Has Breitling Ruined The Navitimer? | Watchfinder & Co.

- As a watchmaker, Breitling has changed its direction a few times over the years, trying-and in some cases failing-to keep up with the demands of consumers in an ever-changing environment. One thing has remained true through all of it, however, and that’s the Navitimer, the meat and two veg of the Breitling diet. It’s good, it’s wholesome-and now it’s been changed to something completely different. Has Breitling finally lost it?

‘There is simplification & there is obliteration’. Brilliant statement.
In my opinion, yes. The Navitimer is one of the most unique looking watches. Simplifying its utility and aesthetic raises the argument, why not simply purchase a Daytona or Speedmaster if you want a similarly priced and simpler chronograph? I really hope the old Navitimer stays, until I can buy one at least.
The new one is fairly handsome, but very like many other chronos. That over-the-top uniqueness is gone. Not for me.
Shouldn't be called a Navitimer.
The Navitimer is the one, must-have Breitling piece for me. Such a stylish and utilitarian piece.
Unpopular opinion..... The Navitimer is a relic of a time passed. I actually fly airplanes for a living and I need a watch that is clear and easy to read. The dial on the navitimer is just to busy to be useful. The “flight computer” bezel is useless in actual operation. If you want a Chrono the Speedmaster is much more readable and useful option. The simpler Breitling Premier Chronos appeal more to me.
It's as if Porsche redesigned the 911 and presented a Ford Focus to the world. Bonkers!
The first Breitling I ever saw was worn by a WWII fighter pilot. His name was "Jessie" and he used to hang out at Caldwell Wright Airport in Fairfield, New Jersey back in the late 60s and 1970s. If memory serves correct his name was Jessie McKeon, or something similar. Jessie wore a real WWII Navitimer.
As an owner of the original Navitimer, I look at the new model and shudder... This is NOT what I would want in a Navitimer...
Yes the Navitimer without the calculation bezel just isn't a Navitimer. What a shame. Breitling should stick with their classics.
I actually really like the new watch. It‘s very aesthetic in my eyes. It just shouldn‘t be called nor replace the Navitimer. It‘s something wholly different and in this case I can really appreciate it!
As a massive Breitling fan, I can't help but to turn my nose up at Georges Kern's changes. Yes, Breitling needs to change, that much is known to anyone who pays attention to the market, but I don't think that's the way to go. He's approaching Breitling the way he approached IWC and I don't think that's smart.
I love my Navitimer and I'm so happy to learn that they renamed the new collection as the Aviator Series. They definitely got it wrong but by renaming it they're acknowledging that they are willing to listen to their customers and change accordingly. The new tribute AOPA Navitimer is gorgeous and one of the nicest releases this past decade IMHO. Cheers
I don't like breitling and never was a fan off but how can you take a unique design and make it look like every other chrono on the market? Just mind baffling.
I bought the 18k version . You can judge as you wish , but I love it ! It’s beautifully made . I love the simplicity of it’s design .
Looks too much like a fossil watch to me, an insult to the old beautiful navitimer 806
I've been watching these videos for a number of months. Dreaming mostly. But yesterday, I purchased my very first luxury swiss watch and it was a new Navitimer GMT. Thank you for making these videos and keeping our passion alive.
I’m only 16 and have already been looking forward to buying a Navitimer when I grow up. I’m sincerely hoping my options aren’t limited to this thing.
That is just not a Navitimer, if they would have just call it a different name we would not even think about it.
