Nobody will ever know that’s a Hillbilly Hack - looks great! We have solid steps on our 2400BH and love them but kinda wish we had some exterior storage boxes like you have now. Excellent how-to video!
Bob R the mounting bolts in the back aren’t perfectly square... but you can’t tell unless the box is open and empty. Super happy with this install... even if it was done by a hillbilly 😁
Nice install video! I'm maxed out on weight so another 40 lbs is not in my future but if I was looking for more storage, those would be top of the list. Cory, get the Ryobi impact driver! You won't be disappointed. 😁
Not sure why Lippert doesn’t provide a bracket for 6” I-Beams 🤷🏻♂️. My trailer does not have that extra horizontal metal piece so the only option for me would be to have an extra piece of I-beam welded to the frame.
That is interesting, but you better check those self tapping screws constantly! They are weak and will lot last with vibration from traveling. If it was mine I would use at least 3/8” grade 5 bolts on sides and back. You do not want that box to break off while driving.
Look good to me, tell the wife you need impact driver. I LIKE IT, I will bring my rig by later. You need to start training your little helpers. Good job
Thanks for the videos. I have the same RV and I'm looking to replace my steps with the solid steps also. Was the step install straight forward and simple?
Wandering Weekends totally understand and thanks for the info. We have solid steps on our trailer and I was thinking about the same change so I really appreciate the video and the clarification. It’s great to see you build this channel
Great video. How are your EAZ Lift stab jacks holding up? Any rust? My factory ones were rusting immediately from factory and I am thinking about replacing them.
We have a 2018 Grand Design Imagine and I will have the same issue with the 6in I-beam when I install our storage box. I was wondering if you were able to use the slots in the bracket and the tabs on the back of the box to support the weight (after you put the 4 self tapping screws in the top of the bracket) of the box while you finished the “Hillbilly Hack”? I noticed you had some blocks under the storage box as well as the clamps you mentioned. Thanks!
Great Video....I have the same issue as you, a 6 inch I beam. However, I don't have the lower bracket like you do. Would this work if I used the 4 top screws to go into the I Beam and then come in the side with some screws for some added support? I really want one of these boxes to work, but am concerned about not having the additional bottom support without the 8 inch I beam. Thanks for your help!
I really like that the bottom support is there so I’m not sure I’d be happy without it or not. That said the boxes are rock solid even with the rear bolts. Tough call.
One of the benefits to upgrading to the solid steps the load up inside the doorway is a guy can get rid of the low hanging box we're here in Montana can catch on rocks and uneven terrain driving back to more secluded camping spots. For this reason I would not buy these boxes.
so these are not the Lippert boxes? I bought the steps, the hinges and the storage box. The storage box is very expensive, small, poor quality and I am sure it will rust out in no time, no door seal and cheap lock. The steps and hinges were ok. Expensive but ok. I also bought the hand rail piece of garbage as well.
I can only speak to the boxes I have. They’re very nice. Heavy as hell actually. Had me a bit worried. Nice seal. 1000’s of miles and zero water/dust. I’m not sure what you have but mine are great.
@@WanderingWeekends Thanks again. We are talking about 2 different styles, I thought I was purchasing what you have. Mine are thin metal, no gasket completely different lock closure component. Not sure why I was sent these. I received mine in late spring, maybe they changed? Thanks again.
The box weighs 40lbs... the steps I removed weighed around 25... in the end 30lbs added to the rig for the boxes and another 70 or so for the solid steps.
cody thorton man... pro RUclipsrs have you guys spoiled these days. It’s amazing it’s not OK for someone to be an amateur on this platform anymore... when that’s precisely who the platform was started for. Cheers and 👎 to you as well!! 🤣😂
I love this. if i ever buy the better steps, this is a great way to fill the hole the old cheap camp stairs were in.
You can never complain about free, you make it work. I like it better than other items I've seen. Thanks for sharing.
Bruce Murray appreciate you watching!
Nice job looks great too. Can never have too much storage !
You got that right!
great extra storage. Thanks for sharing the video
gus Paca appreciate you watching!!
Definitely an upgrade for the future. Thanks.
Thanks for stopping by!!
Hell to the yes!! Mail it man, it’s definitely better than government work LoL!
haha!
Cory, Absolutely Awesome my friend! Love those storage boxes. Great vid brother.
Good video and you’ll definitely love the extra storage.
Kevin Cameron appreciate that! Already loving it!

I’m showing Brooke all of these suggestions for an impact driver... maybe I’ll luck out!! 🤣😂
Great vid! Looking to install the steps and box myself. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!!
Yep, my hubby approves👍🏼
Great show
Looks good bro, here in Texas that falls under the category of Git r Done!

About a year now. Solid as a rock. Thanks.
also a crack vibration support inside the box.
but add on a couple drain holes. with rubber drain tubes in them.(keeps rd splash out).

Very simple! Here is the install vid we did... ruclips.net/video/zKdtT4QeBeg/видео.html
Boy it’s clean under your rig 😀😀😀😀👍🏻40lb add but what did you take off with the steps gone?
Between both pairs I added around 40lbs after removing old stairs. Good point. What I mean to say isn’t always what makes it out of my mouth. 🤣😂

Thanks Simon! How are you guys enjoying camping?!

Ray Lingerfelt they’re holding up great. Dollar for dollar probably our best upgrade.
I need to ask a dumb question....how are you going to get in and out of the rig now?
The boxes look great btw...and certainly see the utility!
Bill Adkinson we installed SolidSteps a few vids back 😊 Here you go... ruclips.net/video/zKdtT4QeBeg/видео.html
If that was me, I'd replace the 2 lower screws with bolts, but that is just me, I trust bolts over screws.
Lock washers are comforting! I may take that advice. Thank you!
Love the tee shirt
Thanks!! Only you!! 😂
I'm curious why you didn't use/also use the existing bolt holes from the steps, you took out, to secure the box?
You could... more than one way to skin this cat.

I've missed something...just what are 'solid steps'?
here you go! ruclips.net/video/zKdtT4QeBeg/видео.html
Could you throw your shoes in it when the stairs are down, or does the door have to be closed?
No, once the stairs are down it’s inaccessible. I put my chocks and Andersen levelers in one and my sewer equipment in the other.

@Wandering Weekends thanks.....do you think adding screws through the current side plate into the box might help with stability?
Yes!
Would it make a difference if the door swung up to open instead of down to open?
Denden 501 you’d have to hold the door open that way... unless you installed some type of shock assist.
Too funny. No mention of how you are going to get into your camper. (I think)
Haha... this is an optional mod after one upgrades to the SolidStep by Lippert.
I wanna be your best friend so you can do it for me😁
Good job, looks good 👍
Bring it on over!! 😂

I've had it happen. Got hung up on a stump while dry camping.

The box weighs 40lbs... the steps I removed weighed around 25... in the end 30lbs added to the rig for the boxes and another 70 or so for the solid steps.
@@WanderingWeekends ok thank you
👍👍👍
if you are ever interested in selling the old aluminum steps let me know. Looking to upgrade from my steel steps
Kevin Burroughs you are welcome to them! No charge... that would be bad juju 😁
Send me an email wanderingwknds@gmail.com

The frame for the aluminum steps was left on the trailer. To remove steps you remove the top 4 carriage bolts.
nice tip. you got a thumb down from me do to your poor audio. all audio needs to be at one level thx. hope you can sort this out and spread the word
