I love how you solve problems. From working alone to the foresight of installing the conduit in the concrete slab. And then the punch line at the end with the brolly😂. A thoroughly enjoyable watch on a sunday morning. 👌🏻
Tip for working at low heights for an extended period: use a platform. You can use more than one, or use some boards to extend between two. Massive reduction in going up and down. Your knees will thank you by louvre 3.
Extending the patio makes it aesthetically seamless with the house, like it was meant to be there. As always, an attention to detail with no corners being cut, a great job! Just as admirable is doing the whole job by yourself, when 1 or 2 extra pairs of hands would've made life much easier!
I had to rewind a few times when you said "The Range" and "£2000"! I didn't even know they sold anything in that price range. Nearly spat my tea out, although based on some comments it seems like good value. Another great video
This is spot on man, I'm pretty sure my mother ordered the same one which comes mid June which she wants me to put up. She has the heaters and all that stuff too, this vid will help alot cheers.
Great video! For anyone reading this, remember to check local codes before you do something similar. In some areas, as soon as a "building" is technically "attached" to the house, it may suddenly require a building permit from the city.
That suits the house really well and it's a good price too. I erected a wooden 3x3m Gazeebo a couple of years ago and it cost £1500 and a lot more work. The only thing that would stop me fitting one like that would be the racket when it rains, Like a tin roof and the worry of the mechanism failing due to water ingress over time.
He was at the NEC Birmingham last weekend. He even chaired a very interesting QandA session with a group of other RUclips makers. I will also just add. If you think he’s a nice guy with a good sense of humour in these videos, wait till you meet him IRL at one of these shows. He’s a perfect gent and the humour is totally natural. Didn’t even mind when I asked what some people might think is a personal question. Top bloke and his wife and daughter are lovely too. I now wear my PD cap with pride when I have a nice well earned (sometimes) cuppa in my PD mug.👍
Came across this video by accident but what a find. Very clear, well thought through. I have a similar 3x3 pergola & put it together single handed too, had similar approach to you but some of your gadgets would have made it easier for me. I’ve not committed to bolting mine down yet but strongly recommend, these aluminium frames are so light, mine is currently held down by piles of block paving on each leg (not the best look) and I’ve never noticed before how often we have such strong winds. Plan to bolt down like yours but I would also recommend attaching to the house like you did (not possible for my situation), in high winds there is a fair bit of flex (and creaking) on the corner joints. Really useful video for anyone considering similar.
I really enjoy all of your vids Stuart, but this one was most enjoyable. Its great how you really think outside the box so to speak to achieve your goal, like the extra slabbing stones and attaching the pergola to the house. It looks great too.
Good addition to the property. Great vid as always. Particularly so, as you’ve answered exactly the very question I had in mind on how to secure pergola posts effectively to concrete patio for the pergola I am about to assemble. Marvellous timing.
Hi Stuart it was good to meet ya last week at Makers Central we had a quick chat about the secure door from lathems that you fitted and you gave me one of your Ive met DP Badges enjoy your sunday and keep the videos coming.
The powder coated aluminium looks great Stuart…. And zero maintenance 😃. I used a very similar system to build a 5m x 3m carport on the side of the house…. You definitely need a helper! Loving your drone videography …. adds a superb professional edge to your vid…. Brilliant 👍👍
Excellent as always Stuart , I feel your pain as I’m a tradesman and always work alone which can be a lot harder with many jobs 👍 I used your method to revitalise my lawn, cut, scarify, re-seed and a layer of multi purpose compost the day after I saw your video. My lawn already looks far better than it has for five years, thank you. Also ridiculous as it sounds I’d already planned to build a modern pagoda ( though from scratch with timber ) I love how you put in the extra effort to improve the products you use and your forward thinking. Thank you Stuart, love your channel’s 👍👍
Fantastic job Stuart! We’re looking to extend our current patio a bit and put up a pergola, and got quoted £7k just for the patio 🤦♂️, these videos definitely help and we’re hoping to do it by ourselves! 💪
You created a fantastic light source with the glass doors, now you have a wonderful outside space with the instant pergola but it will be dark now in your dining room.
Well done Stuart for an exceptionally creative video. Great choice of music and of course it wouldn’t be you without the humour. I guess this is what you’ve been up to for the last 2 weeks. All in all a big project. Loved it.
Only recently discovered your channel, and have found it really useful! Thank you for the videos and for explaining things in plain English! Those little wheel dollies look really handy!!
brilliant, loved the fabricated chock to fix to structure, i use resin anchors but will try those metal sleeved ones as looked really simple with the wrench
Very nice Stuart, now pour yourself a nice drink and enjoy the summer, not forgetting to make some more great videos of course ! I built a wooden one 4.8 x 2.4, about ten years ago, I still like it apart from when I need to repaint it all, which is now for the fourth time !
Quality video as usual. Literally just taken delivery this morning of a 3x3m titan pergola which I’m looking forward to building next weekend. Great job.
Hi Stuart, it was great to meet you at Makers Central. I've got the badge in pride of place on my tool belt. I'm looking forward to seeing that vid on work trousers. 👍🏻
It's a fantastic looking job there I'm thinking of changing my mind from timber pergola to aluminum one now timber in Ireland is so expensive and quality isn't in timber anymore so thanks great video
That's a lovely pergola , always wondered how they put those things up, well done on a brilliant job, really suits your house ,thanks for another interesting ,informative video ❤️
My wife has bought a pergola , and I said to her, is it higher than the outward opening French doors, she said WHAT no idea, so I did laugh when you mentioned that,
Haha brilliant. I'm looking for getting one but made of wood and those insulating plastic boards. They let trough some light and don't let trough rain so I can also use it in winter to barbeque.
You might need to insulate the aluminum and galvanized bracket so so don’t get galvanic corrosion especially in high humidity. Also in England do you guys ever use some sort of flashing or waterproofing between the wood connectors and your home? Water would seem to get behind that wood and cause damage. Loved the video and I thought the pergola with opening Louvers was really neat!!
Wow! You are so gifted at DIY. Love watching you. I fancy one of these myself but 3x3M and it won’t be attached to any side wall. I assume 4 bolts in each leg will keep it sturdy.
That's what you call a proper job. Those ladders were a bit wobbly though! I'm sure you you get a load of freebies from some ladder manufacturers. A ladder comparison video would be really useful for a lot of people.
I once was employed by a shop that sold these. We would repeated tell customers they must be secured down very well and that we would not replace any pergola that was damaged from wind. Invariably, once or twice a season someone would show up with a pile of wreckage looking for a refund. Customers would buy them for a party, throw them together and put them in their garden, and forget about them until they flew into their neighbor's window.
Watching the early part of the video I was thinking; Stuart lives in England. How come it always seems to be sunny there. Turns out by the end of the video I got my answer. 😂😂
I’ve been hoping you’d do a pergola build for ages Stuart. It fits so well with the house, it looks like it’s always been there. As others have said, you always do a great job of solving problems which is very helpful to see as when I’ve completed a RUclips inspired project, there’s always at least one issue to deal with which the RUclipsr cannot possibly predict because every house/situation is different. DIY certainly builds one’s problem-solving skills and subsequently confidence levels which is one of the reasons I enjoy it so much. Another fab video, 🙂
If you do need a bit of extra height, put it on staddle stones or concrete piers. I think a nice oak frame would go quite nicely with that house design. Adds some warmth.
This looks absolutely amazing! I love how you always explain challenges and how to tackle them. Can I ask, is there now a gap between the patio doors and the pergola?
This guys attention to detail is top notch h. No corners cut and pride taken in the work. Well done that man
A perfect example of how a great idea always seems to turn into a much bigger job than first anticipated. Nice one Stuart.
And the other half will always think you are dragging your feet
Forgot to mention my 2 puppy spaniels next to me as well 😂 Sunday bliss 😊
@@shadowdugify 😂Yep, & just try getter the other half to lend a hand! No chance.
I love how you solve problems. From working alone to the foresight of installing the conduit in the concrete slab. And then the punch line at the end with the brolly😂.
A thoroughly enjoyable watch on a sunday morning. 👌🏻
Stu - I loved that transition of the drone plan view to the printed out piece of paper - superb editing!
Sunday morning, tea, freshly made sausage and egg rolls, wife still asleep in bed, feet up and sharing some me time with my fav DIY’er 😊 👍
Couldn't of said it better 👌
Haha must be a theme here, wife in bed while im up sitting drinking coffee, dogs on the sofa asleep next to me........bliss AND peace haha
Cheese on toast and a coke zero for me. The breakfast of kings !
Fish finger sarnies here. 👌
Ha ha love this!

Interesting. I'm thinking of building a pergola on my patio and thought the Aluminium one seemed expensive, but maybe not
You can’t beat sitting in the garden on a Sunday morning with a coffee and a new proper diy video. Missed you last two weeks. Holiday???
He was at the Makers Fair last weekend, with a few other great YT personalities.
He was at the NEC Birmingham last weekend. He even chaired a very interesting QandA session with a group of other RUclips makers.

Great Video! Loved how you explained the issues you had to solve.
Oh Stuart! I love the efforts you go to to provide us with Sunday morning vids. Thank you!!
Your comments always makes me smile 😄. Great video and loads of tips. Cheers
Absolutely superb job. You attention to detail and planning really are very impressive.
You did well doing the job on your own Stuart, looks really smart.👍👍
Looks very neat. Great job. Brilliant snippets of advice too. Love it.
Thanks again for sharing a great example of quality workmanship. A pleasure to see 😊
I’m just weighing up doing this exact job at the moment, so this guide was very helpful!
Bravo! Excellent DIY video. I especially liked your choice of music.
Good addition to the property. Great vid as always. Particularly so, as you’ve answered exactly the very question I had in mind on how to secure pergola posts effectively to concrete patio for the pergola I am about to assemble. Marvellous timing.
We also have the pull down blind on one side which is great for blocking sunlight out when it's needed.

Wow, great job, My nephew Iand I was just looking at that at the range in enfield, great value, and now I see it is good quality too. Thank
Looks great - it's not just any old pergola - it's a brise-soleil !
I am buying mine after watching this. Thank you this helpful video
You make it look easy Stuart. Great job and the colour is great against the house.
Fantastic job Stuart! We’re looking to extend our current patio a bit and put up a pergola, and got quoted £7k just for the patio 🤦♂️, these videos definitely help and we’re hoping to do it by ourselves! 💪
Perfect time / day to release a vid . Nice job and very professional production Stuart 👏
Just so good. Clever solutions to small blockers and workarounds to enhance the quality of the job always.
I just love your channel which is full of helpful advice and terrific humour thrown in as well! Thank you
You created a fantastic light source with the glass doors, now you have a wonderful outside space with the instant pergola but it will be dark now in your dining room.
I think the roof has a louvred top which opens.
And for his next video .......how to add extra lighting in your dining room
I'm not building a pergola but your video's are addictive. I just watched the whole thing. 🙂
I cant believ ypu put this up by tourself. It was hard enough for 2 of us. Kudos to you
Nice addition to the property.
Brilliant, you always make things look easy!!
brilliant, loved the fabricated chock to fix to structure, i use resin anchors but will try those metal sleeved ones as looked really simple with the wrench
Would you be concerned about the posts tethered to the patio slabs? Could strong winds pull them up? Love the results.
Another great job Stuart, great forward thinking with the conduit through the concrete 👏
I love the ending with rains 🌧️!
Data cable in the gravel border! - didn't think about that before - cheers
Video editing is top notch. Always enjoy your uploads and learn something. My favourite DIY channel. Keep up the good work.
awsome video, dont forget about the pointing
Very nice Stuart, now pour yourself a nice drink and enjoy the summer, not forgetting to make some more great videos of course !
I built a wooden one 4.8 x 2.4, about ten years ago, I still like it apart from when I need to repaint it all, which is now for the fourth time !
This channel just gets better and better 👍
That looks clean Very cool Stuart. Ive started to get more jobs where people want pergolas must be back in fashion.
Super tidy job. Looks great.
Stuart, you’re an absolute legend. Can’t say how much I enjoy your videos, always relevant, clever, informative. Keep smashing it mate 👏🏻
YES he’s back. Woke up last Sunday, made my coffee, loaded up RUclips and no video?? 😂😂😂
What a lovely addition to an already beautiful property Stuart. Fantastic vid and advice as always Stuart.
Your pergola looks great; nicely done!
Grand job Stu looks class matching the house. Also, well done for doing it on your own, it's tough and takes time going solo. 👌
Nice work! I like the way you also think ahead, ie. the tube for any future cabling. 👍🙂
A good lesson for us all.
Like your forward planning with respect to the conduit for any future cable connection
I love living vicariously through you. Love it!!
I was waiting for you to realise you'd marked the position on the house without taking it off the casters but you're obviously much cleverer than me!
Very good. I like the idea of the wiring conduit.
The god of DIY ❤ always thinking ahead to the next job, nice work 👏
Love the baton attention to detail 👍
It's a fantastic looking job there I'm thinking of changing my mind from timber pergola to aluminum one now timber in Ireland is so expensive and quality isn't in timber anymore so thanks great video

Really great video. Everything you do, you do so well. Very inspiring.
Great job, Stuart looks really lovely mate just a thing when entertaining guests😊
Great idea Stuart.Nice find. The only things that builders left me was rubble!(nice rock garden though).😀
A nice job done there matey.Well done and with working on your own as well.
My jaw dropped when I saw that soil - cheers to that!
Fantastic job Stuart! It looks so smart. 😊 👌
Wow! You are so gifted at DIY. Love watching you. I fancy one of these myself but 3x3M and it won’t be attached to any side wall. I assume 4 bolts in each leg will keep it sturdy.
Great job mate. Well done 👍😊
great video! I need to do the same in my garden but my current paving slabs are uneven as hell so Im going to build a patio first.
That's what you call a proper job. Those ladders were a bit wobbly though! I'm sure you you get a load of freebies from some ladder manufacturers. A ladder comparison video would be really useful for a lot of people.
Great watch…You deserve an Oscar for this vlog.
i used threaded bar through fence posts to stop wobble.covered by plastic tubing.
Very nice and I looked at that Very Same one in The Range. It looks like decent quality too.
Very imporessed with how you managed that on your own Stuart. Cheers, Ian.
I once was employed by a shop that sold these. We would repeated tell customers they must be secured down very well and that we would not replace any pergola that was damaged from wind. It looks the business 👍
Great video and tips, I might try this myself.
I saw this in the range and was considering the purchase too. Great video and things to consider with attaching to the house etc
I looked at the same one on the range on line?. And it says it’s not to be used as a permanent fixture🤷♂️
Watching the early part of the video I was thinking; Stuart lives in England. How come it always seems to be sunny there. Turns out by the end of the video I got my answer. 😂😂
It only rains on days ending in Y 😁
