I’m 72 and for all my young years it was a Railway Station, in recent years I’ve noticed it’s usually referred to as a Train Station, so I reluctantly go along with this and call it a Train Station, but to me it will always be a Railway Station.

Another lovely way to see London without the bustle and Tube system is the Thames Clipper. Get an all day hop on/hop off ticket or a simple return from the London Eye to Greenwich. Grab a coffee and watch the world go by from a very different perspective. Love watching you guys.

From the rooftop of the block of flats that I lived in, before the advent of Sky Scrappers, I could see, Left to Right, Big Ben (and hear the Bell), Shell Mex building, Waterloo Station, Royal Festival Hall (we used the Embankment as a playground as pre-teens) GPO TOWER at 11:50 , thin pinnacle just off center, (and saw the left side, west, get blown out by a bomb just after 4am in 1971), OXO Tower, now a restaurant, St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge!
    This was my playground!
The view of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament from Westminster Bridge, was the view my wife had, from the Maternity Ward of St Thomas's Hospital, where she gave birth to our two eldest kids!
The underground, pronounced ChOOB not tOOb..

I’m a native Londoner born bred and never left and you’ve even made me want to visit London -no mean feat when you find out i live next door to tower bridge 😂 you could sell snow to eskimos - maybe it’s your beautiful calm voice and stunning footage.
I’ll miss your videos when you go home so please do document your life after England - and you must return at lest once a year every year until you come back indefinitely when you retire 😜❤️

The wheel of the London Eye has very clever mechanisms that keep the floor of each pod horizontal as the wheel revolves. When it was first built and it was being tested before being opened to the public these mechanisms didn't all work. As the wheel revolved the pod floor kept tilting more and more from the horizontal. I'm not sure if some even became inverted. Can't help thinking that would've been a far more fun experience than everyone just stood vertical!

If you had said that you was going to London people would of told you that there are about 6-7 roof top viewing areas that are free ( including Sky Garden in the Shard and the Tate ) but as normal you must book early spots to miss the queues ( if you book breakfast at the Sky Garden you get in a hour early and of course get the pick of seats )

Gorgeous pictures, the building you can see as the eye was taking you upward, 3 massive glass arches over Charing Cross Station & Hungerford Bridge was my younger daughter's place of work for 20 plus years from leaving university. One day her flatmate, Gemma was treating her mum & dad to the Eye & Gemma asked Jill if she could see folk on the Eye, she said yes...not explaining they were tiny & sometimes, if the sun shone on the glass they couldn't see them at all. Well, that morning she took a call from Gemma saying they were all together in the cabin, just raising up & could she see them, Jill for a joke said, are you wearing your red coat (a guess) Yes I am says Gemma & now we're all jumping up and down & waving . Jill was crying with laughter by this time . Anyway, she told Gemma that night she was kidding but, every time I see the Eye I have to laugh 😂😅🎉

You can get VIP tickets for the London Eye so you walk straight on without having to queue. I have done it before. 'One' of the best markets in London is Portobello Road, especially at the weekend with its antiques market. Along the street is a clothes store and inside there are thousands of Singer Sewing Machines lining the walls! And don't miss the street 'statues' that come to life! Jump scares!!

13:51 the building with the curved front close to the eye is the old greater London council building. The GLC ran from 1965 until 1986 when it was dissolved by Margaret Thatcher (the prime minister of the time)'s government. The last leader of the GLC was Ken Livingstone, who, in 2000, was elected as the first mayor of London (not the City of London, they're different places and have had mayors for thousands of years) - Ken began his first session with the words "Now, as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted..."

Firstly, I love that you 'braved' London, after living in a quiet hamlet, outside of a quiet village, miles from a quiet town etc...
London is soooooooo big.. that you NEED to go to Richmond, Barnes, Sheen, Chiswick, Ealing, Brook Green, Hampstead, Notting Hill, Wimbledon, Muswell Hill, Greenwich, Dulwich etc,etc.. before you decide what you think of it.
I am so confident with this, because; I have lived in the following: NYC, North Carolina, Melbourne, Dubai and Singapore ( have also visited over 60 cities, across the globe. NOT bragging but just setting a prefix.. I have seen a few places during my travels!!)
LET ME TELL YOU A TRUTH... London is essentially, 107 villages/49 towns.. and now set as 32 boroughs.
AVOID the Borough of Westminster and Tower Hamlets, which is where you went.. ergo ZONE 1, at all costs!!
Visit the 'outer boroughs of zone 2-5.... they are cute, quaint and quiet!! They have a wider range of architecture than Norfolk and Suffolk.. and that is a fact! Medieval, Georgian, Edwardian, Victorian, Brutalist, and so forth...
Plus, they often offer a tighter and more 'diverse' community, with churches, village greens, various canals/rivers, woodlands/wlaking trails and WAY better high streets etc. NOT what you think London is, but in reality.. when you leave the tourist 'BS', it is... (But shhhh, we dont often want tourists to know this, nor other UK folk.. just let them believe it is a concrete soulless jungle, like NYC. LOL)

Interesting day trip, everyone Will advise where best to go. It’s hob-sons choice really so choose your own places. On the underground I would set up credit or debit card payments, that way you don’t have to mess around with the oyster. But you were with your family so oyster maybe the best option. Book London Eye in advance and get a priority ticket. It avoids the Crush.Mother’s Day well I would have bought you the Champaign trip. Lovely day out heart warming video

I hope you have some rail cards to get cheaper fairs on the train. Also good if the Children want to go alone into Ely or Cambridge.
With a family I would also consider driving part way to London, as the fuel maybe cheaper than the train. But it is more work for the driver especially if you have a long day in London.
As a tourist in London you should consider taking the ordinary buses. They are at most half as fast as the tube but you get to see stuff.
Parliament Hill is a good place for a picnic when the weather is good. You will not see the people as ants but you can see the central London skyline. It is also a short walk to Camden market

@@DaydreamersBarn Oyster cards only apply around London. There are separate cards on national Rail that give discounts on some journeys. I think a family rail card, at least one adult and child traveling together saves 30% and the 16-17 year card saves 50% I think. You pay about £30 for the cards but if you do a few reasonably long journeys then you are in profit.
