- Over the Fall of 2020 through the Spring of 2021 I produced the most ambitious work of my career to date, Carving Out Time. Through this monumental wood carving I give the viewer a glimpse into my life as a mother and practicing artist. Had a chance to visit Latoya's studio a few years ago. She is an AMAZING artist and a wonderful human being. Her art reminds me of Elizabeth Catlett and Charles White....which is to say it's pretty darn good!! I was VERY fortunate to acquire a work of hers for my art collection. If you have a desire to acquire one of her smaller prints or paintings, I would highly recommend that you reach out to her directly before she gets scooped up by a big NYC gallery (which will eventually happen). I firmly believe she's going to be a future MacArthur Awardee. I hope she continues to produce amazing works for her audience as I am forever a fan and admirer of her work.

I can see the amount of work going into each panel, but the result is worth it.
Love the idea of using the carved panel as a work of art in it’s own right.

LaToya should check out the large scale bass relief carvings and prints of Nigerian artist Christopher Adejumo. He recently passed - he was known for his carved wood cut panels 4-6' h x 6'-9l over the past 30'years...
