@ 13:00 . That Asus 13980HX and RTX 4080 for 2499.99 USD looks like a steal. It even has an IPS with Dolby Vison HDR, TB4 and 1600P resolutions. Looks like it pulls 330W and has a MUX switch with Advance Optimus. I believe that model is the Strix G814JZ - G18.I94080. I hope you can do a review on that someday Jarrod. I would love to know if the RAM can be upgraded over 32GB as listed on the manufacture's website, since now, that "should be" the minimum, but I'd like/rather have at least 64GB of the fastest so-dimm DDR5, only if there is someone who can test it and review it with testing these upgraded specs on it. :)
2500 for 4080 and hx processor???? That’s literally a steal

Hey Jarrod!! You promised. You delivered. Mad Respect!!
Great to see this Comparison between old gen and new gen laptops After Checking RUclips every couple of hours for the last 4 days. The wait was Real!! 😂
I will be glad to see either of the following:
1. Full review of Razer Blade (as it will be the premium benchmarks for all the Laptops out there)
2. Performance of Cheaper 4070, 4060 Mobile GPUs against the most Graphically demanding games out there.
Can't wait for either of these!! Keep Rocking mate.
Thanks! There will be videos on both those things in the future.
The Frame Generation is just insane. I can’t wait to see how they are going to make it better. Also, I really hope that AMD is going to make their version of this feature someday.
They have FSR 3.0 and Fluid Frames coming this year. I doubt it will be better than DLSS and FG, but who knows. I am always open to surprises.
DLSS+FG = Lag+Artifacts. Wish it was a different story. Only for easy going games and half blind users.

Thank you for the amazing review, Mr. Jarrod!
Well, we've come a long way.
One thing I'd like to know about laptops this year is how they behave with thunderbolt docks. Last year TB4 wasn't supposed to be compatible with GSYNC and yet my Blade 17 still worked. Most models should ship with USB4/TB4 this year.
as expected, nice job!
Very good but I wished you did a power consumption test. I know the specs are different but it's a good info to have. Nvidia said the 40 series performs better while consuming less and I want to know how much.
Finally! Thank you for the review
Tnx for your review it is very helpful.
Thanks as always, thats super helpful. I've been eyeing up the G614JZ-N3007W ASUS ROG Strix G16 16" FHD+ 165Hz Intel Core i7 RTX 4080 Gaming Laptop coming in around £2,248.99 as an upgrade to Legion 7i with RTX 2070 Super. Seems like a more affordable way to get 4080 gaming on the go, that DLSS 3.0 with Frame generation looks super exciting for single player games if it takes off like you said.
2070 super is still a good GPU imo. Not sure why you want to upgrade. To each their own ig.

No problem! I was originally doing a 20 game comparison but added 5 more after the post asking what people wanted :)
Finally i was waiting this for two weeks by now
thank you very much for all that you do, appricate it very much.
Seems the sales if you have like a microcenter type place is where it's at. Though if you need the faster speed that doesn't matter much. Seems to be a fair jump up compared to the last few years 10x to 20x was pretty bad and 20x to 30x was meh seemed mostly just upping watts is how they got desktop faster which doesn't help the laptops so much where this year was a good mixture of both not just upping wattage
Important to keep in mind: this is the BEST tier GPU from last year against the 2ND BEST GPU this year. The 4000 series seems more impressive when you recognize that there is still a 4090 that will also have a significant bump up in performance above the 4080. Thanks for your tests Jarrod! They rock!
At 10:57 you wonder if the VRAM is the limit, but I would guess you’re seeing a bigger gap at low because of the 13th gen CPU making the Blade 18 less CPU bottle necked at lower resolution, and because the Witcher 3 seems bugged at 4k for some reason. Maybe that’s the vram bottleneck? Though I doubt it?
Yeah that could be a factor for lower resolutions being better. I would have liked to have compared best vs the best, but as you probably know (I think you said you had an XMG laptop), we can't test their stuff due to a performance problem I found :( so waiting on replacement.
I waited so much for this!
Hi Jarrod! How good are MSI laptops compared to Lenovo laptops? I'm considering getting either the Legion 5 Pro with 3070 Ti, or the Pulse or Vector with 4070. They were priced closely last I checked...
Just one quick reminder: anyone using software like svp can confirm the tech behind DLSS3's framegen (nVidia's own Tensor Optical Flow) has been there since the first RTX GPUs, and denying 2000- and 3000-series users to even try it out performancewise is a big "no thank you" for me with this gen.
Then their new, overpriced cards would look even worse from a value and price per performance standpoint. Gotta sell those 2k 4090's somehow.
Can you give more info on this? If there is a way to prove it then it would be interesting to discuss.
@@JarrodsTech Try and get in touch with the SVP team, "NV Optical Flow" was added for RTX2000 and above years back, and though nvidia claims its "an improved version" used with 4000-series I feel they're withholding even trying to compare them on purpose.
@@JarrodsTech Should've begun with SVP being a toolkit to upsample framerates of video content 😇 sorry about that. There's a full 60fps-interpolated film with that tech over on my end, done in june 2021.
Same thing was with gsync monitors ! Nvida relased later driver that all monitors could use that technology 😂! That being said nvidia lie to us that this is hardware feature!
Thanks mate for providing the best content on gaming laptops
Thanks for this amazing video 😍
Awesome comparison!
Would love to see a comparison between the 4080 laptop GPU and a 3080 desktop GPU. I'm a content creator and looking to simplify my workspace and flexibility by potentially replacing my big desktop PC with a 3080ti by switching to one of these new 2023 laptops.
I've replaced desktop with asus m16 3070ti and it works great in davinci resolve
I might not specifically do that video, however after I am done testing all the 40 series laptop/desktop and retesting 30 series laptop/desktop to do some comparisons, I might do one big video comparing all of them in one which would have you covered.
@@JarrodsTech that would be awesome! Appreciate all your hard work on this, so many variables and data points to compare and contrast!! I assume we'll get to see an overall comparison between the mobile 4080 and 4090 as well soon? One big factor for me with 3D modeling and rendering is VRAM. I'm wondering if the 4090 mobile (which is priced SO much higher than the 4080) is worth the cost to get the additional 4GB of VRAM over the 4080.
would love to see a comparison between the 3080/3080ti and the 4060/4070

Yes the new gen has some improvements over 30 series but they still handicapped it with reduced bandwidth & VRAM on all the models.
This year's 4060 has worse bandwidth than even 1660ti.

Sell it and pay the difference if you care enough, that's what i'll be doing but i'm a power addict lol.

From what I saw there is like 50FPS more on 4080 vs 3060 and yeah I have 3060 too, which si kinda worth the upgrade
Do you have a 4090 v 4080 laptop benchmark comparison coming? Thanks for all the continual good content
I'd assume that you do the 25 games because you, like us, are detail oriented and want to provide the best accurate possible feedback possible which is only possible through exploring all of these options. Also, this data matters to me as you test specific games that I play which gives me a bench mark, with out making incorrect assumptions based on other frame rate performance. COD for example, has a fairly middle of the road performance vs fortnite for example, of which i play COD but not fortnite... Thanks for all the work and the tests and great videos!
I’ve been eyeing on the deal of the strix g16 with 13980hx and 4080 for $2499, I guess it’s time to pull the trigger! Coming from a 5-year old laptop with 1060 graphics so it will be an absolutely massive upgrade for me 😊
Lon way there’s a 4080 for 2,500$
will stick with my 3080, 165w for a while. When the 5 or 6 series come out, ill consider.
Another thing with your many games you test: It helps if you are interested in specific games as comparison. For example if I mostly play games like FS I can see, it doesn't make that much sense. And you might be able to detect some "weird behaviour". E.g. when in some games you expect it to run way better but it doesn't. Or the FSR 30 FPS thing.
Yes, it would also hurt my heart to have these hours of testing summerized in few seconds, but it is important. Thank you for that.
Ok I am happy I kept my 3070 ti Razer 14. Thank you for that advice on the other video! Excluding the FG the 4000 series has, the laptops are reaching acceptable levels for me for single player games as I don't play ultra settings usually.
Great comparison!! eagerly waiting for 4060 vs 3060 laptop comparison 😍
Me too!
That's a decent performance boost but the price discrepancy is going to be a factor between brands.
Alienware, Lenovo, Asus have 4080 models for $2400-2600. That's good price to performance compared to Razer and MSI, which have their 4080 laptops for like $1000 more dollars.
I realize Razer has the tax for their aesthetics, build quality, brand name, but that's a lot of extra $ for what amounts to the same performance as the cheaper options.
Well done. Thanks 👍🏼
Do you think it's a good idea to change my Helios 300(2019) with a new gaming laptop this year? It's still a good laptop but it is really noisy ( fan noise is annoying). I have the budget for a 2500 - 3000 $ laptop but if I buy then it means all of my savings go for a laptop. I need it for my work since I'm a student and I need a good CPU and I play game but I am really considering a laptop with less jet fan noise like the Helios 300.

Great review Jarrod.
I have a problem regarding RDR2 that I'm currently facing and I can't seem to find a fix.
While playing RDR2 I notice a constant stutter that occurs randomly that takes my average fps from 130~ to right down to 20. Another thing I noticed is that my CPU Utilisation is around 0-3%; is that fine?
I'm playing the game on DX12 (Would playing on Vulkan be better?) on a Asus Strix Scar 15 2022 running a 3080 Ti that I have undervolted.
Does capping the in-game FPS to 60, remove the stutters?
Try Vulkan
rtx 4080 laptops are actually considerably cheaper where I live than the 3080ti ones were at launch, or even now in a lot of cases.
25-30% uplift performance gen over gen isn't bad for me, wonder why Nvidia always advertise this gen with dlss3 enable, instead showing their improvement gen over gen which is still have good improvement.
@PC_Modder it might be smaller node but its also much smaller die, clearly they made compromises to save cost, while keeping price high
Because the prices are soaring and isn't justified with just a 25-30% uplift.
That's because they have insanely bumped up the price. So they need to justify that!
@@DeepteshLovesTECH what you said tbh. Prices are ridiculous
@PC_Modder There is always that one person out with a pitchfork without knowing the full picture.
Rtx 4080 laptop is an AD104 chip, not the AD103. A gen on gen comparison would be rtx 4090 vs rtx 3080ti (GA103S). There, the rtx 4090 laptop has blasted 3080ti with on an average close to 60% improvement gen on gen. Check hardware unboxed.
Nvidia has some of the best engineers out there and barring the greed of the corporate masters, there isn't much wrong with Ada Lovelace. It delivers above and beyond what it theoretically should. Phenemonal achievement.
Kinda hoped for more ram in the 4000series cards I still have a Notebook with a 1060 6GB and thought that the 4070 might get more ram than before but it still has 8GB with halth the memory bus of the 3070... seems like I still have to wait for the ti models next year or a 4080sale to maybe get more vram.
Liked the video, keep the good work on Jarrod.
12GB VRAM is enough for 1440p and 4K for now.
Hi Jarrod,
I have the Lenovo legion pro 7i 4080 - purchased Dead Space on steam, and my fans and temperatures are beyond 90C on the CPU, even though it’s only 20% utilised. And I’m only playing on 1440p high settings with DLSS balanced.
I’ve read that this game in particular runs high temps on CPUs. Just wondering what your experience was after seeing the benchmarks for Dead Space
The 4080 laptop gpu is roughly desktop 3090 power that’s insanely impressive considering it only uses 150 watts
DLSS with FG is insane. I'm so tempted to sell off my Z13 and grab one of the 40-series laptops... But I must resist as I just got myself a Steam Deck
I'd hold off until more games support it and are tested, although I do think it is good and looks fine, I'm not doing pixel by pixel comparison or anything like other channels
FG in my experience only works good when its being used at 100+ fps tbh. Any lower than that and the game a lot of the times ends up feeling better without FG at a lower frame rate because of the insane delay. My prime example is when I played Cyberpunk at 60FPS (capped by lowering gpu power) with FG on it felt about as awful as 30FPS and was for sure unplayable. I even turned off frame gen and it dropped to 25 fps but felt about the same. Frame gen is really awesome to get you from like 80 fps to like 100+, but its not that great at getting you from sub 60 fps to 60-70 fps.
Hi @JarrodsTech, hope you are well. Thanks for the awesome reviews, your time and effort are greatly appreciated. How do the laptop RTX 3080 (16GB vram version) compare with the laptop RTX 3080 TI? Also, do you think US$1400 for a second hand laptop with a RTX 3080 (16GB version) and ryzen 9 5900HX is a good deal? Thanks a lot.
It would be really interesting to see what Desktop GPU matches up to the Mobile 4090. Would we be looking at a 3080TI, or would that still outpace a 4090m?
Imagine what the 4090 laptop version is capable of
Hope it gets 60fps at 4k lol this is not really amazing.
@@MicaelAzevedo might be possible at medium/high setting but ultra will depend on the game and the fake frames I mean…..upscale method

@@HoodHussler 4080/4090 laptop will all be CPU-bound at 1080p (and still, who would buy it to play at 1080p?) and sometimes even at 1440p. You need 4K to maximize their power (4090 laptop is enough for most current AAA games at 4K 60fps ultra - no RT no upscaling).
The improvement is fine, I hope the prices will drop over time
Around 12 months as always, but don't expect massive cuts even then. These machines are entire desktop set ups with competitive performance, small enough to fit in a back pack.
Thanks so much for the Total War Warhammer benchmark, you are the best man!!!!

Jarrod what do you think I assume newer rtx 4070 is equally faster as 3070ti last gen.4608 vs 5632 cuda, that would be equal in gaming. right?
We'll find out when I compare them at the end of the month / early next month!
@@JarrodsTech Jarrod its a request, some times, when you compare last gen and new gen laptop, cpu clocks to be noted . some times they clock lower than before to make new laptop look good thats what i felt when you compared rtx 2060 vs 3060 .
Same CUDA numbers but much more powerful. Looks like you can't look at specs and expect it to perform similar or worst than the others. I knew ADA improves but never thought it would improve this big. Looks like it might be worth getting this generation over past if the prices are that similar.
When the reviews of RTX 4060 & 4050 are coming out?
Thank you 👍

Amazing testing. This made me realize that my 3080ti is still plenty fine for me right now and no reason to upgrade…yet. I’m waiting (might take a while) for a laptop that can play AAA titles at 1440 moderate settings with little to no fan noise. One day.
I feel good about this year I might just be able to afford a 2060 laptop✊
There batteries would be unusable 🌝
Are you testing with RT Overdrive or is it "just" RT Ultra but no path tracing?
Can u tell more about XMG Neo CPU issues? it was temp or software problem?
Although this Razer Blade 4080 is thicker and more powerful than last year's Razer laptops.... won't other laptops like Asus or Legion perform better with a 4080 than this especially with an even thicker chassis and cooling?
Nah, this razer blade 18 rtx 4080 is already 175 watt + mux switch. Expect same performance with different laptops.
@@Usernamehere263This may Thermal Throttle though..... laptop with thicker chassis is less likely to thermal throttle hence performing better...... also what would be the desktop equivalent of this??
@@P1X3L5L4Y3R @Ayaan l P1X3L even if the razer blade is thermal throttling, we would like see maybe 5 fps different at the most.
I think the desktop equivalent of this rtx 4080 is between 3070ti and 3080 but much closer to 3070ti
Honestly a pretty respectable performance increase 😮
and price increase? 🌚🌚
@@beataoo Prices are the same, it's RTX 4090 that is more expensive
@@Clero77 and is it worth it? Here in the UK the laptop I want doesn't come with 4090, I don't know what to do
@@suyini734 i think you should go for new generation laptop, a rtx 4060 would be recommended for 1000 euro maybe or a rtx 4050 laptop for 800 euro
@@beataoo but I always want to get the best 😭
What kind of GPU would u recommend for mid range?
Hey Jarrod!
Which laptop would you recommend? An Alienware m16 with a Ryzen 9 7000 Series and an RTX 4080 or a Razer blade 14 with a Ryzen 9 6900HX and a 3080ti?
i was right, the economy is no longer as before, the 4000 RTX laptops will blend in seamlessly with the old generation like the Desktop market, if you want the brand new stuff, you have to put the hefty price for it, the cheapest 4080/4090 laptop in France in preorder, cost no less the 5000 euros, that is preposterous, and also one thing to note, don't get fooled by the 4000 series moniker, the 4050/4060/4070 are not that impressive compared to last gen, at most 20 percent more performance the true performant ones, are the 4080 and the 4090 laptops, the 4080 mobile has 62 percent more CUDA cores than the 4070. it's just give an idea there is huge gap in performance
mmm, u can get some models like asus rog strix g16/18 with rtx4080 for 2500€
@@SoeZ- where is the link ? i want one
@@KaoukabiJaouad i cant send links here. But in amazon spain i see a rog strix g16 with 4080 for 2600€. With a discount in a few months should be a decent price
@@SoeZ- i understand to send a simple link nowadays you need 4080 card
@@KaoukabiJaouad ? U cant send link here, yt delete it 😅
As 4080 laptops are cheaper than what 3080 ti was at launch, I see this as an absolute win
💯
In India?
Woof. About time we got a Big Boost. But man the Prices are Out of Control
Whats up with the really low 1% lows Jarrod? Im really interested in these new blades but now im thinking if amds new high caches helps with those. Too bad they arent coming out until later :(. Good review like always! Keep it up 😊
Wow. The 4080 is definitely looking impressive. I definitely see it being a good seller.
The new features for dlss3 look good but not enough to make me upgrade. I think my rtx 3070 ti laptop will see me through to the 50 series laptops. Take it that's a scam below Jarrod lol
I think the whole thing is a moving target, I mean my gaming laptop i got recently (2020 legion 5 with rtx 2600m) was top class at release, barely 3 years ago! At a certain point one must decide how much for themselves is 'enough'...
Can’t wait for the 4070 vs 3070 ti video!!!!
Nvidia will claim 2x the performance from 3080 ti to 4080 (in a card that should have been the 4070). *eye roll*
