I saw the Pulse concert live in 1994. Lots of people claim that Pink Floyd was at there peak during the Wall. They must have not seen Pulse! I didn’t miss Waters at all! If Richard Wright hadn’t got sick with cancer and passed away, there is no telling what we could have seen. To me, Pulse was Pink Floyd’s peak. So many good songs added to their catalog with early Waters songs. Songs we might have not had if Waters had stayed with the band. Sorrow, Coming Back To Life, On The Turning Away, Poles Apart, High Hopes and Learning To Fly just to name a few.

@@sonus289: Don’t know what planet you are from, but Pink Floyd never self destructed. Roger Waters left the band. But the band kept on going without Waters and never really missed a beat. They released some very successful albums without Waters and sold out concert events everywhere they went. Arenas and stadiums. Pink Floyd disbanded upon Richard Wright’s death. Most of us real fans never missed Waters. I think ol Roger got an unpleasant surprise. He assumed that the band would die off at his departure. I think he grossly underestimated Dave, Richard and Nick. And the fans. Roger left on his own accord and got quite pissy after the band carried on without him. Kind of bruised his massive ego! Roger should have remembered that they also carried on with Syd. Who was at the time, the bands primary song writer, vocalist and guitarist. Yet the band flourished without Syd Barrett. Pink Floyd proved they could survive and be successful without Roger Waters.

The sweet smell of a great sorrow lies over the land
Plumes of smoke rise and merge into the leaden sky
A man lies and dreams of green fields and rivers
But awakes to a morning with no reason for waking
He's haunted by the memory of a lost paradise
In his youth or a dream, he can't be precise
He's chained forever to a world that's departed
It's not enough, it's not enough
His blood has frozen and curdled with fright
His knees have trembled and given way in the night
His hand has weakened at the moment of truth
    His step has faltered
    One world, one soul
    Time pass, the river roll
And he talks to the river of lost love and dedication
And silent replies that swirl invitation
Flow dark and troubled to an oily sea
A grim intimation of what is to be
There's an unceasing wind that blows through this night
And there's dust in my eyes, that blinds my sight
And silence that speaks so much louder than words
    Of promises broken

I saw Pink Floyd a half dozen times and I have to tell you they were so much better in the 80s and 90s than they ever were in the 70's. I respect your opinion though and you have a point. I love a girl that was forced by some circumstances to leave me and marry an other dude who doesn't desearve her and even she doesn't want..Yes she's married by now and I can't get her out of my existance whatever I tried.. so like in the lyrics I am haunted by the memory of a lost paradise.. there is dust in my eyes that blinds my sight.. silence that speaks so much louder than words of promises broken.. Pink Floyd was a group I tried to get into several times and couldn't, I then caught this track a year ago and just keep playing it, have slowly began to listen to more of their songs. I just love this track and especially the guitar playing. Absolutely superb

Hope Floyd grow on you , The Final Cut album is very good & has some great insights regarding the way the World's Woes unravelled & some rare auld tunes aswel otherwise i wouldn't suggest it to you . Take Care . All good thing's take time .

I saw Pink Floyd three times. I saw there first time they played in the US. It was Melted . It was a free concert. Now one ever heard of them.
Station WMMS. WAS telling people to go and they would blow your mind. It was in Cleveland, Ohio. Everyone couldn't say nothing. Cos every one had their jaws on the grown. A maxing. Then they came to Cleveland in the old stadium. The world of Rock. They was jamming but started fading out but still jamming. Then their 747 flue over the stadium as low as they could. The engines was as loud as could be. Then the 747 started to fade out. And then they faded in with another song. It was unreal. I was hooked the first time I saw them at that free concert. But I'm 70 years old now. And I still will be amazed hearing what ever they would play. Pink Floyd perfected music

People either don't realize or have forgotten, just how big of an event the release of AMLOR really was. I was working in college radio at the time and we were constantly inundated with requests to play tracks from the album. It was a very exciting time!
