"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is a nine-part Pink Floyd composition written by David Gilmour, Roger Waters, and Rick Wright. It appeared on Pink Floyd's 1975 album Wish You Were Here. The song was conceived and written as a tribute and remembrance to their former band member Syd Barrett, a founding member of Pink Floyd. Barrett was ousted from the band by the other members in 1968 due to his drug use and (partly-related) troubled mental health, which had affected his ability to integrate with the rest of the band and perform and create as a musician. He was replaced by David Gilmour, Barrett's former school friend who had initially been brought in as second guitar. The remaining band members felt guilty for removing him, but they viewed it as necessary, admiring Barrett's creativity and being concerned about his severe mental decline. Barrett incident Syd Barrett, visiting Abbey Road Studios on 5 June 1975 One day during recording, Barrett (now heavyset, with a completely shaved head and eyebrows) wandered into the studio (although Mason has since stated that he is not entirely certain whether "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was the particular work being recorded when Barrett was there). Because of his drastically changed appearance, the band did not recognize him for some time. When they eventually determined the withdrawn man in the corner was Barrett, Roger Waters became so distressed about Barrett's appearance he was reduced to tears.[6] Someone asked to play the suite again for Barrett and he said a second playback was not needed when they had just heard it. When asked what he thought of the song, Barrett said it sounded a "bit old". a special thanks to Dick Parry and his saxophone ! wonderful

As a school kid in England in the 70s, freezing cold and dark winter mornings, I’d stick headphones on and listen to this, really loud, each day, as I got dressed in front of the heater before getting on my pushbike to deliver newspapers before heading to school. I swear it was the thing that got me going every day... and now, 45 years later, it’s still amazing, and never boring ! The definition of a masterpiece

I mean!! It's undescribable. I'm a fan since my parents introduced me to Pink Floyd in the late 70's. I was about 11/12 years old when the dark side of the moon came out. And still, after almost 50 years I think no music band has ever produced such a diamond 💎. It's still timeless.
This equals ANY of the best concerts I've ever seen or listened to. Brilliant. Instrumentals, vocals, songs, effects... THIS is MUSIC at the most elite level.
Its my birthday today and I remember listening to Pink Floyd when I was four years old. I am still a fan. Not one thing compares. Not. A. Single. Thing. ☀️

Pink Floyd. Pulse. As they embark for their American tour. They will have 3 identical stages touring the Americas at the same time. Each stage takes 3 days to setup. 49 simis of equipment for each show. Enough power to make the light show look as bright as the sun. Take a mockup of the Hollywood bowl on tour. Have the best lightshow ever built. Largest round screen with it's own lightshow. Biggest mirror ball ever on tour. This show was just pure Genous. Pink Floyd is by far the most extravagant band ever. Now let's talk the music. Well, I really have no words but just impeccable class. Gilmour self-taught guitar player who barrowed a guitar at 11 and never returned it. The rest is history at its finest. I seen this show Amis Iowa along with Division bell tour. It changed my life. In my eyes no one even comes close.
Saw Pink Floyd on Thursday, Jan. 27, 1977 in Frankfurt Festhalle, Animals Tour, best 18 DM I ever spent in Germany, best concert I have ever seen! The cool part is I still remember most of it. No other group/artist can touch 'em.

Remember when you were young? You shone like the sun Shine on, you crazy diamond Now there's a look in your eyes Like black holes in the sky Shine on, you crazy diamond You were caught in the cross fire Of childhood and stardom Blown on the steel breeze Come on, you target for faraway laughter Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine! You reached for the secret too soon You cried for the moon Shine on, you crazy diamond Threatened by shadows at night And exposed in the light Shine (shine) on, you crazy (you crazy) damond Well, you wore out your welcome With random precision Rode on the steel breeze Come on, you raver, you seer of visions Come on, you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!
Unfortunately i was born too late. Have seen a video of it that my uncle has. That was my introduction to Pink Floyd at the age of 11. Id been havjng classical piano lessons for a few years by then and not long started learning to play guitar, and we sat up late one night before a few of us going fishing the next day and watched this. I was astounded by it and that was it ive since been hooked on the sound.

I listened intently to this in it's entirety after watching Raychel Ruth George's celebration of Life. It touched my soul in such a different way than ever before. At almost 70 years old I was too busy trying to keep my mentally ill son safe, my other children safe and me from not giving up or in. After all the time I have come to the conclusion that if your not a little touched, then you haven't touched Life. I didn't know the internal history of this song within the band and it was truly heartbreaking to hear how he had wandered into the studio and he was unrecognizable to his band mate's and he was in such rough shape that it made one cry. Life makes us cry and Life also brings Life which brings Joy. My compassion to all the people who have loved anyone who has been touched. Wether they are touched in the head OR touched by the hand of GOD in all reality truly only GOD Knows. Be Blessed Everyone, I will leave the light's on so the last one out PLEASE turn out the Light's. 🙏 & ❤

Syd Barrett, visiting Abbey Road Studios on 5 June 1975
One day during recording, Barrett (now heavyset, with a completely shaved head and eyebrows) wandered into the studio (although Mason has since stated that he is not entirely certain whether "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was the particular work being recorded when Barrett was there). Because of his drastically changed appearance, the band did not recognize him for some time. I am one of lucky ones to attend few of their concerts. ♥️ Floyd
One of the top 10 songs in Global music history...
I mean!! It's undescribable. I'm a fan since my parents introduced me to Pink Floyd in the late 70's. I was about 11/12 years old when the dark side of the moon came out. And still, after almost 50 years I think no music band has ever produced such a diamond 💎. It's still timeless.
"Pulse" is the best live album in the history of music. Period. 👊😎🙌
Im 62 now watching pink floyd leaves me speachless ,it truly brings me back, were lucky to have had them.!!
Yes
This is the very best version of probably the greatest song ever writen, one of pink floyd's masterpieces
Every time you hear a Pink floyd song that´s what you will say. They are all the "greatest"

Don't forget the backup singers, gorgeous.

Its my birthday today and I remember listening to Pink Floyd when I was four years old. I am still a fan. Not one thing compares. Not. A. Single. Thing. ☀️
This song ages like a fine wine , it just gets better and better as my teenage years wind on and I begin to comprehend and feel this music in a way like never before.
I never in 45 years of listening to this, get tired of listening to this,or Pink Floyd in general. Any of his guitar solos make chill bumps run up my arms and neck, and I love that saxophone solo🎼🎸🎷❤️
I played this at my sister bedside as she was dying. I know she heard it, she shown like the sun!

There is music, Then there is PINK FLOYD..
...
....
Pink Floyd.
David is the fender god .... how can any hate . These boys have been with me throughput my life .... seeing them live brought me to my knees . Standing before me I was learning to fly .... thank you for the music .... ❤️😎

This song is so epic. A masterpiece. A trip to the sideral space. Thanks Pink Floyd for existing, for the talent and incredible music.
Happy new year. 29/12/2020❤️
They sent us on the best trip ever..... intense enough to last for ages to come.
When people ask do i like Rap music..? I say just watch Pink Floyd live and then ask me why or how could i ever love Rap music..?
Just the idea of calling it music, curdles my blood.
Played on my fathers funeral... he left his own footprints :-) Love him :-)
Yes, beautiful of you, that this is my wish too!
This was played at my best friend funeral today RIP sue you were a diamond xx
Watching this as a teenager inspired me to become a guitarist and everyday I honor David Gilmour’s memory through my guitar playing. No one can ever top the feel he has in his music.
Here again. One of the constants in an ever changing long life--there, like an understanding friend, for times of uncertainty and joy-- are the Floyd. Turned 63 recently, I get old, the Floyd magic never ages.

Absolutely sensational - a timeless classic that will never be forgotten - truly moving!!
The most amazing piece of music ever written. You are really the greatest band Pink Floyd!
Remember when you were young?
You shone like the sun
Shine on, you crazy diamond
Now there's a look in your eyes
Like black holes in the sky
Shine on, you crazy diamond
You were caught in the cross fire
Of childhood and stardom
Blown on the steel breeze
Come on, you target for faraway laughter
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon
You cried for the moon
Shine on, you crazy diamond
Threatened by shadows at night
And exposed in the light
Shine (shine) on, you crazy (you crazy) damond
Well, you wore out your welcome
With random precision
Rode on the steel breeze
Come on, you raver, you seer of visions
Come on, you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

Was at this concert... Blew me away, a spiritual experience.
My most favorite group of all time. I could listen to them all day.
This is what real music sounds like, I'm 40 this year and I've been fortunate enough to see Roger Waters 3 times and David Gilmore 1 time. Probably one of my top 3 concerts I've been too (waters)

Buona giornata.
Pink Floyd is 4ever!! Remember when I met with some friends every friday night to listen to Pink Floyd LPs in the seventies as 16 year old school kids trying and enjoying some gulps of Martini dreaming to the sheric sounds. This band is one of the best ever. Now I'm playing their songs on guitar. Wish I could like David!
For some reason the line "Nobody knows where you are...." is very much more appealing, more emotional than in the album recording. This Pulse concert recording really was a work of genius by all concerned, unrepeatable perfection.
Best concert I’ve ever been to see them twice at Earls Court London
Listening to these songs from 50 years ago and comparing them with those played now, I am so saddened by this new generation of expressionless people.

@@astraltraveller892 I get it. I would say, it is incredible that these two groups and their members, who came from neighboring areas at basically the same time frame, are considered to be two of the greatest groups of all time. LZ and PF have set a standard that few, if any, other groups will attain to.
Close, just can't beat Beethoven's 5th symphony, but very musically close, raising human emotions to strangeness.
I was at this concert in Sep 94 played in Lausanne (ch) engraved forever in my heart this piece will remain for me the best of Floyd .. I thank you HdPink Floyd for all your videos remastered with great sound quality .. a treat for all ... well done ..Pink Floyd the best ❤ ♪ ♫
God bless Pink Floyd and Richard Wright, never get tired of this❤
I listened intently to this in it's entirety after watching Raychel Ruth George's celebration of Life. 🙏 & ❤
