In case you didn’t know already. If you plan to leave the flags up overnight, proper etiquette is to have a floodlight shining on them. 😊

yes! There are several “rules of etiquette” in regard to flying a flag that most people have forgotten about or just don’t know….. My biggest pet peeve is when people let a flag fly torn and ragged, then when someone explains they need to replace it…they take it down and toss it in the garbage! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😢😢😡😡

So my son and daughter inlaw came and saw onTuesday night. I wasn't doing well either. MIThey went home to find our 3 dogs, 2 Pomeranians, and the 12 year old bull dog Buckaroo. Buckaroo had a stroke and died within an hour of the them coming home. The Poms were very loving. I ended up in ICU with heart trouble that nights they went back to hospital. I wasn't told about Buck until Sat. I'm glad to see you putting a garden. Don't know if I will get one in . I hold your family dear to my heart . I love your family.❤

Pam here….all that weed fabric is so much work to install and upkeep. We put regular lawn in between out beds. We mow and trim with the trimmer. So much neater, and I can maintain my garden boxes barefoot with soft grass underfoot. But my boxes are 2 ft h 4ft wide and 8-20ft long. So much easier on the back to plant, harves and maintain.

Here in England we are garden fanatics. It is the single most popular hobby. Through many trials and experiments we have found certain ones are phenomenal.
One of the most powerful homemade weed killers is by mixing vinegar, salt, and washing up liquid. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which acts as a desiccant, drawing moisture out of plant leaves, while salt dehydrates the plant further and washing up liquid helps the solution adhere to the weeds. I use a high pressure sprayer. It works and is not harmful to the wildlife. Salt is not a slug friend just saying. It needs to be sprayed on dry leaves and never after rain

A woman came in and asked if she could have some for her horses as a floor. We had some of various thickness and the thicker ones were perfect for her animals. Some thinner ones were perfect for ground cover. If you have an open quarry mine near you, you may be able to get what you need for free.

I dont know how many more years I will be able to handle all the work on my acreage, but it sure brings back great memories of when I had your energy levels. Like Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. Love the raised beds and efforts to establish a border outside the fence. Saves on string trimming close to the wire fence!

So happy to see your flag pole go up. Here in Australia there h a s been some problems with proudly displaying our flag.
Great job on the garden. Kira lovingly placing flowers on Kenji's resting place is so sad. 🐾💕
Horses can be such babies some times, that big scary mating. My thoroughbred used to be scared of his shadow, which made for some interesting side stepping at times 💜💜💜

Excited to see Old Glory fly high. Now you need some lighting on it. The garden is beautiful and so much easier to control weeds.
I had that problem with our dog would not walk on new tile we got, she was so scared of it. It took a few weeks.

Don’t get rid of the grass in the orchard. Plant wildflowers and grasses indigenous to your area. It will bring in insects that will help pollinate your fruit trees. There have been numerous studies done here in Australia that show productivity is improved by allowing native grasses and plants to flourish under fruit trees and vines

When I saw the hole and the pole, my first thought was, I sure hope they’re putting up a flag. So blessed to see that you are. I have one in my front yard not that tall at all but every time I see the wind blowing it. It makes my heart happy.

I'm no gardener, but Living Traditions Homestead says to burn the edges instead of cutting to prevent fraying. They made a video on commercial grade weed fabric best practices after using it for several years.

We use this nice little solution that makes it easy to get the flagpole raised or lowered when needed by adding a tipping point where the pole meets the ground. It's done with two solid holders side by side locked into cement and just far enough between them to fit the flagpole. Then the pole is connected through and trough both sides close to the bottom, and at the top of the holders there's this holder band that holds the pole straight when raised. When this is done right, is so easy to get the flagpole up or down and even replaced if needed. And no holes in the ground is needed which means no dirt collector either and it also means that grass can grow all over around the flagpole so that it looks very very nice.
Years ago, my dad and me set that up, so that it would be as easy as it could be, but to get it done we had to bike through town on two bicycles holding each end of a 15 meter flagpole. The funny thing about it that flagpole used a trick to hold most of the flag hoist solution inside so that the wind wouldn't slam it into the flagpole and make noise. It was all done so that it looked like only one one line would go up and down holding the flag. And using the right pull line made it so that there were very little noise compared with how the old solution was.
For some reason, I haven't seen such solution only partly anywhere else, but with how things have changed since then there are a lot I don't know about such things. :D

When I was a kid I use to play teatherball a lot at school so my parents decided to put in a teatherball pole in out back yard. We waited a full week before using it. Our next door neighbor also decided to put in a teatherball pole for his kids. They started playing on it the next day. Our cement stayed perfect for all the time we had it. Theirs started cracking very shortly after the installation. The moral of this story is that you should let the cement cure fully before installing the flag pole and having the wind putting stress on the non fully cured cement. Just an FYI, but I’m probably too late.

I feel y’all’s pain on the weeds in the garden!! I painstakingly pulled all the invasive weeds one year, laid redwood mulch all over. My garden was gorgeous. Months later weeds took over all the mulch and now it’s barely there. Wish I had laid a liner down.
