Excellent tutorial. I will only be using this tool to compose the harmonies, but then sing the parts myself. That being said, it is incredible how natural the generated harmonies sound from a single source. You pointed out just the right controls to get me going with confidence. Thanks!
If you get to understand harmonies better, you can find notes that this gadget might not be able to come up with. Try analysing chords, and find what different notes do. Use the scale of C on a keyboard, Play C then try different notes. Count the number up the scale. Major 1 3 5. Add other notes. You can use black and white notes. Listen to the different chords you can create. I luckily have the ability to do my arrangements on the fly. So I start with the melody. add one 3rd up, then 5th up. Bass tends to sing fewer notes and often the root note of the chord. Have fun.
I would redesign the UI of this software. I would put the settings related to the key, at the left, as it is the startingpoint, and add that sensitivity settings to that, to make it clear it is part of the setting up process, and arrange them in a more vertical design, that goes the full height of the UI. I would fit the In audio gain in to that block. I would then do a clear dividing vertical live that goes from the top to the bottom of the UI. To the right of that, at the top, I would start with a preset browser, for selecting presets, that changes the settings of the hamony channels, as well as how the harmonizer engine behaves, and what parts harmony channels get choir added to them, it would not change the settings of the parameters left of the divider as that is about the setting up process, to make the software respond correctly, and not related to the creative part of how the software should then behave. (For the choir section I would add the In channel activation button to the right of the divider to show it is part of the preset system). This is after all a vocal harmony effects plugin, and not a plugin for adding realistic harmonies, so having presets to control the creative settings, makes sense. Even if it was about making realistic harmonies, I still don't agree with the UI, as the important settings for how the engine responds to the input, should still be at the left of the the interface, and grouped in a way that makes sense.
@@Auto-Tune I'm wondering if you can route a MIDI track into the harmony engine to guide it. I did that with a hardware box called the Digitech Vocalist Access where the box would listen on a particular MIDI channel that the track was set to output to, and the vocal audio was processed by the box.
@@jeopardy60611 I believe Harmony Engine has that capability to process midi outputs from another channel and mix it in. Also, I saw somewhere on another channel where you can use this software with a midi controller for the vocal harmonies. I’ll try to find it and post it here. But I think this is a great tool, and time saver, and it’s so multifaceted with a lot of little features for your sessions.
Awesome tut! I'm looking into buying the Harmony Engine from Antares. Put it into my Windows 10 DAW! can The Antares Harmony Engine program-to-only function during simple backup Harmony and full harmonies for the chorus?
I wanna use this in logic with the harmony source set to MIDI Omni but I can’t figure out how to route the midi correctly so it’s giving harmony engine the melodic information correctly…
I was excited for this one but it really falls short. The harmonies sound way too robotic. Would be cool if you made a low latency mode so you can record with plugin on. Doesn’t come close to recording your own harmonies. Again, I really want this to work great.
When I am on midi omni mode, it dosnt recognize my sustain pedal anymore?? So i have to hold a chord on my midi instead of just holding the sustain pedal.. Anyone know why??
Can i force this to work with Windows 7 ? My windows 7 is good till 2023 and I have updates installed -- I see alot of requirements say win 10 but I manage to install VST and other PAID software on 7 Just dont wanna pay $200 without knowing for sure
But the most interesting harmonies in pop and rock history switch intervals some times a third sometimes a 4th ect...this is why music is crap nowadays...people are relying heavily on tech but the people creating the tech aren't musical enough to make a deep enough impact on music
Yes, it should be pointed out that this is an effects plugin, not an actual way to create realistic group vocals. It doesn't sound realistic enough. And typically, when singing in a group, there are parts that are unison, or where there is only a solo singer, and the people singing harmonies, usually switch it up, and don't sing a perfect interval, and even if there was always someone singing the perfect interval, that would likely not be the same person throughout the song.
Sir, you're blessing when it comes to explaining things .. relaxed, very easy to understand and engaging .. love it :)

Tito, it sounds like you're not being 100% honest with us...
Nice vibe with the Highways song! Great tutorial, Harmony Engine really sounds good.
Thank you for clearing up how to use this I was baffled 😽
Awesome tutorial. So good. Also love the songs.
Best explanation ever!! Can't wait to watch more of Josh Carney's videos on Antares products, especially more deep dives on the Harmony Engine.
Yo this plugin is crazy. So sick

Amazing tutorial.
This was EXCELLENT! Is there a follow-up to this as well? A Part 2, advanced video.
Good job bro!

Agreed on the design of the UI which needs to be changed. It just looks horrible
Hay can you make omni mode tutorial ?
Agreed!
Nice work Josh..... I know it's been awhile but can you do more harmony setup and saving certain harmony settings
Thanks. Are the more in-depth tutorials coming out soon? I’m most interested in harmonizing live via MIDI keyboard.
Thanks for your suggestion.

Dope!!🗣🔥
This plugin is sick
Love the plugin, but it crashes my DAW, along with the AVOX plugins??
I love this machine, great for choir...can you do editing of a song that has already been recorded?
Do you like this better than the izotope vocal harmony plug-in?
Is this harmonizer available as a desktop or rackmount unit that I can actually hold in my hand, or is it a program for a DAW only?

fantastic
Nice thumbs up
Thx buddy nice video
Is harmony engine a different plug-in from Auto tune ?
Yes it is, It's a harmony generating plugin and not focused on tuning vocals which the Auto-tune plugins do.
Adding a Humanize option would be great.
Magic!
Hey Josh.. are there any resources for setting up in regards to the 4 intervals with Harmony Engine ?
Classes and videos dealing with music theory would be a great place to start to learning about harmonization. Thank you.

can you use this live ,,thanks
thank you Sir!!!!..
thank u so helpfully

Can you tell me the last song name please ?

The phasing is annoying
agreed, it’s like the formant shifting really fucks with the sound at some times
ZERO about midi... I guess that requires someone that can actually play a piano..
