Awesome video. Best part is you made it a super comp rig with basic mods. You didnt spend $2k and change everything on the car like some of these people do. Your upgrades are realistic and easy for all skill levels. For $500 to get a real competitive rig is awesome. Nice work and thanks for making a "real" video.
Man I love this truck. I love how excited you are! The fact you turned this 300 truck into a competitor without breaking your bank is amazing! I just think it’s so much fun! I’m hoping to save up and get one maybe secondhand if I’m lucky lol single dad life. That underdrive is sweet
I’ve been just obsessed with watching every video on the Ascent just received message today mine is on the way I got the Red one & today I received my 1800kv Fusion SE & I have metal beadlocks & J Concepts Rupture tires waiting those will be my first mods along with all the ones people have show that have no cost just adjustments. Friday is my Birthday so this was a gift to myself😂 And I’ll have it modded & on the rocks this Friday. Thank you for all effort you put in your video’s it shows.
Have you ever done a video specifically on the mini tspring mod to the ascent and recommended settings? Your videos have been extremely thorough and well explained. Additionally your tips have been great help with my projects; thank you!
Another awesome video! Glad to see you got the UD gears in for this one It looks like it’s time to remove the internal rear springs, and maybe lengthen the wheelbase a bit.. Traxxas long rod ends on just the rear links would be cheap and easy enough for viewers friendly, probably enough driveshaft slip
Great video. What is the red differ cover you used on the front axle? Would be great if you could add to the links section of your post. Looking forward to your upcoming video on the settings you use on your Hobbywing 1080 Brushed ESC.
I will be definitely be getting one of these and moding it up like you have. Based on your reviews I also have a TRX-4 and a Capra. Also follow you on E-MTB review. I am going on a trail ride in Malibu this morning on my Turbo Levo Comp.
Mine is on enroute to the uk cant wait to get it definitely gonna get some sort of fusion in it and then let the mods flow from there. Great vid as usual 👍👍
I have fusion pro, beadlocks, predator hyrax, direct power servo, treal outer and inner brass. Some mini t springs and some others coming for the ascent lol
Just got mine and about to upgrade soon, but I’ll use it stock a little first. I think I’m going to make a custom flatbed for it with a roll bar and lights.
I have seen a battery relocation tray mount on ebay... looks like you could run a full size 2s pack with it... I really like my big batteries for the run time :) Have you seen those mounts for the ascent?
with the danchee having been my first rc, its really cool to see how well they did this one. I really like the close up of one of the tires conforming over a rock. Have you experimented with a lower profile tire, that didn't need inserts to help with sidewalling, because there is only so much a tire will conform; a bigger profile tire won't fully conform and there is only a max amount. I've been watching this for some time now ever since I saw someone put a buggy tire on a crawler and it just climbed and sidewalled just as good, if not better than most crawler tires, still conformed about the same amount looking up close.
Need your recommendation Francis. I was going to add a Zoku Chassis to my Straight Axle VS4-10 Phoenix but have now seen the Ascent. Which route would you go ? I'm in the UK so the Ascent will cost me $370 with shipping and the Zoku $238 shipped. Thankyou in advance for your help.
Excellent man, the Ascent is available right now in one of the rc stores here in Canada. However I can't buy one I gotta let go with one of my trucks in my RC fleet, my house is small I can only keep 5 trucks...which one should I let go if I'm goinf tp get an Ascent to replace it? Here are my fleet: TA Rival MT10, Arrma Big Rock V3, Traxxas TRX4 Defender, Redcat Gen 8 AXE, Traxxas TRX4 Sport kit with Traxx.
Thanks for the suggestion, I love my Gen 8 Axe featured it in a lot of my videos in my channel here over the summer...it's a great trail truck great electronics and motor but I don't like the steering angle/turning radius. I might let it go or the Arrma Big Rock V3.
I think Arma is another level of the hobby, within the crawler line I would be more inclined towards gen 8, to have the latest update of the redcat@@flat-out
@@ShadeTree_RCThanks for the suggestion but I don't bash hard or trash my trucks in my fleet I look after them. Watch my videos in my channel here I don't drive like that Kevin Talbot bloke. I'm leaning towards giving up the Gen 8 Axe to replace it with this Ascent and get upgrades like Francis here.
If I do get one, I'm going to install the fusion with hyrax beadlocks. that should take this truck anywhere on any course with no issues. The FOC rules in the crawling world.
Just about to blow another £500+ on another crawler.. can't make my mind up between TRX4 f_150 hightrail .or scx10iii gladiator or the pro line special 40 th edition scx10iii? Any advice
Those plastic transmission gears seem yo stand up yo you punching the throttle. When you moded the shocks did you consider removing the internal spring/switching it to a soft, short desert lizard spring? The stock suspension seems very stiff.
Plastic transmission gears seem to work well for these applications. Changing the springs and oil... I don't know. These work SO well and are perhaps the secret to its success.
www.asiatees.com/display?Miscellaneous-All-Parts-Hop-Ups-Upgrades&brand=Miscellaneous&model=All&id=204436&pid=1&rc_pal=3931303130 Get a pair of brass inner lockrings too.
If this truck would have come with a set of metal beadlocks or brass rings in plastic wheels along with a better esc it really would have been a performer out of the box.
I would say this if you're on a budget. It'll get you running and having real fun and learning at $289. It'll be a great comp crawler at $500. The Carbon VFD, hopefully I'll get to test. But that's a $700-$1000 rig, I suspect. Looks like a great choice too for a dialed high end rc
@@RCReviewChannel thanks for your answer i am not so much on a budget i just was not sure how the redcat would be not having the angled skid i was already looking at the cost of the vrd carbon so i would be ok puting more part money in the redcat if it was worth it
So overdrive and underdrive are not the same. If you desire a very slow crawl rate. You should do underdrive to the rear. Leaving the front the same. Helps keep a low gear ratio. Overdriving the front just raises your overall gear ratio. Which is what I don't want. We change motors to get slow crawl. So why would you want to put a higher gear ratio in the rig?
And yet Crawler Canyon just talks shit and hates on Redcat® like most RC snobs.. I love out crawling kids like him with their $1K rigs laughing the entire time😂

Very true!
@@RCReviewChannelI am curious if adding a radio with throttle speed, and expo with a 9t pinion will make the stock esc/motor combo usable.

You did it again Fransis!!! I told myself, if it is in stock right now, I'll buy it,,, Sold
Ooops, I did it again!
Great job francis, you really made that thing perform like a much more expensive rig
It has surprised me for sure. Sometimes, less is more.

Great update & body mod to keep the rear of the cab attached. Makes it perfect to access the battery & do maintenance 👍

excellent modification, I always had faith in the brand
Thats some oldschool RC Review Video - very nice. Excellent Crawler Test
Glad you enjoyed it
A true class act 💯 great improvement overall. Can’t wait to see what’s next for this build. That was nice.

Will the hobbywing fusion pro work on it? I’m buying this for my 9 year old and I love this motor in my Capra 4ws. Awesome mods man.
Fusion Pro will work for sure. Fusion SE should be plenty good too for half the price.
Why not spend a little extra and get the brushless Fusion system?
love the video! what city is linda vista park in?
It is in Cupertino, CA and it is adjacent to San Jose, not too far from SF
Which "specific" Losi springs did you use
Great job on the video ! Where can I get some bead lock wheels like you up graded too?
I'm sure Francis will chime in but look like Boom Racing Pro Build wheels.
