  • The tongue storage box is a must-have upgrade on A-frame travel trailers like the NoBo 10.6 or NoBo 10.5 to add exterior storage on your rig. Check out the first of many videos in the channel’s new series, “Upgrades & Mods.” The tongue storage box mod works best on any A-frame (bumper pull) travel trailer RV with a single 20-lb propane tank installed on the front (or no tank at all). In this video I’ll cover:
    00:00 Intro
01:58 Why you need it on your rig
    04:44 How to install it
    10:34 Where to get it
And at the end I’ll tell you if I have any regrets or if I’d buy and install the tongue storage box all over again. What do you think? Will you be adding a tongue storage box to your NoBo 10.6 or A-frame travel trailer?

Just watched you walk thru with the NoBo 10.6. Thank you! We purchased one in May of 2020 and with the lockdown, were never given any help with set, controls, and features. We figured out most, asked other campers and made a couple of our own mods. I definitely will look at your sink faucet mod! My quick share with you is I switched out the self tapping screws that hold the stove/box to the slide out drawer, with short carriage bolts and nylon lock nuts. Second time that I reached underneath to secure the support leg, I impaled my forearm! 3 inch gash spoils a camp trip. Keep the videos coming!

Thank you for the kind words! That is a great idea on those screws down there. Sorry you got cut like that. Ouch for sure.

Hey, I love your excellent videos and Mod ideas. They say emulation is the most sincere form of flattery. I just completed this Mod. Thank you.

Thank you for this series you are starting! Some of your mods are items I want to do. Your original walk through video helped me decide on purchasing one. My wife, twin 5yo boys and myself were able to sleep inside which was a nice surprise, it is a solid little trailer. I am looking forward to making it our own with tasteful mods so I will eagerly await new videos! Next on my list will be to wire in an inverter. Ours was pretty loaded (Tent, awning, TV, dinette tables, etc but no Inverter). Seems like I need to pull the stapled on panel out to access cables. Coming from the auto industry it is funny how they do things in the RV world.

Thank you for the feedback! Glad to hear. Exciting new videos in progress! Definitely will dedicate one to the inverter upgrade and lithium-ION converter/charger upgrades. Stay tuned :)

This is so helpful. I just bought my NO BO 10.6 and was concerned about the battery and propane getting stolen. The factory propane covers lid blew off on my first trip. This looks much more secure. Had you ever though about putting the battery in the box with the tank? Also considerations with an electric hitch for clearance. Thanks again for taking the time to make these videos!

Sure, glad to help! Surprisingly the propane tank takes up a good bit of space, so not quite enough room to add the battery in there as well. I've seen some manufactures design a wider tongue box and they combine propane and battery in the same chamber, provided there is a lot of ventilation and room for gas to escape. For propane, RV code requires a well ventilated space so thus the gap in the bottom of the storage bin for the gas to fall out. Plenty of room for a power tongue jack in most cases. Most models have forward motors, so more real estate taken toward the tow vehicle, but I've seen a few jacks that protrude a few inches on the storage side. Usually they're also a bit taller too. Sometimes manufacturers like Forest River change vendors or suppliers on parts like their frame, so I've had some folks comment that they cannot fit the battery and tongue box on their rig like mine, due to a slightly different A frame vendor that must be shorter on some dimensions. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info. Still researching the camper I want so watching these mods helps tremendously. The NoBo 10.5 is a solid contender at this point.
Wondering if you have any pros or cons on the 10.5 vs 10.6.
Subscribed and looking forward to more content. Thanks again!

Sure, glad to help. I think the NOBO 10.5 and 10.6 are a great value compared to some of the other alternatives. For me the biggest advantage of the 10.6 is the view with the screen panel...the views and openness. I like the versatility in that the 10.6 can be used to haul items if needed. Otherwise, on the 10.5 an advantage is you have a little more storage on that back wall. So if you don't think you'd make use of the views with the ramp door and screen, and you have no need to load larger items, then the 10.5 probably is the better choice with the bonus of added storage on that back wall. Hope this helps :)

Okay, great! Thanks for the response. Added versatility vs. added storage space - the quintessential dilemma nearly everyone must wrangle with when heading outdoors. 😅
Regarding the screen feature of the 10.6, how is it on keeping mosquitoes out? Or smaller pests for that matter.

@@slyflea It's basically a nylon screen with a zipper down the middle and about 10 magnets around perimeter. Then the inside of opening on rig has magnets around frame that connect to the screen's. So, there is a 1/4" gap between screen and opening where something could crawl in technically, and then the bottom against the sill of the opening has probably about 1/4"-1/2" gap. So I guess kinda think about it like having a window cracked on your car or house such that something could fly or crawl in, but only around the perimeter. I haven't noticed issues with bugs getting in during day, but I'd say at night the little nats will get drawn to the lights inside and find a way in. I don't think it's a must have, but definitely nice feature. I have seen a significanlty higher ratio of 10.6 units for sale on dealer lots compared to 10.5 units, so I'm guessing demand is higher on 10.6 units compared to 10.5 units. Really can't go wrong with either model though. Just personal preference.

Okay, very cool! I’ve noticed that many online dealer websites offer more 10.6 models, too. I’m guessing I’d have to mod it somehow if I choose the 10.6, as most of our outings will be in FL where mosquitoes plague us 13 months out of 12! 🚫🦟🤬

@@slyflea Sounds like fun. The AC on the unit will keep you plenty cool and dry either way...it'll turn it into an ice box in no time :)
