- Newly released bodycam footage shows former Mesa police officer Philip Brailsford shoot and kill unarmed Daniel Shaver at a hotel in Arizona. Brailsford says he shot Shaver after he reached for his waistband and was acquitted of murder charges.

But here is the worst part, he applied for disability because of the PTSD he got from this shooting. “Brailsford was unanimously approved to be retired on medical grounds. I had trouble with the law and was caught in a stolen car when i was younger and in a felony stop like that in Florida the cops guns come out.

My critique is the laundry list of demands prior to him reaching near his waste (for what I assume is to pull up his pants, but I understand the officer wouldn’t know that). He complied for many minutes and obeyed many commands before he slipped up. Keep in mind the victim was obviously intoxicated at the moment. The young officer was clearly on a power trip, looking for any excuse for live-fire. Plus, the initial call in was for possession of a long gun (not a crime). There’s no way he was concealing a long gun. I understand he could’ve also had a handgun.. but that’s not an excuse for this type of behavior. We as Americans have the right to bare arms, and to be treated this way by police because someone called in and informed the officer he was practicing his 2nd Amendment Right is disgusting. By the letter of the law, yes, he was justified in shooting. The problem i have is all the different instructions they gave him. Right before they asked him to crawl they told him to raise his hands in the air and if he was going to fall to fall flat on his face not to drop his hands. Then they asked him to crawl which means he has to now lower his hands to the ground. Their instructions set him up for failure.
Also, I don't believe it is physically possible for most people to go from laying down to kneeling while you have you hands in the air and legs crossed over each other. I certainly can't do it.

I worked in law enforcement for 5 years and have a brother and cousin in the police force, but I have to say this incident is equivalent to cold blooded murder. The use of deadly force is justified only when a person clearly shows he has the intention, the opportunity, and the means to do bodily harm to someone. All three elements are necessary. The victim clearly did not have any of the three elements. The cop was obviously looking to justify shooting an unarmed and harmless man. This was intentional and completely criminal. Finding this criminal cop not guilty is a total disgrace for the justice system by those responsible for his acquittal. This unjustified, senseless, and irresponsible acquittal made them all accomplices to the crime. This criminal cop and the individuals who acquitted him have certainly disgraced the police force and placed another huge stain in their reputation. I certainly hope that justice finds all of them. I did not know of this crime until now. It must never be forgotten.
Not to mention it makes the jobs of the truly good cops like your brother and cousin that much harder because the trust between the public and the police gets seriously damaged by incidents like this

In short, the guy pointed a pellet gun out of window and then was executed by the police for not being a dance dance revolution expert. Later the dangerous cop with real gun and other incidents of excessive force usage was found not guilty because murdering people is okay to do in Arizona, if you are a cop.

Here is the full story, Mesa police were called to a hotel after someone seeing what looked like a rifle (it was a pellet, but they not the officers knew that) so they came in armed. Now Daniel was really drunk at the time like really drunk, but this is not defending anyone. The female in the room was ordered out and was told to do exactly what Daniel was told to do (this is were the drunkenness comes in). The female was detained successfully without issue, Daniel drunk, scared, and with adrenaline pumping through his blood had issues following orders. Whilst he was unarmed Mesa PD had no way of knowing this. He followed orders the best he could while being ridiculously drunk, some think he was reaching to pull up his pants as he was crawling and was shot because of specualtion that he was armed.
The reason the officer who shot was fired was because he had a "YOURE FUCKED" sticker on the underside of his dust cover. The murder charges were dropped. Daniel did his best to follow orders but was too drunk to do so, this ended fatally. This is unbiased and you should take this into account before forming your own opinion.

William Hatta This information is well known and all it takes is 5 minutes of research and a little critical thinking. Police carry batons, tasers, pepper spray, and their service pistol. Most officers also carry a shotgun and/or rifle in their police car as well. Batons, tasers, and pepper spray are all non lethal. Guns are lethal. In the police academy, you learn to match the other person’s level of force. If the guy wants to punch me, I will tase him, pepper spray him, or hit him with my baton. If the person has a lethal weapon, ie. a gun, a knife, a bat/club, an axe, etc. Police will use one of their guns. Also training says that if you are at the point in a situation where you need to fire your gun at somebody, you aim for the chest and you keep firing until there is no way they’re still alive because the intention is to kill them. Police don’t shoot people in the knee lol. Police don’t pepper spray people in the pinky either. People that think police will ever or should have to ever shoot somebody in a limb as to not kill them fundamentally have no understanding whatsoever of how policing works. Also how can you possibly place blame on the police for Shaver’s drunkenness? Being drunk is not a get out of jail free card whenever you commit a crime, it actually significantly raises the danger level of the situation for all people involved. Your 3 sentence long comment showed me and everybody else who reads it that you don’t have even the most basic understanding of this subject.

He wasn't lying face down on the ground anyway he was reaching for his waist. If a presumably armed suspect reaches for his waist, it's possible he could be reaching for a gun.
