The Lawn Care Nut hey Allyn I was wondering can I spray a full dose of prodiamine and then 30-45 days later spray a full dose of dirhiopyr? Or is that too much? Thanks
I really dig the line about how "Pre-Emergent is only one part of an overall lawn care strategy." Once again proving how strong a teacher you are. Take it from a teacher with years of experience.
I never knew I could learn so much about grass, but after buying my first home two years ago your videos have been my Go-To RUclips search. My lawn and I thank you. Keep up the great videos. My Lawn is all clay (Clay Co. Missouri...go figure) and your videos has turned my lawn from a mess to the envy of my neighbors. Throw er' down!
I use Dimension as a pre-emergent in mid-April for crabgrass control for Tall Fescue and Spurge Power for post-emergent broad leaf weed control with pretty decent luck in Zone 7 (No. Virginia). I also use Tenacity once a month during the growing season as a pre-emergent to control wild Bermuda Grass. Another thing I notice is that Crabgrass doesn't grow in the shade, only in full sun. So, I don't apply the pre-emergent everywhere.
Thank you Allyn for continuing to update and re-examine these topics each season. As you say repetition is the key to learning it’s nice to revisit subject time after time each time you hone and dial in your information and presentation.
Exactly the information I’ve been looking for. As a complete beginner, I really appreciate you at least letting us know which big box products we can try, to at least get us going. From there, we can try to learn more and maybe try something different next time around if we don’t get the results we want.
I had to Pause and Bookmark, after subscribing. FINALLY~ I've found some real intelligence on pre-emerge. I've struggled for five months to get back a Zoysia lawn that wouldn't have had a problem if I had put down the RIGHT product at the RIGHT time. I'm trying to eliminate Coastal Bermuda (wild) from an Emerald Zoysia lawn with Ornamec, then Fusilade. Fusilade seems to be more effective, but both will severely damage the Zoysia. Now I'm trying to save the patient from the hazards of the chemo-therapy. Thank you LCN.
Valentines Day is the sweet spot for us here in Dallas TX and I love Dimension year round. We always get some 50+ days of soil temps as early as the first week in Feb. I follow up in April for another round and it gets me through until Fall. I eradicated my entire lawn of crabgrass in just a year and now I don't miss a date.
Thank you for the info Allyn, I have been subscribed to you channel for two years now since I purchased my home in Oswego Il. Always great info and fun to watch. Your channel has helped me achieve a great lawn.
I’ve learned so much from your channel and videos for my NC fescue. I ordered several products from you and I can’t wait to apply them this weekend. I’ll be buying the cool season guide for keeping my lawn domination this summer! Thanks LCN!
I’ve got my Tenacity all mixed up and ready to spray over here in Pennsylvania! Just waiting for the 52 degree soil temps. Good luck out there everyone!
So funny to see you pick Trenton NJ, I am literally 10 minutes away and last years magical date for me was April 4th. Yesterday the 24 hour average hit 48.8 so a couple more warm days and it will be go time, a month early....... it is going to be a crazy season..
PA LAWN GUY> Allen make it easy for people. When the Forsythia starts to bloom put down the preemergent. everyone needs a forsythia in the cool side of the property and one in the warmer side. this works great.
Awesome that True Green advertisements pop up. I'm sure they do a great job, but this is I'm sure primarily a DIY viewership. Keep up the good work and great advice! Prodiamine is on its way from your shop. Thanks LCN
I live in Queensland Australia. My winter has gone already. For the last week her, we were 11c to 26c and it's been 20c or more all day long. It's 6:12am and I'm sitting here watching in shorts and a singlet. As a new lawn care nut. From all the different grass and weeds in my backyard it's so overwhelming. I'm starting to think, maybe I should just kill it all. Or take it back to dirt. Stupid me thought this new hobby would be kind of easy to figure out stuff in store. How wrong was I.
As always, thanks for what you do! I am in my second season with a new lawn in Upstate SC. My fall application of fescue is looking good and I have the only green lawn in the neighborhood (dominating). 🤘
Thanks for the info! I've been a subscriber for about a year now and I have your book. Looking forward to the updated version. But you know we all appreciate the level of detail! :-)
I have St Augustine grass but due to sewage system problems the city had to dig up a section of my yard to replace pipes. When I came home after work they sodded my yard with Bermuda grass now I have both grasses in my yard is there anyway my st Augustine can over take the other grass
Can you do a video or blog on factors to consider when deciding between over seeding and laying down pre-emergent? I live in New York and I decided to put down pre-emergent this spring but as I need a plan for the fall. I have some thin spots but I also have quite a bit of poa annua.
I threw down ferti-Lome weed and feed 16-0-8. I seen on the bag it has a lot good ingredients in it. It also kills crabgrass and other weed I hope it works. When should I threw her down again? Soil temp. Here in texas is 56°.
The biggest question I have is preemergent and seeding. I like to seed 2x a year. Early spring and fall. How long after or before I seed in the spring should I use the preemergent? And vice versa for the fall. I like to put a preemergent down late fall to help with any winter growth of crabgrass.
Is it best to clear out dead crabgrass, and plant new seed in areas first, or clear out the dead crabgrass and apply the pre emergent first, then a week later apply new seed to those areas?
I have a mixture of bermuda, tall fescue and all kinds of crabgrass and weeds. I want to fully restore and just kill the grass but the bermuda is still dormant. Right now its about 50°F in Charlotte NC.. could i get away with killing the grass all together and starting fresh right before spring? My grass looks like twoface right now. Its horrid! Please help.
I’m in North Carolina. I’m already getting clover coming up after doing a fall renovation. Am I too late to get pre emergent out? I have been hesitant with new grass coming n
Im stuck between a rock and a hard place. Not sure if i should throw pre emergent down and try to seed in the fall...or throw a lot of seeds down and hope it crowds the weeds? Or. Should i kill all and start over completely?
I put my preemergent down in in early march. Lesco 007 preemergent. I still see the preemergent in my grass and I see weeds still. What did I do wrong? Please assist. I am seeing actual crabgrass
Hey Allyn l had a irrigation system put in late October in Michigan l plan on overseeding in the spring l read on the label of my quinclorac bottle l can put down before I seed (hopefully to act as a pre-emergent) but not again till 28 days later just wanted your input
I have a new sod and worried that 6-4-0 Milorganite won't be enough. I've put some apllication down 3 weeks ago, lawn still hasn't greened up. Any suggestions?
LCN check this out, i live in the middle of NC, i built my house on a piece of land that was already cleared & wasnt taken care of. i have very little grass, dont know what kind but i have 100 different weeds,, ive only been able to identify a couple. some clovers & dandelions. the other 98 i dont have a clue. i put down some granular weed killer last spring but it did nothing. it suppose to kill 300 different weeds. i wish i had crabgrass at least its grass. lol what can i do to get rid of all theses types of weeds? thank you
Needing some advice or confirmation. Foothills/piedmont of NC. I overseeded my entire property (.33 acre) with annual rye. Beautiful and I’ve been mowing once a week minimum. When spring/summer hit my front yard and backyard are two different climates basically. Front yard no shade and extreme heat (Bermuda) backyard is hodge podge mostly fescue with some shade and not nearly as hot and dry. My plan is to pick a date and remove the rye from the front to expose the Bermuda and push it hard and let it take over. The backyard I’m not sure about. My plan for it is to lower it gradually hopefully stressing out the rye then (timing) overseed and push tall fescue. Advice?
So I seeded my lawn last sept with KBG and perennial Rye. It’s come in nicely but still a few areas kind of thin. Will the pre emerg be a problem on the new kbg rhizomes? I do see crabgrass every summer in my lawn so I would prefer to use it if possible.
Thanks for all of the great info. Since your channel is so popular I did not have the time to read all of the comments so maybe someone mentioned this but Scotts does have a product called WeedEx that is 1.71% Pendimethalin that does not include fert. I am in the Princeton NJ area and I get it at Ace. The Big Box stores do not carry it. I put it down today since we have rain in the forecast tonight. Thanks again for the excellent channel.
I was always taught when the forsythia blooms get down your fert with crabgrass control. I did mine last week in southeast PA. Will it still work since soil temps per greencast say the average temp is like 45?

Very very new, 1st time doing a lawn... don’t know what kind of grass I have. Looks like more weeds of some sort, and less grass. Should I still do Post-Emergent?
I have st Augustine grass and it is only 1000 square feet, can I skip the pre emergent? I have no weeds and every week I go thru and pick out any the spring up.

Oh man!!!! This is getting me pumped!!! Even though the thermometer currently says -6 degrees... More like -18 with the windchill.

Definitely a thumbs up for the Jocko reference! Get after it!
The camera quality is on par with the amazing content. Both outstanding!
Thanks brother !! ☀️
Perfect week for this the Atlanta area soil temperatures got up to 55 degrees this week.
Lots of rain though - I was watching BYDs video today and it was raining on him.
I’ve got my Tenacity all mixed up and ready to spray over here in Pennsylvania! Just waiting for the 52 degree soil temps. Good luck out there everyone!
Loved the Jocko shout out GOOD!
Lawn covered with Crabgrass? GOOD, now you can fix it.
Aerated for the first time in over 18 years last fall, then heavy sun and shade seeding. Excited about what I'm going to see this year.
I hope you enjoyed the butt kicking!! 😂💪
Too soon for Prodiamine in MA. 55 degrees probably around early April. Can’t wait!
it will be here before you know it, and then you can throw it, and soon after mow it!
The Lawn Care Nut do you sell a liquid fertilizer concentrate for cool season grass?
Hi my grass taip sentafhe which fertilizer god bless you and your family thanks

I've been using crabgrass to cover bald spots on my head. Works like a champ!
Great video as always brother! Thanks for everything you do! Also the music is great, could just play in my home office all day.

I want this guy taking care of my lawn
Thanks for posting! Great information! 👍
So informative and detail, thank you. Will try your recommendation.
My grass is still dormant and I have a 43 avg degrees soil temperature. Can I still apply pre-emergent or I should wait?

"Just make sure you clean the shaft after taking out of the ground before you stick it in the meat"-LCN haha
That's what HE said.....
@@YardGuy hahahaha
When should I applied grass seed after applying the pre-emergent ?
Question - is it safe to apply both prodiamine and atrazine back to back on st. augustine?
yes you can do that no worries there.
Is this a Valentine’s Day special from the LCN? 4 videos in one week!
Hippest guy on youtube, seriuosly. This guy is awesome
👊 thanks bro
Now that I am taking over the yard duties, should I lay down some pre emergent? My old gardener fertilized my fescue (marathon) grass 3 months ago.
You provide some detailed guidance bro. Good stuff! Cleetus fan and now yours :)
Thank you Allyn. I cant seem to find the pdf for lawn care for spring - summer in the description, can you please link it to us. - Thanks

I would call them and have them come take the bermuda away and replace with the correct type of sod. The two will never play nice together.
Im in VA and i have decent grass but a good bit of spots of crabgrass already, how can i rid them now completely

Thanks for the content. I put down my Scotts with haltz and in 45 days I will put it down again. When can grass seeds go down to thicken the lawn?

what about if you live at a higher elevation in the warm season grasses area, we have warm days but still have moderate frosts in the mornings
Should I dethatch before pre emergent app? Or after a week or two?
great information. I'm suffering against button weed here in VA.

can tenacity be used in jan feb in central North Carolina to kill weeds in yard before soil temp is 50 or is it a waste to do it that early?
Allyn, @1:19 of this video what bar is that down low on that Lawn Boy /Toro ????
Was another of your vids.....Striper bar
Can I apply these to a yard that also has a vegetable garden???
What’s up Allyn been waiting on that content man 💪👍🔥🔥🔥🔥

I use it to stop goose grass as well. I have had a big problem with goose grass in my lawn.
yes excellent, I had forgotten that one. 💪
YAASSS he said wipe off the shaft before sticking it in the meat that shits hilarious good entertainment and informative.
By the way I dig the lighting in this video....!!!! I like how the LCN logo on the wall is lit up by the PC Screen gives a cool vibe.

So how's the South Carolina project lawn doing?
Thanks for using Trenton, NJ and doing my homework for me!!!! 👍
sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug ha ha!
What is the best hose end lawn sprayer, I bought the 4 bottles off LCN site and want to get ready to spray
50 lb Lebanon .38 prodiamine 0-0-7 is 14$ at advanced turf solutions. Probably find similar prices at any local supply like site one. 14$!
How do I know what my setting g should be on MY Scott's edgeguard. Nothing on the prodiame bag I got from you
Greetings from Trenton, NJ, Allyn! I don't even have to look up the dataz myself :) Thanks.
I can’t get the green cast tool to go past February...
Poop. Never mind. I got it! Have to click on the year...
How many times can I put prodiamine down in one year for the transition zone? Also, how far apart on applications?
here is a full guide on everything you need to know thelawncarenut.com/pages/lcn-newsletter enjoy!
I was always taught when the forsythia blooms get down your fert with crabgrass control. I did mine last week in southeast PA. Will it still work since soil temps per greencast say the average temp is like 45?
Yep all good. The nature method works just fine too.
The Lawn Care Nut thanks. Not sure if you are familiar with agway products but i put down agway stage 1 with crabgrass preventative. I think it has dithiopyr in it. Should i do another pre emerg app in a couple weeks to really prevent the crabgrass from bursting in june?
Allyn is I use Scott can I also throw down Milorganite fertilizer after? Also should I mow before putting down Scott
In VA, why is it that the crabgrass becomes so dominant toward the end of Summer?
Because it starts growing in spring and is more mature by the end of summer. That's why you prevent in very early spring.
What about Lime, when should we be throwing down Lime?
Spring is a good time for that if your sail test indicates you need it.
Should pre-emergent be applied before or after Spring areation and topdressing?
Very very new, 1st time doing a lawn... don’t know what kind of grass I have. Looks like more weeds of some sort, and less grass. Should I still do Post-Emergent?
Ready for the Bahia video!!
Any recommendations on how to get rid of moss in my cool season grass in Massachusetts and keep it away?
I have st Augustine grass and it is only 1000 square feet, can I skip the pre emergent? I have no weeds and every week I go thru and pick out any the spring up.
sure can - if you want to manage your patch by hand I think that is a great strategy for sure. Will connect you with your land better too.
