    I have reviewed MANY videos on this workflow and I must say that this is the first time that I completely get everything! Sure, I had the gist of it after the first video ever seen, but I'm the type that needs several opinions and viewpoints before I start a project. Thank you for this simple, baseline video which covered any questions that I may have had. Bravo!!

    THANK YOU.... out of 6 other videos on same subject, this is the ONLY one who even mentions the tape that goes on the threads.... Isn't that kinda important? EXCELLENT VIDEO. EASY TO FOLLOW. DONE CORRECTLY. GOLD STAR.

    • @crookeddonald4761
      @crookeddonald4761 9 месяцев назад

      Thats because tape is not necessary, its just an added precaution. I've never had to use it in all the sinks I've put in. If you line your pipes up properly and the joints arent under stress from not being measured properly, you shouldnt need tape.

    • @PhilCrockett
      @PhilCrockett  6 месяцев назад

      Yes, I learned from a union plumber out of St. Louis Missouri. He uses both, tape and thread paste to make sure the union is secure.. There are a lot of people out there that will tell you it's not necessary, and that is almost true. However, when it comes to vibrations, such as a garbage disposal in the kitchen sink, the union can become loose. To fix this, use tape and or pipe dope.

    Great installation instruction.
    My opinion is not use teflon tape, that is what the slip joint nut and beveled washer are for - provide leak tight assembly. Teflon tape may impede the proper tightening if too much tape is applied.
    Also just hand tighten, that is what the wings on the nut are for. Using pliers on plastic may tend to over tighten and break it.

    • @PhilCrockett
      @PhilCrockett  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for the positive criticism, Ybanag!

    • @jmhagle
      @jmhagle 4 года назад +3

      Yeah, great video, but the threads don't seal anything. They only provide the compression needed for the angled gaskets to make a water tight seal..

    • @notafanboy250
      @notafanboy250 4 года назад +1

      Yep. Came in to say the same thing. The teflon tape doesn't help at all. If the gasket didn't do the job, then the threads won't either. In this coupling, once water gets past the gasket, nothing is holding it back.

I would go the extra mile and fill the sink with cold water first, drain it, then fill with hot water, drain it, and then back to cold water. Thermal expansion and contraction can cause new pipes to leak if not fitted properly.

    Very nice refresher, I’m a homeowner that does this every once in a great while, got two do do now. I keep a chop saw at the ready to trim a little at a time until it dry fits just like this guy did. I hate doing plumbing!

      yes... i'm not a huge fan of plumbing. I did a lot of it when I was younger. I tend to over kill when I do something. (like how I used teflon tape on the threads).... but I never have issues when I do it myself.
