    Great video, but you left too much in the u-shaped bend which will make it difficult for wastewater to flow and too much will stay in the bend. It should just be a few inches.
    As you mentioned, the purpose of that u-shaped bend is to keep sewer gas out of your house and also the little flying bugs that live in the sewer. This requires a small amount of water in the bend to fully block that bend, but too much water will impede proper draining.
    It does fit tight, trimmed properly it does work great.
    Had a drain on an old laundry tub rust through and the fittings were weird and none of the Home Depot parts would fit.
    Found Simple Drain on the shelf and it looked too easy and simple, and it was too easy and simple, but it worked.
    It wasn't the only repair kit I bought, I also bought the Snappy Trap which is more traditional, I got it in case the Simple Drain didn't work.
    Turns out, I needed a kit with a female connection to the waste pipe, which the Snappy Trap didn't have and I needed a tailpiece extension, which the Simple Drain doesn't have but the Snappy trap does.
    Will be keeping a close eye on it, but so far so good, through several wash loads it hasn't leaked.

    Simple Drain is great! I've had it installed for 18 months on 3 different sinks and never had any issues. I'd recommend it to anyone with a drainage problem in their sink, if you're buying Draino to unclog it just spend the few bucks more to get Simple Drain, it'll solve the problem once and for all.

      I'd much rather deal with a problem on Simple Drain install than on PVC. The problems are also less likely on Simple Drain. I've certainly seen PVC break and clog and it's hard to work with unless you have every fitting on hand. I can understand why people might be hesitant to move from an established system to something new, but I think if history were different and we all had simple drain for the past 50 years and then somebody came up with the idea of using PVC we would have a much greater reason to reject their product than we have with this system. Keep in mind, this isn't junk. This is extremely high quality made in the USA tubing that is from the same factories that make the highest quality scuba tubing and highest quality commercial laundry connections. As a matter of fact, these are very similar to those commercial laundry applications that take on abuse for decades without failure.

      @@danbedard290 Thanks for your opinion. Check out commercial laundries sometime. They use this design for waste water and have not had the issues you cite (actually, these are the least leak and clog prone designs due to the flexibility of the line vs hard lines that can't handle any movement). Beyond that, I agree that this could be done in the wrong way and be a terrible product. This has been tested and is code for commercial and residential applications -- something that isn't given out for trash! It's also had great uptake in the plumbing community -- again, something that isn't consistent with it being trash. Compression fittings were a new thing at one time too and people rejected them until they saw the benefits of them being well-made.

    You do know they make p-traps that are compression fittings and not glued. So you dont have to worry about those "angles" you can just swing the trap. And it probably takes just as long as your hose to hook up. Also the trap doesn't make an air gap, it's a seal made by water to keep your sewer gases out. I'm a plumber and an army veteran, literally have never seen this in the military or on real jobs. Please for the love of God, dont reccomend this to people. Especially when you have close to no idea what your actually talking about i.e exhaust bell, or exhaust pipe from sink. High quality rubber, cut with scissors.

    I work at Home Depot in the plumbing department. I am totally embarrassed to to be standing next to the same bay as this product, I cringe to think I have to sell this. In the video, look at the length of the trap itself. The weight of the water alone may pull the hose out of the trap adapter. To top it off, would never pass any inspection. To me this is a joke product.

      Huh, it's code certified and has been sold through and installed by professional plumbers for commercial and residential use for years. Thanks for your pro opinion from looking at it, not using it. The length decreases because you cut it to fit. It will not slip off because it clamps on.
      It really does pass commercial inspections! Heck, it's the same tube used in commercial laundries.

    • @aroundthehousediy5124
      @aroundthehousediy5124  3 года назад

      You are right... but if you have ever taken apart a traditional p-trap then you know they are not for the squeamish. It's a waste line, after all. Simple Drain can be cleaned more easily, so it should be better for you if you want to avoid gross things. If you REALLY want to avoid gross things, though, you pretty much can't get near any sort of waste line plumbing. I don't find it unbearable, but I know my wife won't ever touch one.
      Anyway, there is no such thing as a sterile drain environment, but simple drain does allow you a unique way to clean that you can't get elsewhere -- you can add a clip to the hose (intentionally blocking the flow) and then disinfect it (using bleach, for example). It's not necessary and the ridges likely won't matter in any way to a normal residential application, but if it makes you feel better, it is a neat option.
