Just got done shovelling my driveway again when the latest round stopped falling!! Glad to see and hear this video as it gives me hope for Spring. Thanks.
Can't wait to break out the vintage Lawn-Boys for another season once the glacier retreats up here in northern Illinois.... Your tips and information have helped me get my lawn looking excellent. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you so much Ryan I’m 13 and I just started watching your videos, and you have inspired me. I just detached, Aerated, and overseeded 90% tall fescue 10% Kentucky bluegrass. Keep up the great work
I had a problem with dog spots in my yard. My dog will go out & sniff out a place where he has relieved himself & he will tend to use the same spots. I broadcast some Gypsum over the yard & the dead spots healed. The areas along my driveway/walkway that were damaged from salt damage also healed & grew in.
Ayyyy welcome back Ryans! I've been working on my own 2021 lawn plan this month. It's never too early! Seeing some 40 degree days in the near future (Northeast). We're rounding the bend on Winter and full sending to Spring!
Thanks to you Ryan Itried some cool weather grass in central coast California (typically Fescue is used) I have blue grass with a little rye on mostly clay. My lawn is killing it. very little water usage and lots of possitive neighbor comments. also using old school reel mower at 1/2 inch. took about a year from a weed patch to amazing. Thanks #lawngoals
AWESOME job Ryan...and Ryan! I feel honored that one of my questions were answered. I appreciate you also bringing a professional guy on to talk turf. Keep up the good work! 🤙🏻
Had excellent results planting new seed on labor day excited to see what it looks like after its first snow which happens to be an irregular 2ft the past few years it hasn't stuck around more than 3 inches
Thanks for the info on spring seeding. I renovated my 2500ft backyard late this past fall wasn't able to get the seed out in time so I've been looking at bare dirt all winter . Birds have taken most of the seed I put down so my only hope for a green lawn is this spring.
Here in Maryland we have some beautiful weather after today. Mid 50's for a while but the beginning of March is a huge wildcard. We could get a foot of snow, or gradually increase in temps until April. Only time will tell!
Great video, Ryan! Really fun times with the both of you guys! Ver knowledgeable and easy to understand. I may be a warm season guy but listening to you cool season guys is really great! Looking forward to all the adventures of Knorr! Haha!
Excellent Info. I aerated, dethatched, and brought in some soil to level out some areas, and over seeded (late) last fall. Now wondering if all the seed survived, or if I need to cast in more (started to sprout before temps dropped last year) once temps come up soon (western WA state). I wait.
Great kick off to the 2021 turf season - thanks. Like many areas, lots of snow cover in eastern Nebraska. Any common impacts/considerations going into Spring with the heavy snow? Possible add to a future turfcast? Be well
I like it fellas! As far as what I’d like to see or hear about in the future is stronger fungicides than your traditional big box store ones. I have TTTF in Nj and had BP bad this year. I am looking into fungicides similar to what Pete from GCI turf uses. That would be a great topic. Good luck with your channel and projects in 2021!
Definitely a worthy subject! The ceiling for granular fungicide performance is typically well below the expectations of "more than your average" lawn enthusiast. That said, spraying fungicides is a commitment in terms of time and money to do it properly and safely. We'll find a way to weave in some more conversations about this in future videos and podcasts. Thanks for watching!
I saw do a give away for that reel mower. I could use one 🤔 you got me into getting a manual one. Also bought some seed from the seed super store. Amazing grass seed by the way.
Good format. If you do Q&A again... Question: I have 3 mature trees that are about 15 years old in my front yard, which they're slightly taller than your front yard tree. Should I factor these trees into my fertilizer rates and strategies through the seasons with TTTF in the transition zone? I'm tempted to remove the middle tree since it's hard to keep the grass thick in the middle of my front yard until I overseed in the fall.
Hey Ryan, I have been following you for over a year now. I have done all your recommendation, even got Rye Grass, got myself a cheap manual reel mower to try it out and now all my neighbors are turning heads! I would really love to get into Reel mowing but did some research here in Canada cant get any Swardman. Let me know if your doing any giveaways...lol. Can`t wait to keep up updating my lawn this year! Your videos avec very helpful keep it up!
woohooo....double digits in the positive for a change, then likely suddenly right up to 100°F before you know it ....I'm not going to make a plan dependent on a long mild spring this year, but one that will still work if it is nice for awhile
I'm going to be overwhelmed this lawn season.. moved into a house with a bad case of ugly patchy clumping fescue. Going to have an irrigation system installed, redoing the lawn with kbg, and lots of landscaping. I'm also thinking about possibly getting into reel mowing if I find a good electric one, but I'm also wanting the Ego 0 turn mower so we will see :) Hopefully by late fall or spring of 2022 I'll be dominating the neighborhood and have a good lawn to enjoy mowing again!
Hey Ryan, thank You for that video, was in the exact moment, on the first day, that in mid Europe the snow melted, and I can see my lawn, and I was wondering when can the season "officialy" start :) with that out of the way, hope my goal, will be possible, c'ouse I plan to be more on the "Lawn side" of my garden, since the last years I was focusing on the other half, that was the "forest side" , but after planting arround 700 trees, I decided I can leave them with a lil less atention, but not the grass, especcialy when a good green carpet in front of the house is also a "must have" subject for me. Always enjoying the adventures You bring, and hope that mine will be also worth telling some day, atleast to my son,. Any way, have a good start in to the Lawn season and take care.
Amazing to see you back. Cant wait for 2021 season. Any tips for borders/sidewalk/stepping stones. I have recetly changed to a reel mower and I cant really figure out how high the soil should sit next to the sidewalk/stepping stones to get it to Roll “smoothly” along it when doing the borders.
Loved this information. As you know from our emails I am one that just purchased a new house and plant to do spring seeding so thanks for the great info!! Also I’m going to be getting into the reel game so if you need a good home for the black mower I’d love to buy it!
Hey Ryan, please let me know if you want to get rid of the Swardman reel mower, I'm very interested in going to a reel mower. I live in the south DM, in the Easter Lake area. Currently have a Honda commercial series (HR 216) and love it. I'"m also OCD with my lawn care just like you! Hope to hear from you and get together this year sometime, take care!
One problem I feel I have and can't get rid of is ruts from lawn mower wheels. I have to cut the same way all the time because of the lawn configuration but then I develop ruts I can't get rid of even if I fill them in.
I have a sodded lawn but the soil is very shallow before you hit a ton of rocks. So any soil sample that I try to take is rather small (barely 2 inches). My soil samples come with very high amounts of Phosphorous (because of the rocks). I also have far too much sand mixed in underneath the sod (soil has less nutrients). I added a one inch layer of quality topsoil to the lawn last season, did a 4 step fertilizer treatment, over-seed, aeration and a de-thatching treatment. At the fall of last year, the lawn looked fantastic. My concern is that of deep root structure (lack there of) because of the rocks. What can I do, to improve that so that the lawn will look good over the summer?
@@ryanknorrlawncare Got ya. Any thoughts on adding compost to topsoil for added nutrients for root improvement or just stick with topsoil? What does the pear moss do when you added it to your lawn?
Clearly I'm not the only one fired up for spring to start working in the #lawngoals. Ryan would like to get into reel mowing. Perhaps a vid or podcast on how to approach it without breaking the bank.
so many huge piles of snow in my yard that have to melt, I'll likely have to be out there breaking them up and still shoveling snow around to get them gone for another month ....hopefully my late fert app at the end of fall will carry my yard for awhile into spring and some early reseeding in a few spots, but since we have had solid snow cover for so long without thaw, air, re-snow I'm kinda wondering about snow mold cause of the added late fert ?
I have centipede grass and I’ve noticed that during the summer I have a large presence of frogs all around the lawn when the suns starts to go down. Is this something I should be worried about?
I'm new to everything. I planted new ryegrass this past fall and it turned out great. I didn't do a great job leveling the yard first though. Now I want to make it perfect, but don't want to kill off the existing grass. I bought a couple leveling tools now, but I don't want to put an inch (in some places) of dirt on top of grass. Any tips on how to do this gradually?
Thanks for the podcast! I have a question for the next podcast. I bought but forgot to apply my high N fertilizer which was to be my winterizer. Can I still apply it as soon as the snow melts without harming my grass? My lawn is a PRG/KGB mix in Northern Illinois.
The snow just melted. And now I have a crust on parts of the yard. Will it just grow out? I overseeded barenbrug regenerative seed in the fall and it looked great in the fall.
Really good stuff guys, I enjoy this format, well done!
For sure, really good!
40s comin to chicago area next week...LETS GOOO SPRING!!!
Always good to see the Ryan’s talking turf. Can’t wait to get started on the lawn this year
You guys are a great duo, with your combined lawn care knowledge.
Welcome back. We've been waiting to hear from you. Excellent first video of 2021!
Just got done shovelling my driveway again when the latest round stopped falling!! Glad to see and hear this video as it gives me hope for Spring. Thanks.
Excellent tip on spring over seeding. As soon as the snow is gone, I’ll get out there.
Can't wait to break out the vintage Lawn-Boys for another season once the glacier retreats up here in northern Illinois.... Your tips and information have helped me get my lawn looking excellent. Thanks for all you do.
My grass here in New Jersey is starting to reappear from under the snow. Excited for 2021!!
My Igloo is melting slowly and I'm starting to think about my lawn for 2021.
Finally!! Spring is around the corner! So glad to see a new video.
Heck yes... I was just thinking... RUclips hasn’t recommended Ryan Knorr in a while I wonder what he’s up to. And wham! new video waiting for me.
just got done with winter storm hell in south texas lol!! 6 inches of snow and single digit weather for a few days. Bring on spring!!!!
Good to have you back Ryan! It's been a long winter!

So happy to see you back while we’re planning #lawngoals during the winter snows and dreaming of spring.
Can’t wait for the snow to melt! Looking forward to the 2021 season. Great video!
Bought our first home last summer. Been watching lots of vids. Have a real bumpy, patchy and weak looking lawn to deal with. Looking forward to it!
Excellent first vid of the year. As a ryegrass enthusiast it would be great to get your thoughts on the new "creeping" ryegrass cultivars.
This is going to be a big year for Ryan. I'm excited for him! God bless you.
Hi Ryans! Great to hear from you guys.
I am so excited to kick this year off... My lawn was looking good last season as a result of the pandemic. OH.....IO for RD!
Thanks for reminding me it's almost time to get back to it! Can't wait for this snow to melt. Great format!

See if Allyn wants to try a reel for his zoysia?
Also, nice hat! O-H!

I’m so ready for spring and to be able to use my lawn care guide!
If you decide to sell the real mower I want it! Love to get a mower from a legend in lawn care
