Excellent review!! I can’t wait for the follow up videos. People have forgotten that Omega was dominant early on. They won numerous accuracy competitions and win the race for the watch to the moon. Also, as a child and a teenager in the 1970’s. Rolex was not a big deal. Yes, the datejust and day-date were prominent among older businessmen when those watches were given and bought as retirement pieces. It was not necessarily a piece to signify wealth. Secondly, most of my colleagues (physicians older than 50 years of age) have bought watches such as Richard Mille, Patek, and A. Lange and Sohn if they want a watch to suggest success and wealth. They have stayed away from Rolex because everyone has one. As such, it is not exclusive by definition. The steel Rolex models are so popular because that is the upper level that most people can afford. By definition, that is not exclusive. I don’t see those same people buying gold watches or very expensive steel models from other brands. Lastly, if you have to worry about the resale price; then maybe, you cannot really afford the watch. Watches are to be worn and used. If the watch is worn, then the resale suffers. I have seen a Nautilus worn at work by an ENT physician. I asked him why he wore his watch to work. His reply was “why not, I bought this watch to enjoy it “. He states that he was not concerned by the resale price. He makes enough money not to be concerned about resale.
Sums it up! Luxury is when you don't care about the retention or resale. It's all about luxury consumption, like going to a Fancy restaurant...you don't get any value retention after it comes out the back end tomorrow 😁. Likewise, it's true the rolex brand has been taken over by posers who think it's high end and even poke fun at ppl who intentional don't want a rolex. 😁. The real expensive watches start at Richard mille am not saying I like them but their barrier to entry is quite high and there's no getting around that. But of course there are different levels of posers as well !😜 The real measure is in the character of the individual...not the watch. Never judge a person by the watch he wears or the car he drives. 🙂
Great video. I have a Rolex and am on a waiting list for another. I'm fed up playing the AD game and waiting months even years with no update on availability or wether I can get another one. I went into an Omega dealer recently and was treated exceptionally. I know where my money will go next, especially with the release of the green Seamaster
Great Video! Love Omega! Actually I love 3 specific Models: From the 1940s: 2292 HS/8 cal. 30T2CS From the 1960s: Speedmaster Professional From the 1970s: Speedmaster 125th
Personally I think Rolex is a great brand , but I think they lost their way mostly. Rolex are used to be a brand where it wasn’t quite luxury but it was high-end and could be used in abused in an inch of his life. That’s why Ian Fleming originally chosen for his version of James Bond. Omega is currently how Rolex used to be. Really nice Elgin watches, they were reasonably expensive buy not unattainable, and could be used in abused without having to worry. Not to mention omega also has ways for anyone to afford their time pieces either by using the Affirm payment plans, or going with the moon swatch. I’m pretty sure Rolex intentionally keeps the demand high by making a watch is as unattainable as possible. I would not mind only a Rolex, but I’m not paying $9000 at bare minimum for a watch when I can get one that is actually better than the Rolex submariner for half the cost
I am new to your RUclips channel and have found some helpful information. Thank you. I know you did an earlier video on top 10 watch brands to purchase. I also understand that a watch should have utility and be worn not stored in a safe. I finally had some disposable income to purchase a luxury brand watch. I have always wanted a Rolex Submariner. I understand that in this current market and into the foreseeable future that I am unlikely to get one through an AD. We only have on in Anchorage, Alaska and I am not a regular customer. I am unwilling to pay several times the value of the watch in the grey market. I am looking at a Grand Seiko SBGH257. I am not buying this as an investment. I just like the look of the watch. My research shows the brand is innovative and upcoming and makes a solid product. What are your thoughts? I am torn between waiting for market forces to change and get the watch I want or settle for the watch I can buy. I like Omega but not the He gas valve sticking out the side of the Seamaster. Again, I am glad I found your channel and will be watching in the future. Cheers.
I put Grand Seiko in my top ten, they give fantastic bang for your buck. Have a look at Tudor too. They make a solid watch at a fantastic price and it’s owned by Rolex. Many thanks and please keep watching. All the best.
Omega does everything better than Rolex, save for the ability to make people lust after their watches. I think in time people will get tired of wanting something they can't have without overpaying for a second hand example and move on. The Rolex bubble will deflate rather than burst.
Buy What We Like, Don't be follower Never buy above AD Price if we love watch Is norm if we can't get, let it be!, just keep trying Never let go "Our Respect", remember is just a watch
@@Bassingtons forget it no need to argue with him, these kinds of rolex fanboys will never see the light of reasoning. Moonswatch doesn't have a Metas 3861 in it. How can it be the same duck? Thank you and I have been saying throughout my VLOGS that a watch is designed to be worn and should not used as an investment.

@@Bassingtons it appears I may have spoken too soon. People aren't lining up down the block for the new Swatch, they're there for a baby Omega.
