  • Over the Fall of 2020 through the Spring of 2021 I produced the most ambitious work of my career to date, Carving Out Time. Through this monumental wood carving I give the viewer a glimpse into my life as a mother and practicing artist. Take a look this video to learn more about the inspiration behind the work and the process of creating it.

Had a chance to visit Latoya's studio a few years ago. She is an AMAZING artist and a wonderful human being. Her art reminds me of Elizabeth Catlett and Charles White....which is to say it's pretty darn good!! I was VERY fortunate to acquire a work of hers for my art collection. If you have a desire to acquire one of her smaller prints or paintings, I would highly recommend that you reach out to her directly before she gets scooped up by a big NYC gallery (which will eventually happen). I firmly believe she's going to be a future MacArthur Awardee. I hope she continues to produce amazing works for her audience as I am forever a fan and admirer of her work.

I can see the amount of work going into each panel, but the result is worth it.
Love the idea of using the carved panel as a work of art in it’s own right.

AMAZING CRAFTSMANSHIP AND ARTICULATED EXPRESSION OF LIFE AND FAMILY FROM A FEMALE PERSPECTIVE WHICH IS WHY THE INCLUSION OF THE FAMILY IS THAT MUCH MORE DEFINED IN THE WORK.🤱🏾 THIS CAN ONLY BE CREATED BY A WOMAN'S UNDERSTANDING OF SELF. 👑

    WOW!
    BLACKNIFICENT!
This is my first time coming across this Sistah artist-printmaker!
I'm really impressed and soooo glad her partner convinced her to print the gigantic panels!
LaToya should check out the large scale bass relief carvings and prints of Nigerian artist Christopher Adejumo. He recently passed - he was known for his carved wood cut panels 4-6' h x 6'-9l over the past 30'years...
Lil Sis I tip my artist gelé to you.

This is very dope fine art. I’m inspired. I love how meticulous your process is. In hindsight, I’ve rushed every painting lol. I’m going to borrow a bit of your style as far as work ethic. I need to compose my compositions more carefully. Thank you 🙏🏾

LaToya, your art is beautiful and inspiring! I have been self learning linocut and woodcut printmaking for several years now and would like to ask what wood you are using? I am wanting to make large format prints and would love your advice!
Thank you for your amazing video!
