I was allowed to bring them both in to the care home were I live they brought so mutch joy to the other residents always coming back to my bed at night and showing up for food throught the day they loved all the attention. Love the stairs. You could make a living house building anytime.best regards Michael uk care home resident xx

    You can hide the top corner of the treads on the staircase with a tall enough bottom molding for the rails.

    Thanks for sharing Keira watering the flowers on Kenji's grave. Beautiful. You all have the stairs in. Good job Jeremy!

  • @DKBarie
    @DKBarie 7 месяцев назад

    A few suggestions:
    You could raise the height of the stair caps (to hide the ends of the treads) by adding 2x2s, or better yet, a half round on top. If you can't find any the right dimension, you can make your own by cutting dowels in half lengthwise on the table saw (use feather boards for safety and consistency.)
    Consider using black pipe & fittings for a handrail(s), for a cheap, sturdy and rustic/industrial look.
    Consider adding 3M non-slip tape strips to the front edges of the treads for safety.
    And lastly, off the topic of the stairs - I'm assuming you intend to get another pupper. Consider making the outdoor space between the house and the garage (from the back wall to the connection wall) a dog run. Install a pet door in the center of the rear connection wall, and a gate across the back gap for access. Install a geo-textile barrier on the sub-grade, under a layer of sand and/or stone, for a weed barrier and for easier clean-up. Perhaps a small motion sensing light on the connection wall too. Think you would appreciate this feature during those cold winter months.
    Cheers, and keep up the good work!

    As a fellow North Idahoan homesteader, I wanted to say, great job on a solidly built star system. I was glad to see you cut one stringer and use it as a pattern for the other 3. Couple little touches. To help “hide” the treads from view looking at them from the side, add a 2x on top of the shirt board. ( normally we start with a 2x6 nailed into the wall and post on the bottom of the outside stringers. Then set a 1x12 on top of that to cover the front of the steps.” Because you didn’t glue your treads down, I would also screw the bottom of the risers into the treads in between the each of the center 2 stringers. This will help with “squeaking “ as you walk on the stars.

    Place a 2x4 on top of the outside stare stringers to cap off the treads. Add 4 screws through the riser into the back edge of the steps plus caulk all corners will prevent fine dirt from working though to what ever you place under the steps. Found it worth the time with the four set of steps I have built.

    I would recommend you go under the stair and put 4 nails into the back of each tread where they butt into the riser. It will keep the treads from sagging. I would also recommend you use construction adhesive in addition to nails. You are smart to have made the stairs wider like you did. This will mean that moving furniture and appliances up will be a lot easier.

    The stairs look great and very sturdy with the addition of the end caps. For now, you may want to place a piece of old carpet or an old throw rug onto the top step so someone doesn't trip on the top step and try to do a Superman-like trick and fly down the steps face first. That couldn't end well regardless of how athletic they might be. Personally, I don't mind seeing the end of treads as anyone should be able to tell their stairs. Thanks for adding the moments with Kenji and how you remember him with flowers and such.

    From a builder, great job on the stairs. One thing that I would recommend if you ever build any more is a jigsaw or a sawzall instead of hand selling them. It will be faster.

    The stairs look awesome. Now you can get the finishing done with ease. Are you looking at getting a puppy? 😊
