- A detailed installation and review / overview of the new for JOYING Plug and Play Head Unit 9 inch 1280*800P Screen for For Honda Civic 2012-2015. This head unit supports wired and wireless Android Auto and wired and wireless Apple Carplay. You can also use offline navigation apps without an internet connection. I will show you exactly how to install this unit and how to set it up. You can also have a backup camera and all of the other features that an Android based stereo system gives you. The process for the 2013-2015 Civic is very similar to the 2012 Civic shown here. If you have a 2 piece system (separate heater vent and stereo) you will want to buy this version (8gb/128gb) ebay.us/pWUggc
If you want the 4gb/64gb model buy this ebay.us/JewQxr
If you have the combined heater vent and stereo model (2013-up) you will want this unit ebay.us/wVbnL1
This is the backup camera I recommend amzn.to/3KSQltp
This is the USB port I used amzn.to/3XTv45u

I have a 2012 LX manual transmission. It's super clean as I bought from an older couple and it had very low miles. Not as fun as an Si but at least it's manual. I plan on nav unit, exhaust, rims and wheels, and intake then I'm happy
Would you happen to know if you can swap your cars type of transmission into a 2012 ex sedan automatic?
pls no exhaust lmao
Thanks for the video. I just DIY upgraded my 2012 Honda Civic Coupe head unit to the Joying head unit. Pretty simple install. Night and day difference in sound. The EQ on the Joying is crazy customizable. Wireless Android auto works like a charm. All the steering wheel controls works.
Nice work!

I just finished installing this in my 2012 Honda Civic and I can’t thank you enough for this video! I was so nervous about installing it myself, but thanks to you it went perfectly!
Great to hear!

Dude for the love of God, is a base model civic. Just accept that it's a verliable, good commuter, fuel efficient vehicle that will never be anything sporty.
Don't make your slow civic sound like it's going a 100 when you're reversing out of the parking lot

Holy crap that looks good, i love my 2015 Civic. Curious why you set it up as a crv in developer options?
Good job installing it, clearly was not the second time doing it huh!
The CRV and Civic use the same canbus settings
Thank you for this video! I ordered this unit for my 2012 LX coupe and am excited to have this functionality! I am curious why you chose Honda CRV for the model if this is a civic.
😅
It was chosen by Joying. It's the same canbus settings so it really doesn't matter.
Ayyy I got a 2012 lx coupe too, you know any other mods your gonna do?

How does reverse camera get triggered. I got same one bc of the video and don’t see a trigger wire at radio. Thanks
Hi there. Just want to ask you how is everything with your unit… Thanks.
I wish they made one for my 14 silverado and thabks for the help on my wifes crv she loves it
Great video. Thanks for the help!
Hey. Thanks a bunch for making the video, it helped me a ton with the installation. Everything works on mine except the sound. The aux connected together didn't do the trick. Not sure what else I can do

In 2020 I installed in my '14 civic a Sony XAV AX-7000. It Has 4 x 45W RMS built in Amp. I've yet to find another headunit with comparable built in amperage. It sounds amazing even though the screen is aiight (7 inches). I didnt hear your mention of this product's amperage
If I use this, I'll also get the Alpine KTA-450 4-Channel Power Pack Amplifier with Dynamic Peak Power 45W RMS
Hi there. Super helpful video. Do you recall the hole size for the usb above the cig lighter? Guessing 19mm?
great video
It looks like you didnt disconnect the car battery? Nothing to be worried blowing a fuse? Just curious coz I came across someone saying that they blew a fuse. Thanks for the great video
It's plug and play so no I didn't disconnect the battery.
Did the steering wheel phone controls work?
Came here to ask this
He said at 17:50, "It works with the factory steering wheel control you don't need to change anything."
Nice video. I just bought an after market radio as well and I was just wondering how you managed to get the last two screws holding the radio in place out? I can’t seem to undo them as there on their pretty tight. Just wondering if I’m doing something wrong or if there’s a better way to getting them undone.
Using 8 mm socket instead of a screw head
Pardon my ignorance, but I noticed you added updated links in the description for "UPDATE: New for 2023/2024 Android 12 Version with DTS Audio". What are the main differences between the original unit and this new updated unit? Is it just the OS version? I am not super aware of audio stuff, is DTS audio a lot better quality?
It's completely new hardware inside. All new operating system and a new user interface. I would say overall the new version is superior but the Android 10 units are really good too. I would watch some videos of the different models and see what you think. Can't go wrong with either.
Gotcha, thanks for the reply. Also, great video! @@JackofAllMasterofNone
I love my '14 civic
Amazing video you helped me out so much, how did you determine XP, Honda, CRV settings will work best for you? Is that what it defaulted to?
Yes. The default.
I love the display that the 2012 android has, will the 2014-15 have the same display or have the option to change the display to what you currently have
It's the same display
Great informative video. Do you know if it would support the factory right-side turning camera as well as the factory backup?
Yes it will
Got mine installed and loving it! I am having an issue with the backup camera you listed, when I put the car in reverse, it switches to the camera screen but it's black. I played with the camera settings but no joy. Possibly a bad camera? The car is a manual shift, maybe this is slightly different?
The camera gets power from the reverse lights. So you have to connect the included camera power wire to the positive and negative in the back at the reverse lights. If that is correct than it's either a bad video wire or a bad camera.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone it was a bad camera, thanks again for your help!
@@JackofAllMasterofNone I have a question on the reverse lights, which one do I connect the wires? I see 2 one having a green, black and blue wire and there’s another in the back with the red and black wire on the trunk lid?
thnaks for the vid, clean install. i just dont know why you'd spend 500 for some junk no name chinese Android unit
Because it's not some "junk no name Chinese Android unit" You obviously don't have a clue about Joying stereos.
You can find junk all day on Amazon and eBay with low specs that run Android, but that's not this unit... I would put this up against any Kenwood, Pioneer, JVC, etc. unit any day.
Thanks for the awesome video! I was wondering if there was any sort of way to track fuel economy. My '15 Civic EX has the factory head unit and my favorite feature is that it calculates the trip's fuel economy and I was wondering if this could also do that. Thanks again :)!
Jack, Thanks for uploading this detailed video for this unit. I just recently picked up a '12 civic with a 5-speed manual transmission. This civic of mine still has the factory stereo installed in it. I do have a question that you did address, but I have a question for security reasons. If you do have your car go in for any kind of service in a shop and you do not want prying eyes going through your stereo settings or anything you don't want access to, is there a code you can use to lock out anyone? Not just your email idea, but the whole stereo rendered useless save for you? I do have an iphone and would want the stereo set up on the configuration. Thank you for this video upload.

Not that I know of personally. There has to be some sort of app that could do that though. I just have never had the need to do it.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone Thanks for the response.
Good question. There's no pw upon startup option I guess..... like how a android tablet has
@JackofAllMasterofNone I would advise creating a secondary account that doesn't have all your personal info .
@JackofAllMasterofNone
Does this head unit come with all required wiring, wiring harness, etc and the frame you used in this video? I have the exact 2012 Honda Civic.
Great video! Do you have another video for the backup camera?
No I don't. Not on this vehicle
Great video! Thanks for the explanation. How do you consider the sound quality of this brand?
Excellent sound quality. Joying has come a long way and the sound quality is equal to Pioneer or Kenwood units with a larger EQ
On the factory amp how did you manage to have sound. did you bypass the factory amp to get sound?
There is no factory amp in this trim level. It's built in to the head unit.
This is amazing but I own a 2013 Civic Si. The center trim piece has a carbon fiber weave to it from the factory and I was wondering if they offer a trim piece to match the Si's interior?
Unfortunately, I didn’t see one. But being that my car is wrapped emerald green, I’ll probably wrap that trim piece as well… I have a 13 si sedan
This is so nice i can't wait til i get mine installed im so sick of these buttons
Great vid. Do you know if this model works with lane watch camera?
Did you ever find out if it does?
How has it held up over time? Awesome video!
Thanks
The video is fairly recent, but it still works great!
Quick question, I see you're still able to switch screens on the i-MID but it appears that the fuel economy stats and odometer are blank? Does the information appear once you've started the car fully rather than just in accessory mode? Also, are you still able to access the menu to reset the maintenance reminders? Those are like the 2 things stopping me from pulling the trigger on an upgrade haha.
Yes everything works just like factory.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone Awesome thanks for getting back to me! Much appreciated :)
Does the factory back up camera still show up on the imid?
Yes
I was trying to hook up my 2012 Honda civic to a new head unit and I wasn’t getting any audio but I also didn’t have a plug in for audio unit connector E. Not sure if you could give me any advise?
Do videos play while driving or only with the parking brake set?
It can play while driving. There is a setting to switch in the settings.
Great video but it keeps my factory radio screen on any suggestions on how to fix
This is some sort of issue that has just come up. My guess is it's something to do with the can bus settings or the CAN bus adapter box that joting is now shipping. I would reach out to them for a solution
Great video, but did you ever get your steering wheel phone buttons to work?
The phone buttons don't work because they are connected directly to the imid screen, not the stereo. There may be a way to make them work, but I haven't figured it out yet. It's a problem on the Honda. No aftermarket stereo can use those phone buttons. The volume and left right, etc. work fine though. The regular controls are through the canbus network but the phone controls are analog and wired to the imid.
Thank you. i request to know if this installation has OBD2 and TPMS involved, i plan to buy this unit soon and install it my self. thanks
i want my unit to work like exactly in your video
Its plug and play. You can add OBD2 bluetooth adapter and add on TPMS from Joying if you would like.
My exact car thank you! Do you also know where I can find the dashboard button decals
What decals?
Ideally i want my back up in the small screen
If you have a stock backup camera it will stay in the small screen and will not show on the big screen. You have to do additional modifications to make it show on the big screen so it sounds like out of the box it will work perfect for you
Not able to remove the plastic, am I doing it wrong?
Do you have any recommendations for a slightly cheaper option? I just got my 2012 Civic LX with the base stereo and as a college student I don't have a ton of money to throw around. Do you recommend waiting and saving up for a more expensive stereo setup, or will a cheaper option work fine? And if so, what are some of the cheaper options you would reccomend?
Unfortunately the cheaper Android based stereos are pretty crappy. You could always just use a dash kit with harness adapter and put in a universal type double din stereo.
Great video, I'm considering installing one into my '12 Civic Si. One question though, you mention late in the video when you're demonstrating the Android Auto and Apple Carplay, you connect them wired and you mention that it "doesn't automatically connect via bluetooth, you have to do that manually via the bluetooth app".
Does that mean that if you want to use Apple Carplay wirelessly that you have to re-pair your phone each time you get in the car? Or did you mean you still have to manually pair the phone as part of the initial setup even though you connected wired?
You just have to pair it as part of the initial setup. It will connect wirelessly automatically.
Great, thanks for the response. And in case you know, will this unit work with the steering wheel phone controls and factory subwoofer in the Civic Si?
@@jprice4250 don't think it works with phone controls, just the volume and left right. Not sure about the subwoofer
@@JackofAllMasterofNone Cool...thanks. If I end up installing the unit I'll update here with results. Appreciate the video and quick replies!
In case anyone is wondering, I found this on the eBay page for this item:
"Purchase Notice:
* Acceptable for vehicles with Left Wheel only.
* Please send us a dashboard picture of your car after you place an order. Or inform us whether your car has Premium Sound System or not.
* If you don't leave us a note, we will include the default harness for base model (the one without big screen and without Premium Sound System)."
So it seems they have a different harness for the models with the premium sound system or the Navigation. I've ordered the unit and requested the Premium harness, will update with my findings when I get it installed.
Hello again, question on the backup camera. Do you just have to connect the RCA video connection and not the trigger wire? I noticed that you had the trigger wire taped off so I'm guessing this unit turns on when video is present and doesn't depend on a trigger wire? (I hope I'm describing this correctly, haven't installed a backup camera yet)
This unit turns on the camera because of the canbus network sending the signal to the radio that it is in reverse, so you do not need the trigger wire.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone , great...thanks again for the quick reply. Awaiting delivery of my radio, so appreciate the tips.
@@jprice4250 you ever get it installed? How'd it turn out?
Yes. All works like a champ. Installed the camera above the plate, wired the power to the backup lights, ran the wire to the unit and it works great. Been very happy with the unit. It works well. The screen has gone dark on me twice but the system still worked. (Could hear things fine) but it returned to normal the next day. Might have gotten too hot it, it was in the middle of summer when the car was outside all day while I was at work.
Just bought this today. Looking forward to the install!! Great instal vid too. Is there anything that needs to be connected before installing? The canbus or is it just plug and play?
Plug and play
@@JackofAllMasterofNone Awesome! Thank you🤘🏻
@@Nikotine556how was your experience so far? I have a 12 civic si, and im wondering if the radio for that price is worth it?
So how does the backup camera work when it already appears in the i-mid screen? Is something rewired so the feed goes to the head unit instead?
My car did not have a factory backup camera and an aftermarket one was added. If you have a factory one it can be made to feed into the head unit but it requires tapping into the feed going into the imid display and is more complicated. By default it will just stay using the imid.
I'd worry about somebody breaking in and ripping it out, it pretty secure to prevent that from happening?
That's a chance you're just gonna have to take
It looks factory. That's just a risk with any factory stereo. Someone wants to break in to steal a factory radio there's not much you can do
Did you had to install the backup camera yourself. Or did the screen came with it? Or did your 2012 Honda already had it built in?
Had to install it myself.
Look in your armrest. You should have a USB outlet in there.
Does the usb port inside the center armrest still work?
I'm sure you can route one of the USB extensions to that hole. That's what I didn with another factory stereo install
Have the same question… Can you help us? Thanks.
Looks like they don't make one for my 2016 Civic Tourer 😢
I have the same car but an si. I like this radio but to expensive.. any cheaper ones I could get?
I don't recommend the cheaper ones. You get what you pay for in this case.
Chit video. I was doing those type of installs at age 11.
How's the sound? I tried one of these Android head units in an older civic and the sound was awful. I sent it back and got a double-din Pioneer head unit which sounded way better
Awesome. A major upgrade over the factory stereo and on par with any Kenwood/Pioneer/JVC stereo.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone I might give it a try but the Civic has the "Premium Sound" and the Android unit isn't compatible
Just wondering, why would you use that rear camera instead of the Joying camera that they advertise is better optimezed and compatible with the stereo?
The HD camera does not work when the head unit is in a full boot such as when the car has been off for a long time. The analog camera works great and immediately comes on when shifted in reverse, even before the head unit boots up
Did you use the Canbus harness to connect your aftermarket radio to keep and wreckonize your cars original dashboard information?
It's all in the video. Yes
can you still get the odometer and gas mileage screen on the little screen section on the dashboard?
Yes
I just installed mine, everything works and sounds great except my music will cut out for a slip second randomly, typically a bunch of times during a song. How do I fix this? Is this a wiring error I made?
Definitely not normal. Im sorry but I have no idea why it would be doing that. I would just check to make sure all connections are reseated and everything is tight. Could be a defective head unit.
Would you happen to know a place where I can buy the harness for the accessories? My radio didn’t come with it and I’d love to get steering wheel control and illumination control but I can’t seem to find the right one. Thank you!
Would have to reach out to Joying directly. www.joyingauto.com/
How’s it holding up? Any battery kill?
No, it works perfectly. The unit completely shuts down if it senses that the vehicle battery is too low.
Debating on getting this, how is it working for you right now?
Works great
Did you install an external microphone? How is the call quality? Thank you!
Just used internal mic. Dont use the phone so cant comment honestly. Id say from past experience its decent but you have to speak loudly and clearly for others to hear you properly.
Which socket/connector communicates the source of audio (and channel or song name) from the device to the little iMID display ? I installed Joying head unit yesterday but the iMID screen says “Audio off”! But my civic is 2015 hybrid with the factory DA screen so the harness could be slightly different. I might have not connected the said socket/connector properly too
Also, the device did not click in place (it has the bracket with the climate controls and vent). One side is coming out and it’s annoying! Should I buy new clips and replace the old ones?
This sounds like a canbus issue. All of that info is transmitted via canbus data network.
I’ve installed in my car but Imid screen is not turning off even the car is off
Hello Jack!
That radio is awesome. I have a question, do you know if that radio supports the USB port inside the center console? My civic is an exl and has a usb port there
Yes it does
In factory settings, why'd you leave it at CRV if it's a Civic?
They are the same.
Can I connect to it using my phone via bluetooth to play spotify? Or should I download spotify onto the radio using the in-built app store? Would it be able to get a connection using my cell data or would I be limited to offline play? Any clarification on using spotify would be much appreciated!
Can play over Bluetooth or what I would recommend is to connect your phone via USB and use CarPlay or Android Auto to play Spotify. Many options.
Will my steering wheel controls still work? How about the stock backup and lanewatch camera?
All of that works
Why can’t you use the original camera to the radio?
You can. My 2012 Civic did not come with an OEM backup camera
No satellite radio?
No
do you have to install the USB cord in order for apple carplay to work?
You can use wireless without it.
