)
Anyway, great video and a worthy tribute to the King! ;)
Thanks man! It's honestly so hard hahah
Andertons putting out another great series.
Miss the shopping section of these video's, keep us involved in the process :)
really enjoying the sounds like videos. how come you dont go round the shop anymore? also how about a sounds like sounds like rolling stones or the who?
Thank you! Love that tone.
i liked it better when they showed rabea and matt going round the shop looking for the stuff first but i still love the sounds like vid's alot.
Should've done "Sound like Chuck Berry" in honor of today.
I dont think anything could sound like him, he too special
Best vid yet, but please bring back the shopping stuff, they were the best bits.
Fantastic video love it. How about sound like Peter Green?
BB King was known for playing exceptionally light strings, as low as 7's. He told Billy Gibbons he was "working too hard" when he saw him with huge strings during the SRV "heavier strings are better" era, so Gibbons got Dunlop to start pulling 7's and still plays them.
They should bring back that they go into the store looking for the gear
Another awesome video - i loved the Gilmour one.
so sad i couldnt go to a BB show before he died...
i was a medicine student, in brazil when he passed, and had no money to atend to the shows he made here =[
but still listen to him until today!
hope to get more closer to his tone with this video im 2019!
In Canada the Sheraton II Pro and the Lucille are exact same price. Going to give them a try, don't have a hollow body but wouldn't mind one.
You guys are really the only ones who have done a sounds like of BB King. I can’t believe there was never a gear tour of BB’s set up
Great one! I think a Dot Studio and a Twin Reverb might have been a bit better and still been under budget...but I do like this.
A sounds like Philip Sayce would be awesome!! :)
What about 'Sound like Alex Lifeson'?
The woman named Lucille started the brawl is how he puts it in the song Lucille. Literally the first video that comes up if you type bb King
Bloody love these videos! Though I did like it when you guys went shopping for the rig....
Very good video! This is like the later bb king sound, I think it covered up some of the playing as he got older. The stuff from his prime in the 60s and 70s sounded different.
Dammit, that backing track just makes everything sound like Santana. And now you can't unhear it. You're welcome.
PS - Great video, cheers lads.
Bring back the in-shop choosing part!
and, Sound like periphery...
Sound Like Robin Trower - Without Busting the Bank.....Such an under appreciated Tone
Dude your guitar kicks ass ( if the one in the picture is yours lmao )
heythereFuckyou it's my #1 thanks
I dont know if its been done yet, but a "sounds like" stevie ray vaughn would be killer. Thanks for the vids guys, and keep up the good work !!!
The Epiphone is a good choice, since BB's Gibson also is a maple body, which adds to the bright/clear tone :-)
I thought I had watched all of Sound Like, but I missed this one. You should try BB again!
Korn would be a fun one to do for tone (untouchables era) and certain stand out effects. Maybe Jack White to? Thin lizzy? Hell even Prince would be a GREAT one!
Enjoy the vids guys.
You are doing a really nice job with these videos, I enjoyed watching them, thanks a lot!
How about a sound like Stevie Ray Vaughan?
thanks for this guys. this sounds is spot on and stunning
Rewatching this video for probably the 300th time. And for me, even as a BB King purist, I love this video, even with pedals :P
Nice chops Rabea! I can't figure out why you all wouldn't use an Epiphone Lucille though, they're the same price as a Sheraton.
As someone else pointed out B.B.King played Gibson Lab L5 amp, full transistor amps. You can pay a lot less with a good, trasparent and clean transistor amp cheaper than a Fender Pricenton, definetely.
can you guys do a sound like "Black Box Revelation" video? It's a Belgian band, kind of Brit rock meets American Blues
I have a Sheraton (with natural finish) and this is a good approximation of his late-1960s/1970s tone (e.g., "The Thrill Is Gone"). Good Job guys!! It sound really close to B.B. King's sound!
Great playing. You sounded a lot like BB. Thanks guys
Great video guys, have been a fan of the King for years. How about doing one on Chuck Schuldiner of Death?
Beautiful gear especially the guitar.
Eddie Hazel of Funkadelic would be fantastic!
More specifically his tone on the album Maggot Brain. The song 'Maggot Brain' from which the album takes its name and 'Hit It and Quit It'.
Thanks guys for the videos.
Sounded great. Also that rig would be well suited for John Lee Hooker aswell
Rabea, it would be very cool to hear you play that Sheraton how you personally would prefer to play it.
Please do a video on the top 10 electric guitars under 1000 dollars/pounds ! that would be sweeet. chers from sweden !
Such a good player he is!!
Rabea is extremely talented!
As your crapping on about the blues . Could you do Peter Green sounds like .
Probably should be revisited. Two notes: he played a solid state amp for a lot of his career. He had a monster vibrato, which was key to his sound.
From what I know he used a twin and Fender Tube amps, it wasn’t till late in his career he used solid state. I could be wrong, though I also know solid states weren’t popular back in the day.

I love the Sheraton the casino the es 335 nothing compares to these things they are the guitars everyone remembers
I love this series, You nailed it with all the tones, how can i sound like Bullet for my Valentine?
Hey guys great video... could you please make a sound like slash!!! GNR for the win!
I think you did the King proud with your playing Rabea
The Sherry is one guitar that really benefits from mods - a Tonepros bridge really opens it up and gets a big step closer to a 'real' 335.
That's a great looking guitar! I wonder if it's possible to love an epiphone when you own a Gibson? I have a 2015 Les Paul and I'm just wondering if I would like this guitar or would it just feel cheaper to me? I feel like they want way too much money for the Gibson hollow bodies
Loved this, how about a sound like Joe Bonamassa or Joanne Shaw Taylor
