I watched this video through once. Went back and made a note of the socket sizes, and the setting for the torque wrench. Then I gathered up my tools and went to work on my 98 Chevy C2500. Got the old one out in under an hour. Was losing light and had started out tired, so then I just couldn't get the second bolt started. Gave up, waited until the next day. Went out and took it back off, cleaned the bolts and gasket surfaces and put fresh ATV on, and in 40 minutes had it all back together. This was the BEST instructional video I've seen. No stupid music, no goofy effects, no extra yammering about unrelated. Good lighting, good views. I never needed to go back to refer to the video to see what to do next, because it all made sense the first time. Thank you so much, Midwest Garage!
100% did the exact same thing had to go buy a crescent and a hammer but got it done it what felt like no time just short of it being like 105 degrees outside
Yo bro you made this look super easy I got to change my water pump on Monday when I get the part. Thanks a lot I’ll refer to this video for my 96 Chevy tahoe
Thank you young man i'm 64 years old I watch your video & it did help me a lot to replace my water pump on my 1500 basic Chevy truck 96, thank you once again for making this video.
I'm not a person that works on trucks but since I have a 1994 k 1500 chevy blazer 5.7 and after watching your video I TRULY THANK I CAN FOLLOW THOSE DIRECTIONS, THANKS!
You just saved me ~$100, half of my Saturday, and prevented me from having to borrow a relative's car. Good camera work with good lighting, complete instructions - including identifying tools and supplies up front - and clear vocals. Thank you!
Great video. Concise and to the point. Water pump seems to be leaking 3 days after replacing radiator. LOL Now, I can R n R this too. just need it to stop raining.
New owner of a neglected 1997 K1500 5.7L Stepside. Water pump went out today. Great video. Appreciate your concise instruction and no BS filler talking. Subscribed.
Great video my lower radiator hose popped due to overheating and just didnt have the money to pay for a mechanic this helped me do the entire job im proud of myself thanks so much 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I have a 1995 - GMC Suburban 454 with only 50K miles, a gem! You answered my question right away! I had just changed a hose from the power brake assist to the steering reservoir, all sat, no leaks detected. Next morning I see a spot under the passenger side and scratch my head. Crawl under and see that it is coolant dripping along the bottom hose. I knew there must be a weep hole, but I didn't see it. I watched a couple videos and I think yours was the 3rd from the top. I am going to knock this out and find a hill where I can burb it and not worry about what comes out. I appreciate you, I subscribed and will check out your vids, Wado.
Thanks so much bro for this video!!!! I just replaced my water pump and will be back home in time for my daughter’s graduation in Florida!!! Leaving Mississippi This week!!!! Thanks so much!!!
Best video I've found. Period. Replacing my water pump on my 78 vette. It has a 350 crate engine. Only difference is it has an electric fan. I imagine the rest is pretty much the same though. Thanks again.
very well done video, i havent worked on one of these in aot of yrs and now it is my sons first truck. Nice to have the torque specs on water pump and other simple tricks. Kept it simple and to the point not trying to over analysis a fairly simple procedure. Well done!!
the best video I've watched on this replacement. Informative with sizes of bolts that other videos slack on and good camera angles showing the process. Good job bro
Great video, thanks. I like how u keep it simple and practical. For example, no need in buying a pricey strap wrench, instead use of a screwdriver. Your words are clear, easy to follow and have the necessary detail for those who aren't knowledgeable about everything mechanical and auto related. Well done, hope to see more but then again let's hope I don't have to as well😅. Ken in CO
Very helpful video, well miked, no extraneous noise, good lighting, easy to follow and understand, and no BS. Thanks so much! I will keep you in mind next time I have to work on my 93 C2500.
This video is a 10/10. It was very easy to follow step by step. Also does an amazing job of explaining how each part works together to make the water pump work correctly. I'll be subscribing, for future referencing to fix other issues that may arise. Thank you.
Thank you for this video, went step by step on my 1996 C1500 just this afternoon replacing both water pump and thermostat. Hadn't wrenched much since spinal surgery 5yrs ago. This made my job that much easier
Great video. One thing that I would do, is replace that top idler as soon as it shows any play. I was on I-25, in the middle of nowhere between Pueblo and Colorado Springs when mine came apart. Incredibly there was a ranch exit and I got off the freeway, because as you can imagine, the engine was dead and no power steering, nothing. Someone brought me a new unit. So now, I carry a spare bearing and as well, an entire unit I can screw on. That happened at about 50,000, and now I have almost 300,000 on the truck, and it's never happened again. Of course.
Excellent video, sir! Quick, to the point and including exactly what tools you use along with sizes is extremely helpful. No music, no BS . . . this is well done sir and I appreciate it. I subscribed and I hope that helps you out to keep doing what you're doing. I'd buy you a case of beer if I knew where to send it. LOL . . . thank you.
What size torque wrench should I buy for this job? A 1/2 or 3/8 torque wrench. And does anyone have any suggestions for what brand is best at an affordable price?
I love your videos man, you take the time to explain stuff and having the captions of your explanation at the bottom helps a lot too. Keep it up dude! You just gained a new subscriber!
Hi MWG I’m looking for a video of replacing a thermostat you’ve done! Do you have one? I know ppl say it’s easy but I’m doing this by myself & yes a women, I’ve only got interested in repair the last few years (wished I’d done this years ago) lol. Thanks and I love your vids b/c you make it seem simple and I can understand you--you have the voice for this. Thanks again ✌🏼
Wow !! you are so good explaining, thank you for sharing that video.First time I will change water Pump on my 1989 Blazer with a 145,000 mile that I have it for 32 years.
Thanks for the help. I noticed you put in something to protect the radiator and good heavy cardboard will work if you don't have wood. I don't know if you check in here but the wiper circuit board vid is how I found you. I know the links get you a little kick back but I couldn't find one. Keeping old trucks running is a good thing. Hope you are doing well, Rich in Oregon
Thanks my guy. I really appreciate it. I recently bought a 00 obs tahoe z71 and the radiator cracked. I was going thru everything and figured that if I’m replacing half the cooling system I might as well just replace all of it. I bought the chilton manual but for fucks sake they make everything so freaking ambiguous in there. They don’t tell you what the RTV is for.. you did (the bolts - not knowing that or why the bolts would’ve been wet and this being my first 5.7 I would’ve shit my pants thinking something was fucked), the screwdriver tip for the 4 bolts, etc. like dude. That was insanely clutch information that seriously saved my ass. You’re the man my dude. Seriously!
Tell us how much time it takes cause I did it and it work but it took hours something that I didn't see in you tube video but for anything else thank you because I was gonna be charge 500 dollars right on Christmas season those 500 dollars was gonna be for mechanics Christmas presents but thank for your talent I saved 500 for my Christmas family thank you
Great video! Very informative and I didn't feel like you were trying to rush through the steps. I installed a new thermostat and radiator in my 95 5.7 but it is still over heating. Tried flushing with water but truck was sitting so long that sediment back out of heater core. Drove for 5 minutes and was almost to the red on temperature. No coolant on passenger floor but coolant is circulating. Do you think it's a bad heater core or a bad water pump?
That was a great video wonderful to the point and you really know what you’re doing. I have a 1998 Chevy van and I just replace the water hose on the bottom thinking it was leaking well it wasn’t. It was the water pump so now I have to do what you did this Ohta be interesting but I think I can do it now, and I have enough tools I do refrigeration and air conditioning. Thank you very much for the videos.
Well done! About to do my 1994 Silverado 2500 5.7 after seeing the drips from the weep hole. May as well do belt and tensioner pulley it seems. Have you ever done valve cover gaskets, new oil pan/gasket, and filter adapter(maybe just O ring)? Getting leaks around these things, may be time.
Hopefully you'll see this Great video am about to replace mine in my 92 k1500. Am having trouble finding this water pump, the 92 pump doesn't come with the two hose bungs what part number is this can anyone help
THANK YOU BUDDY, IT WAS AN INTERESTING AND EDUCATIONAL VIDEO, I WILL PROCEED TO DO THE REPLACEMENT OF THE WATER PUMP IN MY GMC VANDURA, THANKS AGAIN AND HAVE AN EXCELLENT DAY !!!
Nice video for a 95 to 99. 94 5.7 has a different water pump with a single "small hose" fitting on the top instead of two. The weep hole has nothing to do with oil circulation, any oil mixing with coolant is done with a problem inside to motor. Nice instructional video though as I'm working on my 99 Suburban and have a 94 Silverado for a parts truck. The water pumps are not the same.
Awesome video, sir. I am not mechanically declined, but I am not a mechanic. You've done a fabulous job here; my pump is weeping. That's why I subscribed. I ain't got much time before I must change it out, so I gotta ask ya...do I need any kinda rigid tubing on the top of the pump for the other hoses?
Hey man I have a 94 k1500 that’s been sitting about 3 years with a bad water pump. Vehicle won’t stay running under weight or at idle. Would water pump and coolant temp sensor cause it to die?

Superbly done, not your typical watching someone who doesn't explain what he or she is doing. TY and keep up the great work!
Yo bro you made this look super easy I got to change my water pump on Monday when I get the part. Thanks a lot I’ll refer to this video for my 96 Chevy tahoe

I can't thank you enough for this video. Did my water pump yesterday and it wasn't that hard of a job. 👍
I'm not a person that works on trucks but since I have a 1994 k 1500 chevy blazer 5.7 and after watching your video I TRULY THANK I CAN FOLLOW THOSE DIRECTIONS, THANKS!

Thank you for detailing each step, most helpful!👍
One of the better vids out there for sure. Nice job walking through the process with great tips and explanations. Thank you!
Well done tutorial....good tip on removing idler pulley....makes it much easier to access hose.
Great video.

Thanks! I just replaced mine using this video.
Very comprehensive and step by step perfection
Nice job. Straight to the point and nice camera work. I'll get it changed soon. Thanks.

What kind of sealer for the bolts rtv what brand?

Excellent . Easy to understand and covers all ,

Never mind, I see my mistake after viewing this again. Thank you.
I just installed this water pump in my '71 F250 4x4
How long do you wait before you add the new coolant.
Great video . Easy to follow , thank you .
Blessings, what size is that wrench you used on the fan?
You answerd my question yes drain your fluids if you're doing your water pump
I changed mine today and the hoses are bent in the middle. How do you get your hoses to line up so they don't fold in half?
Good job men well explain!! Thanks keep it up the good vibes
Hey man I have a 94 k1500 that’s been sitting about 3 years with a bad water pump. Vehicle won’t stay running under weight or at idle. Would water pump and coolant temp sensor cause it to die?
Straight to the point, cool
Pasaste por alto que la bomba instalada no es igual a la anterior.
El block tiene un tercer hueco del lado izquierdo y la bomba instalada no cubría ese lugar.
