I love the comment about being blown away and bewildered by their compositions. Radiohead has many great qualities, but i think their creative compositions are really what makes them so good and legendary. Every band member listens to many different styles and genres, and brings the influences into the studio, with the intention of making accessible “pop” music. It shouldn’t work, but somehow it does.

Saw Thom and Jonny perform live this week in LA. It was the last stop on their North American tour of their side project band The Smile and first time I have seen either perform live. It was otherworldly. I can’t describe it. They are so much better live I swear. And it so cool to experience their music in the present tense. The Smile is happening now - their album dropped 2022, they wrote a ton of new material while touring this year that they going to drop another album in 2023 and do another tour. And a lot of their new songs they perform are even better than the songs on their new album, and those are freaking awesome. And they just dropped a live album this month recorded at the Montreux Jazz festival.

One of the best things about Radiohead is how great they are live they pull off every one of these songs and most of them sound better with no taped music of any kind. The two basement sessions are an all-time great music experience I hope you react to BOTH of them not just In Rainbows check out Bloom for a more proggy Radiohead and the addition of the second drummer is used in ways I have never heard anywhere else.

In Rainbows has got to be the most beautiful Radiohead record by a mile. It's interesting because it came after Hail To The Thief, which is their angriest album. Then it was followed by King Of Limbs, their most boring but meditative album. And finally A Moon Shaped Pool, Radiohead's saddest album.

After seeing your reactions to these incredibly forward-thinking albums by one of my favorite bands, I have what might come off as a strange recommendation given the usual content of your channel, but I think you would potentially really enjoy Bon Iver's 2016 record 22, A Million. I'm also a fan of prog and pretty much any other genre that can surprise me in some way, and frankly I've never been as surprised (and moved) by the places Justin Vernon goes with that record. To touch on "how do they write these songs", I saw Tom say in an interview a long time ago say that they came up with the name Radiohead because the song ideas "get beamed into his head like from a satellite or something". Always thought that was cool.
