- In this video we spray Sherwin Williams Emerald with a 3, 4, and 6 Stage HVLP Turbine. The paint and tip size stays the same for each turbine. We show the difference in performance so you can choose the right HVLP turbine size for your project needs.

thank you for the video! ive been going back and forth on hvlp systems to spray aristoshield, and this video helped me decide on the Q5.
Hi Jared we stock that unit if you want to save 5 percent you can use disc5 on our site for a coupon
Clear explanation.
Thanks man.
You can use a handheld turbine for many oil based finishes and some water based finishes with little to no thinning for a handheld turbine while some finishes may need to be heavily thinned. Handheld turbine sprayers are less powerful than a 3 stage turbine but the portability can be advantageous at times, and they are cheap compared to multi stage turbines.
Good stuff!
More often then not even with a 6 stage and water born material you should thin just a little anyway and that's when you get the glass as long as you spray consistently no heavies or dry patching
30 minutes of googling led me to the answer you gave in the first 30 seconds.
Glad you found an answer!
Great video. I wonder if we can use something like Dewalt 5 horsepower portable vacuum (with a blower function) with a HVLP gun. I think something like it can be quieter, cheaper and stronger (more air volume) than a stage 5 machine as long as we can connect it to a flex hose. Dewalt even has a remote.
People have modified vacuum motors for turbines
Can a 3 stage be used to recoat bath tubs ?
Why not show how adjusting the gun would affect paint?
So a 7-stage for thinned automotive urethane would be overkill or a good time?
More than you need but would atomize really well I don't think a 7 stage exists the highest is Titan with a 6 stage
Quick question for you.
I have two 3 stage turbines, why can't I just run a "Y" connector off of them and have a 6 stage at the gun?
Am I an idiot or could this work?
That's an interesting idea... but you won't increase the pressure, only the air volume. And to make High Volume Low Pressure system work effectively you require both. Sorry, but that's how it works! My recommendation would be to sell your two 3-stage turbines and get yourself a 5-stage unit. And look at other manufacturer's systems, as the spray gun being used in this video leaves much to be desired.
So is an air compressor better then?
Kathleen, there are compressed air based HVLP spray guns on the market, but they atomize finishes only slightly better than the highest-stage turbine HVLP systems. HVLP technology can only do just so much so if you are planning to spray mostly very heavy bodied, thick finishes (the proper term in the industry for these finishes is "high viscosity") which you will be spraying in a commercial setting, day in and day out. If that's what you're planning to do, then you need to move up to the next level of technology. It is called air-assisted airless. This technology relies on a fairly large compressor to drive a pump that will compress the finish being sprayed. The finish is moved through 1/4" inside diameter, high pressure fluid lines to a spray gun specially designed to work with the pump. The finish comes out in a very soft spray, producing an exceptionally well atomized finish. That's what most professional cabinet and furniture shops are using these days.
when will they be inventing a cordless hvlp machine like graco have done with gxff ect
A turbo compressor wheel style turbine and a magnetic bearing BLDC motor that spins up to 75,000 rpms can make it as powerful as a 4 stage turbine.
