Dumb question… did you guys use a sealant for the water pump gaskets? Going to tackle this in the next couple of days… thanks for the vid!

Just the paper water pump gaskets! No sealant

83 C20 5.0L. Had same issue with power steering, just got your video. There is a unit under the alternator and the bracket is attached to the water pump. Alternator is off but
can't remove bracket to get to remove water pump. Any ideas?

Interesting. My alternator bracket came off super easily with just a couple bolts. I’d have to see pictures to see what could be the problem with yours. Feel free to message me on Instagram @mike_brandl to see if I can help you any more. I’m by no means an expert, just a shadetree mechanic trying to figure out these things as I go.

I got it off yesterday! Finally. It's called an Air Smog pump sitting directly under the alternator. Used a wheel puller to remove the belt pulley exposing the two 15mm bolt heads holding the pump. With the pump off the water pump extraction was a breeze. She's running great. You did an awesome job on your C10. The paint is classic. My C20 is white with 56K miles, not good for them to sit. Thanks for getting back with me. I too do the shade tree mechanic thing and enjoy every minute of it. Again, thanks.

@@SamStone-kv1td awesome! Yours must be a California truck with that smog pump. Super cool. Glad you were able to get yours back together! Thanks for the kind words

I have seen many of these reconstruction videos for these particular models. I have a 1987 trying to get it up and running again. My question is, why do yall take off the fan before the shroud? I e had to replace the water pump and radiator but only removed the top half of the shroud and then the fan. I don't mean any disrespect, just curious. Thanks as well, the video is very informative.

I think it all comes down to preference! I prefer taking out the shroud in one piece, and the fan is easy enough to pop off with the shroud still on.

@@Mike_Brandl Oh Ok, I also realized I posted prematurely. He had sprayed the bottom of the radiator with rust prevention paint which he couldn't have gotten to with the bottom half of shroud still there. That is a very good idea and will probably do that to mine too.
